RCAF 418 Squadron , Mosquitos Looks like Jerry is at it again. Word has it that a wave of JU-88's and assorted escorts are forming up and look to be heading our way across the Channel soon. Well, Hairless Joe is hungry and we better not keep his cannons waiting. Take-off at a scramble, no bombs, no extra fuel tanks, anti-bomber gun ammo loadout Mag 205 for 30nm, approximately 11 minutes, climb profile 150 knots to 26000'. Enter Orbit, and wait for visual or calls from friendly flights re: bomber wave We're going to focus on the Ju-88's, let's leave the escorts to our fighters

Bagged 2.5x Ju-88s on the first sortie (shared one with Alchenar), bagged 1.5x on the second (shared with Vaha or Zeph, depending). RTB'd alive both times, though with heavy combat damage. First Sortie combat damage was obvious but totally manageable, second time around I was in a much more perilous state, but still landed wheels on ground at the correct airfield and alive. Big thanks to Breaky for helping me with nav as I was arguing with my engine a bit on the first sortie. On these short missions I can probably abuse the engine a bit more to get into the fight sooner without too much worry that I'll break it. Safe back on deck after the sortie. Good thing I was bouncing and ducking as I engaged the enemy; that's an ominously placed bullet hole in the canopy. E: while the Jug can fairly easily get cut up enough to need to disengage, its durability really shows in that you can just ease off the boost and cruise back home, and some of the flight damage that ruins your combat viability still leaves you perfectly capable of landing on your wheels. Like a car with a very good limp mode. mlmp08 fucked around with this message at 01:11 on Feb 11, 2024 |

This mission is going to be played from both perspectives. The first hour we do as Allied escorts for the formation. After that's done, we reset the mission and do it from German perspective, intercepting the formation. Vahakyla posted:NEXT TASK:

Mission this sunday, at 2000 UTC. OPERATION BOATYARD At 2000 UTC: Allied turn, airstart at Turn Point Charlie, flying towards the IP. After the bombers have dropped their bombs and turned towards home, form up, confirm skies are clear, and mission will end in the air. -------------------------- SECOND GO: Players are German fighter pilots, airspawning west of Beauvais. Having formed up, under final radar vectoring towards the Allied Formation, a group of Fw-190s and Bf-109s get final directions. Fly heading 285, expect bombers some 30 miles away. Defend the skies from the incoming bombers. Vahakyla fucked around with this message at 22:21 on Feb 12, 2024 |
