Although it's usually preceeded (or followed) by "for the money," is it decent at bedroom volumes? I'm looking at possibly having to move into an apt. complex, and I want something valve that I can play at decent volume and not lose tone. I was recently living in a hotel during an away-from-home project, and I had my Hot Rod Deluxe with me. I couldn't even crank the thing up far enough that I could get a consistent tone out of it (think playing your guitar with the volume turned 90% down). It was incredibly frustrating and I want to avoid that again if I can.

Found one of these used at GC yesterday, an Ibanez SRX700. One of the higher end, neck-through Ibanez basses for just $315, I almost poo poo myself. It was missing two knobs but I asked if they had any that would fit the shaft and they said they would try to find matching knobs and give them to me for free. I just love the look of it, it's kind of got an Ibanez-meets-Leo Fender feel to it, and it's in the awesome honey burst finish pictured. It's my birthday present from my parents, we're going to pick it up today.

I live in an apartment too and worry about bothering my neighbors, the littel 10 watt marshall I have rarely gets turned up past "1" as its so harsh. This one however, sounds wonderful. I can crank it halfway easily- Its still loud(louder than the marshall obviously) but its very smooth and contained with the bass and treb at noon and the mids at 3 and the gain dimed without bothering my neighbors in the daytime (I asked them to be sure) and I was running it comfortably at around quarter volume at 2am last night to no ill effects. Its a great amp, same as the valve junior but with a bigger speaker (its sounds fuller, I a-b'ed them as well as the larger valve standard and the Special won out) and effects and an EQ. I actually like the effects, particularly the chorus. If you play high gain you will need a pedal though. I just ordered a DOD Yngwie preamp overdrive to push it a little more VVVV seriously, try putting the screws in the holes- it looks better and you won't lose the screws (btw that explorer is hot) Mr JinX fucked around with this message at 19:56 on Jan 28, 2007 |

Picked this up last week. I haven't taken pictures with my camera yet, so this image is a reasonable facsimile. Mine is actually a 1977 Rhodes Suitcase, minus the amp part. The tone is unbelievably awesome - my Motif had a pretty good Rhodes simulation, but the real thing is amazing. I need to get a preamp and I have an F that doesn't like to tilt back up sometimes, but otherwise, it's in great shape.

PoorPeteBest posted:A grandpa's guitars? That's for pussies and grandpas, I think you know it. Volume in acoustic guitars is produced by the soundboard vibrating, and by putting the sound hole in the traditional spot you take out a good chunk of the guitars potential amplification. The upper areas of the soundboard are acoustically dead, so by placing the sound holes there it doesn't interfere with the soundboard vibrating. It's really really loving loud basically. G is 0023 (and easily movable with a bar), C is 0230 (again, bar it!), Em is 0223 (I bet you can bar that!) and F is 233(5) (bar that sumbitch!), D is 2002 (hey, I wonder if a bar works there!), and D7 is 2032 (not so much with the bar!) Is that a Flatiron? You can bar, it's true. But you can also do 4-finger chords (non-barred) that work better for some things. For some of those chords, try these fingerings, too: code:
