I decided against the LTD EC-1000VB since it was taking far too long to arrive and also it wouldnt do much more for me than my Hamer Standard could. I ended up choosing an Ibanez RG1570 in Mirage Blue. I LOVE IT. one thing though I should probably start considering what pickups to buy for it though since the stock ones arent that great. whats a good bridge pickup for heavier stuff?

Definately get those ibanez pickups out of there asap. I really really like the JB model Seymour Duncan, it can be really heavy but also has a beautiful "milder" tone with less distortion. And this is coming from someone that plays death metal :)

If you want something really heavy, go for a seymour duncan invader or a dimarzio X2N, I prefer the invader personally but it is much less forgiving, any mistake in your playing will be heard clearly. But it also has a cleaner, more singing tone.
The seymour duncan dimebucker is also fun.
I really don't like the EMG tone, so I never advise anyone to get them, but they are certainly metal pickups so each to their own.

I've got one. Get the memory upgrade to 128 mb and get the harddisk kit plus a 80 gb (well, that's what I have :v: ) laptop drive - loading samples from CF sucks. There's also an alternative OS - the JJ OS which I plan on getting - despite it being a hacked OS, it's pretty awesome and adds features Akai never thought of. You always can revert back to the old one.

Make sure you get one with well-functioning pads. Some don't have enough glue on 'm. Not impossible to repair, but better safe than sorry. The MPC2000XLs are sturdier in that aspect but lack the huge memory. It's possible to retrofit them with a card reader, though, in case you don't want to lug around a SCSI setup.

Awesome dude, I like to see when people get quality guitars for their first ones. Pretty classy too. Whenever I see that blue burst on websites it looks chinsy but that looks really cool. Unless you're into jazz guitar you might want to get something a little more tonaly versitile once you get your fundamentals down though. Good luck!

Loosen the highest three strings - the skinny ones - and slide out the foam from that side. Retune the strings. Repeat on the low side.

I'm guessing with a low F#. I found initially on Sam Ash and said that Meshuggah was the big reason this thing was released to consumers.

I just ordered the 8 string, but it will only be deliverable in June :(
And I own the LTD version of that carpenter 7-string baritone. It's quite nice, fairly hard to play though for some reason (compared to my 7 string ibanez universe and my baritone 6 string), and I really dislike the EMG 81-7 pickups. I might switch them for the EMG 707s, or get a luthier to adjust the pickup spacing so I can put some lundgrens or bare knuckles in there

Thanks! One inspiration to begin guitar was Steve Howe's archtop prog guitar work as well as jazz guitar in general, so I think I'll be happy with this instrument for now, but do look forward to the time when I just "have" to buy a second, heh.

I've heard Platypus say the same thing (he settled on a Schecter C7 Hellraiser). I really like Stephen Carpenter's tone, but its a crapshoot if I'll get to play any instrument with either 81-7s or 707s in it since all music stores within 50 miles of me sell 90% Fender branded stuff.

What up, Vintage Sunburst Sheraton buddy

It's a wonderful guitar, you'll be very pleased with it I hope! And I also hope that soon I can afford one of the following guitars:

The Fender Mustang. I love love LOVE the way they look, and I would like a single coil guitar to compliment my Sheraton. They're supposed to be very versatile guitars.

The Epiphone EJ-200. I need a new acoustic as well, and the Gibson version of this has been used by lots of guitarists I love, like George Harrison and Pete Townshend. Plus, once again it's real purdy :) I think I'm kind of shallow when it comes to guitars sometimes.

I've been rocking one of these babies for years and I love it more than any guitar I have ever owned. Put a Seymour Duncan Hot Rail in the bridge position with a coil tap, couple that with the phase switching - oh man so many sounds.

If you have the means I highly recommend it.

I'd be tempted to get something like that, unfortunately I can't seem to find anywhere in the UK that sells schecter :(

An attenuator goes after the output and generally affects your tone in a negative way. It also wears your tubes out faster.
Power scaling is (again, if I understand correctly) like a variac that varies the voltage to your power tubes. This way you can fully saturate them but not drive them at full volume, retaining your tone and ultimately extending your tube life.
