And seriously, without the Erfworld and Goblins discussion, (and with the way OOTS has updated recently) this thread would end up pretty much dry, like the Dresden Codak thread. I like the variety of fantasy webcomics here, just talking about one plot gets boring after a while.

Aaaand a new strip is up! Not much to discuss in this one I feel, though hopefully the next strip might (finally) start the main plot arc rolling.

I think Roy is about to discover whatever rules exist that force ghosts to be all cryptic.

I'm kind of curious as to what Haley (and possibly Belkar) will think about Roy visiting them at this point. I forget exactly how long has passed, but Haley has been on her own basically setting up her own resistance, steering Belkar, dragging around Roy's body, I don't think that she's going to be all that willing to drop what she's been doing and chase around after Roy's ghost anymore. The other half of the Order has basically kept on playing followers (to the Lord) but Haley has become a leader.

She doesn't seem too thilled about it, she's mostly in it for the loot and the SNEAK ATTACK and while she does seem to like authority I think she'll be happy to have someone else around to shift blame onto and deal with messes ie Belkar

Jonked posted:Plus she's in love with Elan. Exactly. He's smart enough to manipulate her by simply dangling the Elan carrot in front of her. Wonder if we're gonna get a joke with one of the low level azure clerics spotting roy and trying to turn him, only to have him make some sarcastic comment about hit dice. Also, I don't know how the rules work in OotS's world, but in D&D if you die and go to whatever plane your alignment matches, you're a petitioner (which I believe is technically an outsider), whereas if you appear as a ghost you're undead, with the whole negative energy bit. I wonder if Roy is some kind of incoporial outsider, rather than a true undead that would be susceptible to necromancy stuff, like turn undead and whatnot. It would be unusual if residents of the lawful good realm can just randomly pop down to the prime material by becoming negative energy powered undead.

How about we just make a NEW thread that is 'Fantasy comic time! OOTS, EW, Goblins, YAFGC, and more stupid letter combinations!'. This is pretty big and a name change/new thread with new rules might make everybody happy. Or everybody unhappy. Which is almost as good.

Maybe I'm crazy, but the comics have seemed to be slowing down in frequency during the last couple weeks. I wonder if Burlew's health is flaring up again. This comic disappointed me a bit. While I'm all in favor of running gags like the poof monsters, I'm really eager to see the plot moving and the band back together.

I'm not saying I want things serious, far from it. I just would have preferred 3 panels max of flumph and then Roy somehow trying to grab Haley's attention instead of half flumph half offhand air freshener joke. The story needs to move on, I dont want this to be all DBZ with Roy being dead for 3 years.

Now, now. It'll only be DBZ if V's power-up to a spell takes ten months and features more grunts than a hog farm.

Goddamn. I don't believe it hasn't occurred to me until now, but after seeing Roy's corpse, I really want to see action figures. Actually, I want customizable blank vinyl OotS figures. Right the gently caress now. e: and Werle, I liked the air freshener joke!

So since the Flumphs are a recurring lame monster feature I wonder exactly how lame are they in game terms?

Sylphosaurus posted:So since the Flumphs are a recurring lame monster feature I wonder exactly how lame are they in game terms? They're a lawful good race of floating intelligent jellyfish that fly by shooting out small blasts of air, and talk by wheezing out same. And if they're flipped upside-down, they're entirely helpless. They're lame more in terms of concept than in stats, although I've always had a soft spot for them and some of the other wackier 1e creatures, like the flail snail or the gorbel. Some of them were just too silly to hate. They were never converted to 3.5 in any of the books, but Dungeon converted them for an adventure some time back. I've got a transcription of those stats, but I'm not sure if I should post them, since it's kind of a topic derail. Idran fucked around with this message at 21:54 on Feb 3, 2008 |

Actually weren't both of them in the Fiend Folio that got re-released about 4-5 years back?

The original Fiend Folio is a treasure. It introduced the drow (for whose later indulgences it is not responsible), as well the githyanki and githzerai, the slaad, the deep gnomes and the kuo-toa. Among these now-iconic D&D staples we find creepy, bizarro poo poo like the pennangalan (flying female vampire head with viscera hanging from it) and the yellow musk creeper (mind controlling plant recently seen in the Goblins webcomic). ... and the flumph, the flail snail and several other awesomely laughable (or laughably awesome?) creatures. The whole book is one gigantic hardcover "WTF?" I remember springing some of that crazy poo poo on players back in 1981. They begged me to go back to the Monster Manual but they still thought the drow were cool, and that was before the whole race was issued dual scimitars.
