Piloting the ships is so much fun. It reminds me a little bit of Dirt Rally, slinging your antigrav NASCAR through impossible turns. Racing games aren't really my thing but BallisticNG is special. There are simple weapons and poo poo too but all I care about is throwing my rocketized rear end off a ramp on the moon again. The handling is outright sensual. Not only can you drift via airbrake through curves, the craft can pitch up and down slightly by nudging the left stick forward or back. Maximum speed can only be achieved while the body of the craft is level with the track, not pitched too far up or down. When you go up a hill, it is imperative to lift the nose so as not to bash the floor, and on the way back down to pitch forward and trace the track along its incline, never leaning too far one way or the other. This thread should be stickied somewhere everytime there is a Steam sale. I know the game is cheap enough anyway, but especially on sale, this is such an easy recommendation. IMO Wipeout 2097 and Wipeout 3 hit a very specific tone, style and mastery of this genre that no other anti-grav racer ever has - including the other Wipeout games. This is a real love letter to that era of Wipeout, and comes by far the closest to the alternate reality where we get a full throttle Wipeout 4 instead of Fusion. I'd say this is a high recommendation to anybody who likes racers, arcade style games or just videogame-rear end videogames, but if you have any kindling of nostalgia for PS1 Wiepout then this is downright essential.

Fantastic game! It's one of those games that is a clear labour of love and, while nostalgia helps, it's absolutely not necessary to enjoy a game made with passion. I never played Wipeout and you should play this yesterday.
