YOMI HUSTLE is a turn-based fighting game. Somehow this works and it is awesome.

Each 1v1 match takes place over a series of turns in which the players decide from a variety of options. There are a variety of mechanics that make each match unique and allow players to develop a personal style. Each turn will have you considering from options including movement skills, basic and special attacks, building level and using super attacks, defensive options, cancels and free attacks. There is a burst meter which you have to think about saving for combo breaking or cancel options to take the upper hand out of neutral, and a DI Input to help you make distance from combo attacks.

You can also HUSTLE!

During the turn there is a projection which predicts what will happen when you select an option. When each player locks in a move, the game will advance a number of frames until one player or another would have an input again. Hopefully you haven't put yourself in a position where the opponent has a large frame advantage!

The end result is not only a fun take on fighting games but a really cool payoff as the whole match is replayed in real time. You get the thrill of employing all the depth of your fighting game strategy without any need for actual reflexes. As of now there are 4 characters, with at least several more on the way. There is also a style editor where you can pick different color schemes and aura effects. Did I also mention workshop support with lots of mods and custom characters, because that is a feature too. The whole thing works pretty seamlessly for easy online matches, just join a lobby or start one and challenge someone! If you both have the same mods installed, then you can choose from custom options.

If you are deciding which character to pick, these are your options:

Ninja has some of the best movement options, and is very quick. If you catch the opponent off guard, you'll be able to string together a long series of quick melee strikes and juggles. His shuriken has just been updated with new aim options making for some great zoning ability.

Cowboy is a hard hitting swordfighter with lots of tricks. He can deal some vicious damage with even low combos, and has a handful of teleport options for positioning. You can also shoot people with a gun.

Wizard is a HUGE JERK. People pick this guy to stomp new players because he has a variety of homing projectile options that can be annoying to play around. He's more balanced at higher skill levels however, because projectiles can be easily blocked once you figure things out.

Robot is the heavy character, with more limited movement options. Good robot players will make use of the flight and armor mechanics and find the perfect opportunity to land big, highly damage attacks.

You can pick up Your Only Move is HUSTLE on steam for ONLY FIVE DOLLARS :vince:

This is really quite fun, even though the frustration potential is fairly large. The playbacks in the end make it all worth it.

That said, gently caress Wizards

Modded characters are great, but this one is especially silly with how slippery they are lmao.
