Adam's rants really make the show for me. On this topic, try listening to the 04-08-01 show.

Adam uses pretty simple questions in response the "Right to Lifer" guest that's on the show. He makes it clearly obvious that the woman, and her organization, are full of poo poo, especially their "data." It actually kind of pisses me off that Dr. Drew says almost nothing during their debates and kinda leaves it up to Adam. Adam obviously has no problem holding his own, but the guest doesn't really take him seriously. Dr. Drew, as a medical professional, holds so much more clout that I think she would have been forced to retract some of her statements, at least for the purposes of the show.

I work overnights, so I can usually get at least 1-2 shows in per night and I started with January 2001 a month or two ago. Last week I heard that episode and I could loving feel Adam's urge to just punch that oval office in the throat. I wonder if he ever got that statistics between birth control and increased risk of getting an STD. :rolleye:

It's related to the brain, not the voice box. They not only have the higher tone of a young person, they slur their words and have a young inflection as well.

The voice is only part of the greater phenomenon. Often people who are molested (or, as you said, go through some other big trauma) tend to just freeze developmentally. They never really grow mentally. Or if they do, it's at a really slow rate. They don't get the emotional management, insight, or ability to have deep relationships that comes with maturing. Instead they're just caught in a loop, re-enacting the same trauma over and over. It's the human equivalent of a skipping record, they just can't help but keep going down the same groove. That's where therapy comes in. Or where it doesn't, then they find a molester of their own to have kids with and the cycle continues.

The other big one for him is the Second Hand Smoke topic.

IIRC, every now Adam would use that as his main example for discussing how much he hates it when people just make up data to prove a point. In retrospect, this is probably just another building block in culture of fear that was growing at the time and hit its watershed moment with 9/11 (I can remember him bringing this topic up in episodes as far back as '99).

As many people died from second hand smoke as the Vietnam War? Adam and Drew knew, as any sane person should, that this had to be full of so much poo poo. And when Adam "demanded" data to back up this claim, he knew that they could never provide it.

Hey guys. I have a problem, maybe you can help. I tend to work long hours. LOOOONG hours, but I make decent cash. One of the only things getting me by is Loveline. I probably average 3-4 episodes a day.

Long story short, I only got the first (Adam) year -2001- before the Archives went down and I've only got 8 episodes left. I know some of the archives are back up, I know if I spent the time I could get them through Torrent. The problem is I don't have time for all that, but I do have some disposable income.

I'd be more than happy to give a "donation" of $100 to any goon that can send me DVDs with every Carolla show (2001-2006) on it in mp3 format of quality matching the ones on Loveline Archives.

2004-05-27: It's Adam's 40th birthday, and the opening segment has one of his best ever "pie vs cake" rants. Seriously, gently caress cake.

Holy poo poo, this one is absolutely great, thanks. Adam and Patton Oswalt have such a great rapport, I love when they go off on a tangent about the one guy who calls in talking about how he "lasts too long". "Uh, by the way, I was just calling in to say I have X-Ray vision and I'm impervious to bullets".

Brian Posehn's style is a little too dry, nerdy, and slow for most of the show, but he gets some great ones in too.
