Time for a little robot chauvinism!

Mulholland Dr. is one of my favorite dozen or so films. I like/love all his other films. I remember not being a fan of the soundtrack on Lost Highway but that'd be the only gripe.

I'm much more averse to jumping into a longer series even when I think I'll enjoy it (especially binge-watching).

Yeah, you're gonna like it. Just dive in and watch the pilot -- it's a pretty much a standalone film in itself -- and go from there.

About 200 people votes from Jeanne Dielman, so around 12.5 percent. Vertigo is somewhere around 190 votes but I think I screwed up counting. 95th place has 31 votes - so again, you need to be around 2 percent to enter the top 100.

I counted 215 critic votes for Jeanne Dielman and 208 critic votes for Vertigo. So that was very close. Citizen Kane had 164 so that was a bigger drop-off. Mulholland Dr. at #8 had 143 votes.

I forget which entries in the top 100 were the most contentious but now the pillorying can begin. :smugmrgw:

Looks to be similar ratios for the director's list as well (11 percent for 2001, 2 percent for the movies tied for 93rd.) 7 percent for the 9th place.

The cutoff for the critics 250 list was 12 mentions. (.7 percent)

If I knew how to scrape data it would be interesting to see which people made lists of films only from the 20th century, or only include films made before their 10th/20th/30th birthday, or if critics were more likely to include films from their home country, or which film got the most critic votes without getting a director vote and vice versa, etc.

As far as I can tell, the highest ranked critic film that didn't get any director votes was Get Out.

edit: lol

I definitely think if there's a positive to be taken away from the discussion around this list's release, it's that people see some of the stingy bitches overreacting and veer away from that mentality/more towards realizing recent films can be/are great and shouldn't be immediately ignored in discussions of great films. A fair amount of stuff from the last 3-5 years are among my fav films ever. And I think that's okay! And I think it's okay if there are more people who can say the same thing!

For the record, none of them are this :rubby:

The Automat?! That was an extremely mediocre doc. Does she know the director personally or something?

Probably interpreted the assignment as: "Last 10 movies you watched"

Yeah, I may be not understanding these lists, but, they can vote for TV shows in the best films of all time poll?

Odd choice, but I'll allow it

It seems they give a pass to Twin Peaks because of Lynch but I can't think of any other series that film critics give the same respect except maybe The Wire.

I don't count miniseries in the equation.

That said, I assume some made the top 10 of at least one person

If you try to click on a link on the BFI site to see who voted for Twin Peaks: The Return you'll find there's no link. :tinfoil:

This is great and very detailed. It has all ~21,000 films voted on. Tons of info all in a 1MB Excel file.
