I was on one in just an f250 with a goose neck trailer once. It was pretty sweet.

Dumb fact: Dumptrucks with a trailer hold a higher total weight than a loaded semi (53' or 28' train). I know this isn't really what you're saying.

Okay, so after viewing the visual equivalent of an AIDS/Ebola hybrid that is Redline, condensed to 9 pain filled minutes (cross posted from the car chase thread): Gear Head posted:God hates you all, and here is something to prove that. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ymp6U0NdBp4 So to make up for that, here is a chase scene from one of the more regrettable/forgettable movies of all time, Corvette Summer. Even in its depths of spectacular awfulness, it still manages to look like a car chase scene, not some ad for razors or sunglasses. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8U5NBCRdPFw Bonus shot of the guy at the end failing at his task. Please tell me that whatever pond scum made that Redline movie were sterilized as medical waste and then fired into the sun. Pleeeease!

That show would be so much better without the crappy sound effects and John Brunell. The story I heard was that the guys dad is an instructor at a track, and that he did get away but was arrested later at home. "made a movement, with his shoulders, like he was going to hit me." Then he over-reacts and puts the car in a ditch. Ha. jamal fucked around with this message at 03:22 on Jan 26, 2008 |

If driving fast is so dangerous, why didn't the officer ram the bmw when it slammed on the brakes? I guess they didn't think he was a big enough danger that he really needed to be stopped, they just wanted to have fun chasing him.

Here's a video of the Thrust SSC breaking the land speed record back in 1997. 760-ish mph, broke the sound barrier. The quality is pretty poor but the sound is amazing! Sounds like the world is about to end as he approaches 600-ish mph. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fr0KdxhYgfY Here's another of the Turbinator breaking the speed record for the fastest wheel-driven vehicle (The Thrust SSC was jet-propelled). 470mph. Quality is fantastic on this one and you really get a great sense of speed. The sound of the turbine spooling up is just badass. Make sure you turn it up really loud for full effect. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DiAkC-QCC1k

I lack the skills to work it out, but given an 80ft starting height and a 200ft covered distance, how fast would that be given the weight of the car. blambert fucked around with this message at 20:36 on Jan 27, 2008 |

That's disappointingly slow, especially for that car, and the distance that they had to build speed. Also, how would they have picked up forward momentum in the air? Once the car left terra firma, it was merely a projectile, so the only acceleration would have been downwards (with a small amount of deceleration due to drag).
