Real talk: NFL should phase out the 7th round of the draft. It doesn't produce many players of importance, and at this point it's probably more importantly bad TV. Let those guys go be UDFA's and make that process slightly more interesting

no edelman for your pats if no 7th round

no shannon sharpe for the broncos

no bo jackson for the raiders

I mean they just would've been UDFA's or 6th rounders, no difference

huge difference in NFL history, they probably would've ended up with different teams

if your position is "good players not selected in the 7th would've been picked up as UDFAs anyway" that could be applied to any round, including the first. teams' dedicated fans enjoy the draft, good staffs and GMs use it to gain advantage, why are you taking this away lol. the UDFA 'process' is not more interesting. that process is literally just a bunch of signing headlines by whoever can throw a tiny bit of money at agents first

Not a bad idea but don't 7th rounders generally get things that UFDAs don't with their contracts and league benefits?

I don't think so, I do know some players prefer to be undrafted by the time the sixth and seventh rounds roll around. I would imagine that you give up some rookie wage scale slot money, but in exchange you have your choice of destination. If I was a tight end, I would rather be undrafted and sign with New England than get drafted by the Packers in the seventh round. With New England, I would have a chance of making the roster, while in Green Bay I would be buried on the depth chart.

I'm an insufferable shitposter who does not deserve to root for such a good team. Also, this is what Matt Harvey thinks of me and my garbage posting.
When do UDFA signings start?
