Clean up, aisle 3.
Gah, we lost 3-1 tonight with 53 shots on me. My team had 20 shots on their net. Bothersome. If we could stay the gently caress out of the penalty box, maybe they wouldn't have had so many drat chances. The good news was that of all of the breakaways, I stopped 100% of them. So I got that going for me...which is nice.

Last night, the fuckhead who played before us had ArmorAll or Crisco or some poo poo on his pads and they couldn't clean it out of the crease.

It was loving awful, and I'm going to Jonathan Roy the guy next time we play them.

In conclusion: if you play roller hockey and put anything on your pads that isn't plastic, you should die.

Did you complain to the rink? That guy should be suspended or banned from the rink for that.

I did, they said that it was a new guy, so they didn't notice it until I said something, but they will warn him next time he plays.

I finally tried taping my knee pads last night and it was nice to spend an entire open hockey session without worry about whether or not my knee pads were sliding around or if my knees were exposed.

We also had a fight at open hockey last night. We had two guys that were fighting for the puck and evidently one of the said something to piss the other guy off and they started shoving eachother. One of the guys turned around and then the guy in a teal sweater unloaded a slapshot into the back of the other guys calf. At least the rink staff broke it up pretty quickly, but it was just more weird than anything.

Deliberate shots at the unprotected part of a guys leg aren't exactly the classiest things ever, either. I would probably run a guy for doing that.

I know. You would think that skaters would come to open hockey with the attitude that it doesn't matter, so they should just try to work on their game and have fun. However, every once in a while you get an rear end who takes themselves way too seriously. I guess it would be one thing if someone felt that a player was deliberately trying to injure them, but even then it's not really worth it.

P.S. Inline fights are the only thing more awkward than open hockey fights.

I was wondering how much protection players have on the back of their shin guards. I assume that it wraps around at least somewhat, but it was definitely a classless move. I was surprised that they let both people continue to play after that, but it was kind of funny to watch some of the ex-pros waiting for the guy in the teal sweater to start things up again.

Someone doesn't even have to take it too seriously to piss people off, and it doesn't take much for it to feel like someone's trying to hurt you. All it takes to piss me off in open-hockey is little poo poo that I'd shrug off in a game, like a hook in the midsection, or crosschecks in the back in front of the net. poo poo that might probably?) not even get called. I don't do anything about it, but I still get loving pissed. This is the number one reason I leave 15 minutes early from like half the sessions I go to.

Oltimers league fights are the most awkward. The refs'll just stand back and let the players sort it out themselves, which usually takes forever.

I don't really take open hockey seriously at all. Maybe because I don't pay to get in and (not to sound like a dick but) they need me more than I need to be there, so I get a little leeway in how I can behave, relax, and joke around and whatnot.

Do we ever! I was running a drop-in for a while and I would do everything in my power to try to get two goalies to show up. If anyone pissed off one of the goalies enough to make them think of leaving we'd gently caress with the skater and try to appease the goalie with free beer afterwards.

It is definitely the singles bar effect, since open hockey is pretty much worthless without a goalie and even if you aren't the greatest goalie in the world, the skaters will be more than happy to have you. Plus as you said, you get a greater amount of leeway in how you behave. You certainly don't want to act like an outright rear end, but you're definitely given the benefit of the doubt and if something stupid happens, then it is nice to realize that the skaters have your back. Hell, even the two players that got in a fight on Friday night were nothing but nice to me.

Hey, MARTYTOOF, how'd you take off the BATTRAM heat transfers from your gear again? I tried using a razor blade on the calf wing but it's looking like its just going to leave an indentation that says BATTRAM because some of the material underneath is sticking to the letters I'm trying to peel up.

Not seen: RBX X-Pulse 6.0 C/A, same as his.

Got to wear the pads on the court all of one time before the knee injury. PMA and sba already know, but torn medial meniscus. Looks like my two options are surgery or other surgery.

Weird thing, is that it hasn't hurt at all over the past 5 days or so now. Debating putting that off for now.

On Monday, I twisted my knee or something. Planted my left foot into the ground and then turned to the right which resulted in me instantly falling to the ground wanting my leg to fall off. Going to the hospital for x-rays finnaly.. was hoping it would just heal, but I realise that isn't the case now.

How often, and what is the most common injuries everyone gets?

This really blows because we have our first league game tommorow night, aside from wrapping it real tight and wearing a leg brace what should I do?

4.8s actually, got them on clearance at Great Skate's tent sale last summer for $75 total. I like the blocker, but not a big fan of the glove.

Mine really didn't hurt that bad at first. Maybe for 5 minutes in the game, then it was fine until about 3 hours later. Though, I did the same as you, put it off for a week and change thinking it was just a sprain.

Hopefully it's not that bad man.

Polish, look at the bright side -- when you get back your team will appreciate you just that much more :haw:

I know it sucks sitting on the sidelines with your team down, but please don't hit the pipes before you're ready. If you're feeling any pain whatsoever I'd suggest waiting another week. Better to miss 2 or 3 weeks healing a minor knee ailment then 2 or 3 months or more because you've blown it out completely :smith:

Going to a specialist tomorow to see what the hell is wrong with my knee.. in the mean time.. what would be good to use to clean my pads? I just spray them down with febreeze before I throw them in my bag.. seems to be working well..although they are a bit dirty.

If I got time off.. I figure I should come back clean... :)

Since you guys are talking about goalie gear, just a heads up for any of you Bay Area goons, I work at Powerplay Hockey in Downtown San Jose, so if any of you good goon folks need new anything (even non-goalie stuff) just come on by. I can give a decent discount (10% or more) and I can offer free skate sharpenings just as long as too many people don't end up coming. We probably do the best skate sharpenings for goalie/player skates in the Bay Area.

If there's any actual interest, I can give my name and what days I work so you guys can come on in.

How good of gear do you really need to start off playing roller hockey? My friends play with a hard puck, and i pretty much bought some of the cheapest stuff i could find at discounthockey.com just so i could have gear to play (with the exception of a mask, I'm buying the standard Itech ice mask). My friends say i should be ok so i went with it, but i'm kinda thinking maybe i should have bought better stuff?

I plan on playing ice eventually, but i know i will need to replace pretty much everything but my mask, but i should be cool for roller right?

The pants are great for the price. The remainder of the gear is completely privy to the age old adage of "Buy quality, buy once." The GTL pads are ok, I guess, but really, with some pretty decent gear being at the price point it is, you shouldn't be using the chest, glove, or blocker since there are better options at a similar price point.

I would be really concerned with the protection in the palm of a street hockey catcher. I had a Mylec trapper for street hockey and you could feel a tennis ball if it hit you in the palm. With that and the flimsy wrist protection I would never want to try catching a puck with it. You can definitely find better gear for not that much more money.

Their English site is currently taking a poo poo.

This is the "store" link off their Polish page, but I don't know whether you'll be able to decipher it or whether they'll even ship overseas.

You can try sending a message from the contact page (http://www.pzhl.org.pl/contact.php), or you can try spamming some emails off to the emails listed on that page too.
