One of the best matches of Sinclair era ROH. Briscoe had the World Title for 9 Months and put it up against Lethal and his TV title.

I only saw the Briscoes wrestle three times, the three FTR matches. But even the first one was enough to rocket them to the top of my tag team ratings. They just had this brutal and explosive energy to everything they did.

I vaguely remember that on the same weekend as Supercard of Honor there was some other show, and I watched the RoH show first. After the FTR - Briscoes match everything else seemed slow and lame and clunky and fake, and as amazing as FTR are, a large portion of that credit goes to the Briscoes.

loving hell what a loss.

I saw the briscoes only once in Edinburgh. I always like Jay's run as champ and the ridiculous redneck belt he had at one point. Without a doubt the greatest tag team, and did loads to keep tag team wrestling a thing in doldrums of the last 20 years. Jay could wrestle anyone and make it an entertaining match. Sad news

Was the dog collar match with FTR Jay's last match ever? Tiniest of consolations I know but if it is at least he got to go out on an absolute banger

This sucks so loving much. I've never gotten to see them live, but I was huge into ROH in the mid-2000s, and they were always up for the kind of banger that was worth skipping ahead for. One thing that immediately comes to mind is the insane Age of the Fall promo where they had strung up a bleeding Jay by his ankles over the ring, with Jimmy Jacobs cutting a promo while Jay's blood rained down on him.

Almost, they had one more match in House of Glory after that.

I keep thinking of more & more amazing Briscoes moments. Of that feeling I'd get when Gimme Back My Bullets kicked in, knowing that you're going to get guys who never take a match off.

This was one someone (maybe Bix) posted on Twitter last night, from 2007 NOAH for the GHC Junior Tag belts against Kotaro Suzuki & Ricky Marvin

And oh god, the match they had a year later with Marufuji & Sugiura for the GHC Tag Titles. And the Junior Tag League match with Ibushi & Nakajima! So much is just pouring back to me. The only shame is we didn't get more of Dem Boys in Japan. But they had a farm to run.

This is so good because in 3 minutes, you get their WHOLE DEAL, top to bottom. An amazing loss.

I remember the first time I watched ROH, around the time Morishima won the title. The contrast of what you expected from The Briscoes vs. what you actually GOT is one of the main things that sold me on the promotion, and was my sole solace when week-to-week WWE was a drag.

By design sometimes, not a lot of guys in ROH had that air around them of "I have to watch see what THIS guy is gonna do." That instant catch that people like Orange Cassidy, or Dalton Castle have, where you get their whole deal before they get in the ring, and become excited about what they're going to do, but The Briscoes had that, but unlike the sillier stuff that usually has that going for it, you knew these guys were going to gently caress poo poo up.

Man, seeing them wrestle as gangly adolescents knowing the men they'd become later was wild. I didn't really start picking up on them until 2006-ish when I got a bunch of DVDs for the ROH/CZW feud.

You'll hit your head and say: 'Boy, how stupid could I have been. A moron could've figured this out. I must be a real dimwit. A pathetic nimnal. A wretched idiotic excuse for a human being for not having figured these simple puzzles out in the first place...As usual, you've been a real pantload!
Ladder War with Steenerico is what I'll always remember when I think of the Briscoes. Jay was very underrated as a champ as well. All those fun promos of him and Mark just hanging out on the farm were great as well.

Really a shame they didn't have more of an impact in the bigger companies. God bless TK for trying though.

If anyone's uploading stuff I'd love to rewatch Cole vs Jay from Final Battle 2014 and The Briscoes vs Young Bucks from Best in the World 2018.

Looking over his matches on Cage Match, there were so many great matches he and Jay had as a team that were way better than anyone else was having in the U.S. that were really overlooked by Dave in the star rating department. It's kind of ridiculous to think that the Briscoes were one of the best teams in the last 20 years and were just now getting 5 stars.

I was really unhappy when Jay made some very bigoted comments back in like 2013 or 2014 and I had kind of written the Briscoes off forever. I was really happy when I heard that he had come around and realized that alot of those things he said were bad and hurtful. The Briscoes had a hell of a 2022 and this whole thing is so sad.

I was also very relieved to hear that Jay had grown up since then, and hearing people talk about him now confirms that it wasn't an empty gesture on his part.

It really does seem unfair that so many people who have done and said far worse things without any remorse and come back with pathetic apologies have been given chance after chance to succeed, but the Briscoes came out with what felt like a heartfelt apology and couldn't get the same shake. It would have been pretty cool seeing them tearing poo poo up on AEW TV the past few years.

Might try out an Honor Club subscription to go through some old Briscoes stuff this weekend.

Briscoes vs War Machine from ROH TV in 2015. I love this match, it escalates into an absolute mess. Each team trying to prove that they're tougher than the other. Hanson does some Hanson things and Jay and Mark do Jay and Mark things.

Another one I'd strongly recommend people seek out is The Briscoe Brothers and Papa Briscoe vs. The Kings of Wrestling and Shane Hagedorn, Final Battle 2010. Not an insane spotfest or bloodbath, but highly entertaining, and as close to sports entertainment as you're going to get from ROH, especially at the time, but in a good way. As far as I know it's the first time they actively involved Papa Briscoe to this degree, and not only does he hit pretty much everything well, including a loving Doomsday Device, seeing him wrestle also makes you understand the Briscoe brothers way better.
