Yeah, I've been jonesing for one of these for years. If not for a recent small inheritance I'd never be able to afford one. I could have gotten a new "Fender American Vintage Hot Rod '62 Strat" which is virtually the same guitar minus the "relic" job, and saved a few hundred bucks, but I wanted "Custom Shop" quality. Hopefully, this will be last Strat I ever buy. The owner of the place I bought it (Dave's Guitars) has an Original 1965 Olympic White Strat (not for sale). I'll just quote what he's says about it... quote:I bought this one close to twenty years ago (man how time flies!)! A customer came into my shop with this guitar and he wanted to sell it. I asked him who did the refinish job on it as it looked great! He just looked confused and said he didn't understand what I was asking. He bought it new and never did anything to it! It turned out that he had bought this guitar new in 1971 (it was hanging in the store where he took lessons for 6 years!) and just never really picked it up after that. The guitar looked brand new then and it still does now!

I got a Standard Series 240 PA head that I use for guitar (through an Avatar G212H cabinet), and it sounds really good. Lower volumes is are nice and glassy clean, higher volumes and/or boosted input signals (line booster) distort really well.

Is the extra wire silver? You should solder it to the volume pot, and there should be a ground wire connected to the bridge that goes to the volume pot as well. I'm looking to buy a volume pedal in the next few days for my own use with my bass and to lend to the guitarist in my band. Cheaper is better, but the goal is to get those smooth Kirk Hammett fade-ins on an intro to an instrumental we're performing on Friday. I'm in the UK, so can't order from Musician's Friend or other states-only shops. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I have no idea where to start.

My new Gibson ES-137 arrived the other day and holy gently caress it is the best sounding guitar I've ever played. It looks smoking too. There were a couple small issues though like part of the binding being a bit off, and excess glue at the joints. A local luthier pretty much took care of the problems, but gently caress the guy at Guitar Hangar (where I bought the guitar). He is a prick. Hahaha! YES!! EBAY RULES!     I just won all that stuff for less than $600. Granted it's in less than perfect condition, that is of no concern to me. I expected this auction to go well up into the $1500 area, into the realm of "I'd have to be insane to bid on that because I don't have enough money" area, considering it comes with everything that was available with the guitar at the time; it was a $3000 unit back in the mid 80s. Hell, I've seen the G707 guitar controller go for $1500 alone these days in decent condition. My bidding fingers are numb. You don't know how happy this makes me.

I traded somebody my usa telecaster for it straight up, he lost a few hundred in the deal because the LP hurt his back and he wanted to get rid of it for a high end tele. Steal of the loving century for me. It's perfect.

Well hell yeah, here comes the Kraftwerk train. Or maybe some Duran Duran. Or Metallica. The guy threw in a DW Double Bass pedal (which I seriously doubt I'd ever use except to look hard core yo). Roland TD3. Oh snap I'm loving it already. Of course, I have no time for it, but, hey, it's "for the kids" hahahaha right.

Oakland University of getting rid of their pianos to make room for new ones...new equipment means a better chance at getting better students for their programs and people like me get to score big on the sale that they do once a year...I ended up dropping just over 12k for it. I have wanted a baby grand piano my entire life and now that I have the job that allows me to indulge in that fantasy...well, there you have it.

New stuff in the mail, budget edition! First, two Warehouse Guitar Speakers Veteran 30s.  I've decided that I'm going to go with two of them first and run in an X-pattern with my English Celestion V30s. Vintage 30 top left, Veteran 30 top right, Veteran 30 bottom left, Vintage 30 bottom right. I think it ought to sound good, looking at the specs on the two speakers. We'll see. Next up the GLS Audio ES-57, a SM-57 clone that (much like the Veteran 30s versus the Vintage 30s) smooths out the high end a bit and fills out the lows slightly.  Reviews I read speak highly of it, with some audio engineers at recording forums preferring it to the SM-57 for many applications (and, of course, some people saying that anything that cheap probably sounds like rear end). They have some kind of a no-questions-asked return policy on it that if I'm not happy with how it sounds, they'll refund it, so not much to lose there. Plus, they have 100% positive ebay feedback with over 20,000 transactions, and a AAA rating from the BBB. Dumpster diving for fun and profit!  My new Avatar G212H special with 1 G12H and a Vintage 30. I love it, I played a few friend's Avatar's before buying mine. I definitely recommend Avatar to anyone looking for great sounding nearly completely customizable tone and impeccable build quality. Mine is semi-open back, about 3/4 closed and the depth of tone from the two different speakers sounds killer.

DOD Octoplus Got this used for dirt cheap. It kind of bogs out on the anything between frets 1-5 on the low E, but other than that its fine. I never play that low anyway when I'm using this pedal. Daphon e20cm Compressor  This thing is ugly as gently caress, but it is solid as a rock. Definitely built to last, and works like a charm! I have a question now, though. I need a Distortion pedal badly. I have a choice between a 70's MXR Distortion+ for $50, or $40 for a DOD Supra Distortion. I'm leaning towards the MXR, just for the vintage factor alone. But sound-wise, which should I go for?

Hay doods, look what I got yesterday! New pickups, pickguard, graphite nut, graphite string trees, and miscellaneous electronics. Bridge - GFS Power Rails Middle - GFS Alnico Boutique R/W Neck - GFS Crunchy PAT I also got in the Wasabi Overdrive deal that went on last month. With the Crunchy PAT, its a very smooth, bluesy overdrive, with the Alnico Boutique, I get a very Cars-era Ric Ocasek tone, and with the Power Rails, it loving screams. I've always loved this guitar, so the next addition to it will be a new neck later down the road.

I'm not focussing my questions at you per-se, I've wondered this about a lot of guitars upgrades (Fender mostly). I saw a P-Bass on Harmony central someone changed the body of because it was a different colour and I thought that it was fairly significant change to the character of the instrument as a whole. Don't get me wrong I'm on board with the whole upgrade thing, I've built a Strat myself from parts.

I believe that once you change the body, its a completely different guitar. Necks are an appendage that can break, warp, etc..., so replacing those aren't a big deal to me. But once the body is replaced, the soul is replaced too.

My Number 2 guitar has had the pickups, pickguard, pots, switch, and neck changed... she plays different, but still has that sound and basic feel that drew me to her. However, I would never change the neck on my Number 1... it's been broken in too drat well for that.

The only things still Strat on my Strat are the neck and the body, and the neck is just about to go. I definitely still consider it the same guitar, My Guitar. It certainly isn't the same guitar that shipped from the factory, but what it is to me has not changed at all, just gotten closer and closer to my ideal for this instrument. It's kind of funny to see metaphysical questions about identity over time arising in this thread, to be honest.

Clapton and SRV's strats were never really the same throughout their career. Things happen on tour, necks break, electronics fail, you replace them as needed, but they were always still "Lenny" or "Brownie" to their players. I think they are kind of like a best friend that has innumerable personalities and can never die. But then again, replacing a neck, or just pups is one thing, If you replace every part on a strat then it's kind of like in 5 card draw, you should never redraw four, you probably should just fold (i.e. buy a better strat).
