HAM IT UP posted:Best episode of this season so far. Every skit in it had me laughing. What's the story behind the float? Did they actually enter in a real parade to dance with the doodadoodoo guy and throw hotdogs off of the back of a flatbed truck? Seems like it. I found this picture a few weeks before the episode actually aired. http://www.flickr.com/photos/jodilynn/301434944/in/set-72157594383424977/

Definitely one of my favorite episodes. You can't go wrong with David Cross, Maria Bamford, Will Forte, and hot underwear chick.

SInce it is Tim & Eric, it fits. Anyone planning on buying the Tom Goes to the Mayor DVD? I though it'd be in volumes, but hearing it's a complete series, I definitely want to get it now.

Wow, I was afraid after his lackluster part on TGttM David Cross would really suck it up, but its almost like he wrote his own sketch. I'm really starting to warm up to this show.

I still hate tim and eric because the core of their humor seems to consist of trying to look as stupid as possible. However, the lack of "Look at the retard hurr" humor in this episde made me hate the little show a little less. Can we have more TaEAS:GJ without much Tim and Eric?

I really thought I got obscure comedy... I guess not. I couldn't stand the mayor show, and this one is bad too. They were mocking hiring old people last night (the boom part was good), but the most I got out of the bit was the idea that they show employs any sort of writers at all. Is there a new form of comedy where it's cool to not have your audience laugh at all?

Why are you looking for a point? It's just there to laugh at it. Eric yells, "I hate these old men!" and I laugh, I don't see any reason for a deeper meaning. If someone told me they didn't like AD or Futurama, besides the obvious slapstick stuff, I'd tell them they probably didn't get it. For this show, though, you're just not into it, and that's okay. vv

Yeah, honestly, if you find yourself even remotely thinking "I'm not sure if I like this", or even if you find yourself remotely thinking, you're probably just not ever going to like it. I don't think it's an issue of "being able to understand it" or not, it's just a very particular style of comedy that has a very limited appeal, and there doesn't seem to be a lot of rhyme or reason to who it's going to make laugh and who's just going to absolutely detest it. My buddy and I were both huge Mr. Show fans, and are really big into that whole style of obnoxious absurdist comedy, but he absolutely hates TGTM and Tim and Eric, and I love it. Other than that, our tastes in "the funny" are almost identical. So there's definitely something polarizing about the drat show. I love the poo poo, but I've long since given up on trying to understand why. I'm just glad this thread has stayed relatively free of "HOLY poo poo ABSURDIST COMEDY THOSE GUYS MUST SMOKE TONS OF POT!!! LAWLZ!" remarks.

I remember that's what everybody said about south park when it first came out. Also if you don't like it after a few days you may like it after a week, I usually find things in TEASD:GJ s lot funnier after hinking about them for a week. I don't think they do a lot of stuff because it's stupid but I do think they do a lot of stuff because it's creepy, and thats awesome.

The local matress store's cheesy commercial, the serious business men(Tim's voice in that was hilarious), the overly friendly shopping channel lady with the slightly southern accent. It's funny to me because of how ridiculous it gets. The thought of some woman on QVC spazzing out about her emotionally abusive mom and making a wookie noise makes me laugh hard. ataridc fucked around with this message at 20:57 on Mar 26, 2007 |

T&E either has the most rigid structure of humor known to man, or absolutely none what so ever and is edited in iMovie. I found it useless to break down the structure of the humor, as that what gets in the way of the humor. Its pretty much flowing.

I think that possibly the big disconnect is that a lot of people come into this show expecting it to be totally dripping with self-satisfied irony and are kind of shocked because it comes across as a very 'sincere' attempt at being funny by some very weird individuals. Maybe that's it. Either way, I'm done over-examining stuff I like now.

I realize I'm on the tail end of this conversation, but...I think it's just that we are a generation who is so used to things being formulaic that we are breaking out of the mold. It used to be standard to be right and proper and to pronounce things clearly on TV and Radio. This is what these guys are making fun of the most. Just being stupid and making mistakes. Also, now I hear tons of accents and speech impediments on the Radio just to grab people's attention for commercials. It just doesn't matter anymore. On of the best examples of these guys goals from way back is there college art school video that I'd assume was some sort of capstone project. It is a study of Lobster in Film and why VHS is better than Film. It's hilarious. http://www.timanderic.com/emotions/filmschool.mov EDIT: The jokes in this are bad lighting, and bad editing. And they are in film school. That's their humor. If you are on the fence it might be because you migt watch their show and think, "Hey that's bad lighting, or they made a mistake in the editing" then don't watch it.

Also, I really wish some of you could quit saying "X is Tim and Eric's humor" and "if you think X, don't watch the show". It's a more veiled version of the elitist bullshit that Dr MegaTaco was probated for. If you enjoy the show for any reason, watch it.

If the idea got pitched at SNL or Mad TV or something the computer would have started asking crude or offensive questions. But with Tim and Eric it just asks about types of boats. And it's much funnier that way.

The bank computer was the funniest part of the show for me too, and probably had me laughing more than anything else in the series so far. For some reason it seems like a sketch like that shouldn't be all that funny when it's scripted, but I couldn't breath I was laughing so hard.
