my room is barren of any life and i think it would be cool having some plants. i went to home depot today to look. They couldn't tell me much about plants, nor could they tell me the location of some paint for another project (the guy asked me about kitchens for some reason) here's my three concerns: 1) while my room is brightly lit during the day, there's no direct sunlight that enters it. 2) i'm lazy. i think I know how to water things, but it would be cool if I didn't have to re-pot things. 3) im an idiot I saw they had a big rubber tree plant that would perfectly fit in the corner of my room, but SEO-enshittified search results couldn't tell me one way or another how easy those were to care for. Then they had some air plants, but those seem to small and im not even sure what air plants are. then they had snake plants which are apparently idiot proof but the tag (saying full sunlight) and the internet were at odds. and yes, i realize its dumb to ask about keeping plants inside when their whole way of existing is outside under the sun, but I feel like I've seen a plant in an office before. help would be needed. best wishes, buglord

It's kind of nice and they're hard to kill. Beyond that, succulents are your friend, as they thrive on neglect. We went on a two month trip and both were fine untended.

Get a haworthia, they are pretty good with neglect. Don't water too much, and if the light is bright enough you'll have a happyy plant

Get a jade plant op. They are super low maintenance and don't need that much sun, also they look cool and will become big and twisty over decades.

Dear buglord, You can go to Walmart and get an angel plant for like $3. They do pretty well indoors and in low level/indirect sunlight and you just need to water them whenever. They're also non-toxic if you have pets or ever get a pet. Mucho gusto, ohnobugs

Philodendron plants, OP. Even if you purposely try to kill them (please don’t  ), they just refuse to die. My mom has two hanging in the kitchen that are about 50 years old as she got them before moving into her current home in 1974. Those plants have seen everything from Nixon resigning to Tupac’s murder being solved.Also, they grow really long if you take care of them. A coworker had one that she pinned around her cubicle. That single stem had to have been 10 to 15 feet long. They need little sunlight and only occasional watering; the perfect cheap lazy plant dad plant.

Goons would be classic over waterers way more than someone who would never water a plant, so I'd steer clear of anything like a succulent because you will probably kill it with too much attention. Get some succulents. They require almost zero maintenance, survive in any light and look really good(and much more interesting than cacti). A jade plant I had in university survived ~3 months without watering and still managed to grow. They are nature's cockroaches.

Also OP, you should always have fresh cut flowers in your house. They are kind of like plants but you can't screw them up because they are going to die anyways. I generally try and have no less than three arrangements in the house, I mix it up in the hallway and living room but it is a requirement to have white hydrangeas in the kitchen. Not green, not pink-ish white, they must be white.

The temp dropped below freezing several nights in a row and the plant survived

what part of the country are you in? i live in southern california and i keep a bunch of succulents in pots outside, they are native to the area and basically take care of themselves. i give them a little extra water when things are extra hot or dry, otherwise they pretty much just do their own thing, and they seem healthy. most of them ive had for about five years. they were all super cheap little guys i got at a supermarket, some of them have grown quite a lot however that really only applies if you are in the southwest, in other areas they might be trouble.

Spider plant like others have said. Jade plant like others have said (water sparingly, they are drought resistant). Coleus is a great plant (often outdoor use) that is super easy to propagate. There are multiple kinds and they're all great for indirect light indoors. Laceleaf is a great choice. Any type of dracaena is ideal as well. Dracaena will burn in direct sunlight so I have to keep mine away from the windows. Friendship plant is another great choice, and another one that is easy to propagate. I bet you could do a Devil's Vine as well. Avoid trying to grow herbs indoors, you will fail without direct sunlight but like 80% of my plants would be fine.

Does anyone have any advice for string of pearls? I got one that was near death, repotted into living soil, did a compost tea to resurrect it, now I think it’s getting overwatered or nutrient burn as the pearls are dying progressively from root to tip.

Seconding a spider plant. They’re super hardy and will continually send out new plants. I had one in grad school and left it out on the balcony without watering it for two months in summer and it popped right back to life when I brought it inside and watered it. Still going strong 15 years later.

I've read that Lemon Meyer Trees are quite simple to keep alive indoors, in the UK if that matters. Is that true? Seems like quite a nice plant to have.
