Starcraft cultivates a few good outdoor skills. Making use of fluctuating resources over short and long time-frames. A scrappy, never-give-up mentality. First person shooters are maybe less relevant, hand-eye coordination is less key outside. Well except for ball sports, some of those are outdoors. Don't say hunting, aiming a mouse does not help you aim a weapon. Well, maybe the Marines' Doom mod? RPGs have some good ones. Inventory management. Planning phase and going out phase. And of course, gear. Finding gear, making gear, lusting after gear, thinking about that perfectly tailored gear set. MMOs add relevant group dynamics. Finding people with the right mix of skills for the quest, as well as making do with what your party has. Going out with trusted partners versus with pubbies. Judging others by their gear. You can NOT run Goat Ridge with us until you upgrade those abysmal leggings. And for petes sake get a 14 slot bag, they're dirt cheap at the second hand store.

You ever play Firewatch? It's a first person adventure game where you play as a park ranger in Wyoming in the 80s. It's basically hiking simulator. It's good, I like it.
