Another beautiful film (in color!) by Yasujirō Ozu about a widower father marrying off his daughter. It's a little bit like Late Spring, but enough details are different. There's a younger son still at home, and it's not solely cultural tradition that's setting the wheels in motion for this marriage. The cause is a direct example from an old acquaintance of the father that did not marry his daughter off and regrets it. There was no scene where the daughter spills her heart just before the marriage about not understanding why she needs to marry at all since her current life was perfect. You get the feeling that Japanese culture has moved on from where it was during Late Spring (~15 years prior), with a lot of commercialism and western influences. The focus, ultimately, is more on the Father this time. The ending is the same; still as powerful. Ultimately, it was enjoyable .
