Speaking of Matt Berry I stumbled upon this from the LC era

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qyd5rSB1jiY

"I'd love to have you come back and just... stay"

Also, revisiting a critique that I shared earlier regarding variety and highlighting vocalists, I watched an interview with Josh yesterday (Villains era) where he talked about Michael Shuman not only having a great growl/screaming voice, but also revealed he can sing really well too and hit higher notes than Josh and maybe he doesn't want to sing or Josh wants more focused vocals but I'd love to hear the guy on a couple of tracks on a future album, perhaps one screamer and one singing?

Revealed that Feet Don't Fail Me initially sort-of started during the album they made with Iggy Pop (the name apparently comes from something Iggy said once and a basic riff for an undeveloped song iirc) and revisiting it I've come around on the song a lot more in the context of it following on directly from the end of LC (I listen to QOTSA in one long chronological playlist) which after ending on the note that it does, Feet Don't Fail Me feels particularly appropriate in both a lyrical and outside-the-music context. That long intro and the stripped-back production sounding like everything is barely held together just... works?

Have you heard his band GLU?

QOTSA is a band with many different tracks for different tastes, but I am always in the mood for Feet Don't Fail Me.

Also IMO Mini Mansions is criminally underrated, lots of great Mikey crooning on their three albums

I really like Mini Mansions a lot, great catchy pop tunes, for lack of a better description. Their music videos are really clever too. Definitely underrated like you said.

I hoped at the time that this one would cross over to a bigger audience due to Alison’s presence but it didn’t happen.

Took the chance to listen through the Queens albums again when I saw this thread, and nope not a single thing after the Kyuss split EP and the first 3 tracks of the debut album clicks with me in any way :smith:

Following on from a prior post, The Kills are back :D They released two new songs from what is presumably a new album and I really like them. New direction for the band (I think Jamie might have hit a phase of being pissed off with his finger troubles) but good and still very much has their DNA. Worth checking out imo.

This was nothing at all like what I expected. This and the other video have left me curious to check out more of his stuff but holy poo poo when I listen to that song all I can hear is Tim Armstrong (Rancid) which is a bit awkward.

Primarily came to share this however which is a great interview with Josh covering the entire emotional spectrum and with some hilarious moments (a great story about Mark Lanegan when they'd been smoking and triggered the fire alarms at the XFM building) thrown in as well along with just generally being one of those rare interviews with a musician that doesn't suck poo poo because they are actually friends and mostly just chat about life:

They crushed it in Detroit tonight. I am heartbroken that Viagra Boys weren't there though. The two opener bands were pretty terrible. I guess they have different openers on different dates.

Qotsa was amazing though. I had a blast and they sounded great.

I'm going tonight and I'm pumped. I've seen them the last 2 (non festival) times they were in Philly, can't wait.

Edit: at the show. This is loving amazing.

The concert poster is cool as poo poo too.

There are few heroes on the world so when they present themselves, we need to give them notice.

This one in particular has chosen to focus on Queens of the Stone Age and their channel is: https://www.youtube.com/@HurdyG/videos

Niiiice!

Sorry for posting a little late, but the San Francisco show was a total blast. It was already a hot day (90-something heatwave around the Bay Area), Fleet Week is going on, and then throw in the concert. In spite of the traffic and the heat, the vibe was incredibly cool and happy. We spent all Saturday recovering. In short: worth it.

New Revolver interview talks about the new album and the various stuff going on in Josh's life, including a previously unrevealed bout of cancer. Apparently it was able to be surgically removed, but he doesn't want to get into details.

I'm circling around to this post because I'm late to the new QotSA album, and just hearing Emotional Sickness and Carnivoyeur in isolation immediately made me stop and think that Homme was going to David Bowie Blackstar us. It makes sense that this album was written around a cancer diagnosis and him coming to terms with that. Especially with the Carnivoyeur music video and the iconography around that.

RE: Him being kind of a piece of poo poo - Homme also did a podcast with Neal Brennan's The Blocks talking about some of his history with drugs and mental health and it genuinely seems like he's on the up and up, is off of Meth (holy poo poo) and is in a better place in his life now.

It's a piece of JUNK!
Yeah every new interview with Homme makes me feel better about him and his life trajectory. I very much hope not to be proven wrong, but it seems like maybe he's finally getting his crap together. The abuse allegations didn't seem to hold water in court, not that it erases his history of disorderly conduct entirely. Hoping for the best for him.

Also going to take this opportunity to say I really think the album holds up. I think it might be my 3rd or 4th favorite. It's only gotten better in my opinion.
