What is this?

Return to Rapture, Chapter 2 is a set of custom maps made with the Source 2 engine for Virtual Reality. The editor comes with Half-Life: Alyx.
It boasts a 15 hour playtime, custom enemies and weapons. There are even plasmids, and Big Daddy fights remade from the Bioshock series.
The maps are completely new, but use a lot of resources from the games and the HD remake.

Campaign was made by the Patient8games team.

Who are you?

I'm Willhart from Finland. I've been playing HL Alyx mods semiregularly ever since people started making them.
I've made over 400 videos so far, and I especially try to focus on the look of the videos, and showcasing the maps for people without VR.
I don't find my commentary too special, though I feel like it still helps a lot with showcasing the maps. I have a Finnish accent.

Anything else of note?

There are horror sections in this game with huge spiders, and other unsettling stuff and violent content that comes with Bioshock.
Videos were recorded on Valve Index headset on ultra settings. There are still some bugs in the game, though the team is working on fixing them. The game released on 14.3.2022.

Part 4 is now up. I'm starting a new area in Fort Frolic with a very familiar feeling puzzle.
As far as I know, I'm only about one third into the game, and there may be some bonus maps/post game content at the end too.

There were plenty of errors and bugs encountered on this one. You can see floating debug numbers on the background. I saw one z-fighting flickering painting, two erratically moving plants in the water, floating lights, and broken cameras.
Even the boss at the end of the video seemed to behave odd, floating above the ground sometimes, and firing more drills than I thought possible.
At least nothing game-breaking has appeared yet, and I've not encountered any crashes that other people have reported.

I'm still feeling positive about the game too. Everything almost feels like a movie sometimes, and there are plenty of events and encounters to keep me occupied.

I am planning on doing a full no-commentary run of this mod later, after I've beaten everything once. Hopefully most of the bugs will be fixed by then. I hear the developers are still working on the game a lot, improving the performance and so on.

Both parts 5 and 6 are now up. Went to both a theater and a zoo during them.
Part 5 had some cool conversation between different factions, and we got to help out our friend on part 6.

I started a new game on part 6, since it is possible to do that on any of the maps. This gave me the stuff I had missed previously, and hopefully ensured I was playing with all the updates.

There were also once again some problems. Mostly the boss got stuck at the end of part 6, but that didn't end up blocking my progress, as all big daddy fights are kinda optional (so far).
Also my recording times have been pretty late to avoid interference, and that has made my voice sound much more tired.

Got my hopes up for a possible roller coaster ride near the end, but that didn't end up happening at least yet. There was also a lot of foreshadowing for a possible boss fight later.

Parts 7 and 8 are now up. I've also recorded part 9 (will be up tomorrow), which went pretty much perfectly-

On part 7, I get to visit a big non-linear area, with lot of casinos, entertainment, and even a church.
OBS sadly didn't record the game audio, so I had to add some music on post, so it's not just me talking.

And on part 8 I visit two shorter maps. On first one I find my own picture on the wall, and the second one had a huge optional area with lot of puzzles in the way.
I like how the puzzles were made optional in case they were too hard for people.

The game continues to be really beautiful, and now I feel like the challenge is slowly ramping up too.
Things really click, now that I know how to use all the different game systems.

Parts 9, 10, and 11 are now up.

On these parts we have a lot of combat. The combine really try to take us out this time, and there is even some fighting between them and the splicers.
The music in this part was especially good, and there were some quiet moments after it too. Part 9 may by my favorite so far (the orphanage).
Part 10 is special, in that it can be skipped almost entirely if people don't want to play the horror section in that area. Reward for clearing it is cool though.
We also keep encountering doors that require codes, but at least yet it has not been too tiring. The game is helpful telling us what the code was in case we forget.

It's a little hard to get good screenshots, since the game tends to be pretty dark.

Edit: Oh also HL Alyx is 2 years old now. Valve didn't do anything special for it, but I took a bit of time to make a small anniversary video.

Parts 12, 13 and 14 are up.

I've now beaten the game, though there will still be 3 videos till I get to the end. The last recording session was over two hours.
I already know the final 3 parts will be full of action, and there is just a small reward thing at the very end after the credits.

The maps still feel pretty large and full of fun details. I also managed to find an Easter egg on part 12.
You also see it near the start of part 13, since I was able to carry it through the map transition.

The game was also again updated, and it threw me off a little, how much more bullets and money the enemies drop now.
Not a bad change though and extra helpful on harder difficulties too.

Final 3 parts are now up. Thanks to the series I noticed that #shorts can do better on Youtube than regular videos sometimes. Here are couple of highlights from the series. (mostly from the times I got scared or surprised)

Jumpscare
Rude Fish
Sneaked up On
Thief

This was a lot of fun to play, though not without issues. The performance dipped on one map in particular. There were a lot of "find the door code" puzzles, and we only got to fight humanoid enemies.
On the other hand I was able to get into a pretty good flow, fighting the enemies the game did throw at me. I also really enjoyed the ending.
