NH is fine for the most part there's just a large vocal contingent of people who want you to choose the latter part of the state motto "Live Free or Die"... Let's not forget NH is where Funspot, the "largest arcade in the world" is so that earns it a few points.

I went to Fun Spot a few weeks ago and almost all of the classic arcade machines had major problems. A lot of them are straight up unplayable

dinahmoe posted:My maternal grandmother and grandfather, my godparents, and my mom and dad all met at Hampton Beach. I lived there for two years and met an absolute disaster boyfriend. I think I broke the curse. One cool thing is that my mom and dad both worked in and around the casino ballroom. My mom met Ray Charles and Diana Ross, and they both got to hang around on Louis Armstrong’s tour bus. Hampton, Portsmouth, and North Conway are the only reasonable places in New Hampshire. That Casino connection is really cool. I'm glad that place is still holding up. I had Central Mass relatives who summered at Salisbury Beach while it was falling apart in the 80s and early 90s and the older aunts talked about Hampton as if were an unredeemable hotbed of sin, which I'm sure it was then compared to Salisbury. When they went to Maine with us we'd stay at York Beach because Old Orchard was a little too wild.

A (good) decision was definitely made to try and bring Hampton Beach into the 21st century while Salisbury is, I’m assuming, now just a hollowed out Joe’s Playland and Christy’s pizza. Took a day trip to Portland once in like ‘16 and the line for some famous breakfast place was approaching 90min, and then we wandered around down some hill and it was hot as poo poo and decided to leave and never return. Guess you have to live there or something. Portsmouth seemed much better. I have a friend who lives in Newburyport I’ll have to scout that out to complete the seacoast trifecta.

There's a casino in Oxford and Bangor, if you are interested. I don't think the Oxford one offers poker.
