I'm going to throw in a little Animal Planet action here. I'm watching the new season of Meerkat Manor (subtitled "The Next Generation") and I really don't like Stockard Channing as the narrator. She's reading the script with all the emotion of someone reciting a telephone book. Bring back Sean Astin, drat you!

Anyone looking for some great HD content should check out episode 4 of When We Left Earth, "The Explorers". There's some really high quality footage from the latter lunar missions and Skylab. It's really impressive and awe inspiring. The Apollo 16 stuff with the lunar rover was especially cool.

I swear the Science Channel said they weren't going to air Cosmos anymore after the marathon last Sunday, but it's on again today. Did they decide to keep airing it, or did I just hear wrong? I really hope they do keep airing it, my life just isn't the same without the dulcet tones of Carl Sagan's voice to soothe me.

FYI - Shark Week starts this Sunday at 9pm. The Mythbusters are doing another shark show, and it looks like Les Stroud is doing a show called "Surviving Sharks". There's a Shark Week themed Dirty Jobs, and a show called "How not to be shark bait" that will be hosted by Yul from Survivor. The episode guide is here: http://dsc.discovery.com/convergence/sharkweek/episode-guide/episode-guide.html And remember kids, live every week like it's Shark Week

Yeah, I'm going to watch it all too, but It was better when it was just sharks wrecking other animals' day. Maybe they should spice it up and do Big rear end Apex Predator Week so we can see bears and big cats mauling stuff too.

Does anybody really give a drat about the Tory/Grant/Kari portions of the show? Granted, Kari is nice to look at for the most part, but my friends and I just aren't as interested as we are with Adam and Jamie by a long shot..

It all depends on the experiment. There are shows where the build team portions are much more entertaining than Adamn and Jamie's and vice versa. For the most part they're OK

This is why Shark Week kind of sucks now. They just air one or two new shows mixed in with tons of over-replayed reruns. It also doesn't help that they're trying to pass off old shows as new just because they're in HD now.

Just finished watching the Mythbuster's Shark Week special and it was pretty good. They fit a bunch of myths into one episode and it didn't seem like they were dragging any of them out. There's definitely a recurring theme with the insurance people for the show. Tory, is apparently completely expendable and in any dangerous situation they're totally cool with him testing it out. The insurance people said that Adam could only get "attacked" by the RoboShark if Tory tested it out first and was unharmed. The RoboShark actually ended up being pretty impressive and it looked like a ton of work. In other Discovery Channel news, it looks like new episodes of Mythbusters, Smash Lab, and Man vs. Wild* will start next week. Mythbusters is doing a myth about tenderizing meat with explosives, so be sure to turn the "science" part of your brain off and divert power to the "explosives" side. There's also a couple new shows, one called "Next World" and "Some Assembly Required" (actually, that last one may not be a new show). *Wild may include untamed hotel rooms and savage bellhops

I saw a preview for the new Smash Lab and it isn't getting any better. In an attempt to "save" a car that is falling off a cliff, they have attached very large air bladders to the outside of the car with steel reinforcing rods that will break off and kill the occupants more quickly. It appears the show is still pretentious and trying to take itself seriously. I looked at the Discovery web site and it looks like they replaced a couple of the actors with new guys, but they kept Dumb Girl and Dipshit With The Hair. We now have The Reverend and The Artisan instead of the preferable The Roadrunner and The Coyote. There's a lot of bad shows, but this one actively makes me despise it.

They hired him specifically because he had a lot of experience performing stunts whereas the rest of the crew's experience is more towards making the stunt rigs. Tory's a trained professional Adam is not. Yep. In a movie special, Adam was going to do the "jumping through window awnings" stunt and the insurance people said Tory had to do it instead.

Perhaps some kind of travel show?

The dirty jobs episode was amazing, I did however get the feeling that this was the one time that he was actually genuinely uncomfortable with the job and the work conditions. Guess he just really doesn't like being cold. The timing of that crew member falling through the ice also simply could not have been any better.

Mike Rowe is probably one of the most versatile entertainers on the planet, he could probably do any entertainment format and succeed. Guy went from being on QVC, to being an opera singer, to a voice over specialist, to the hose of a show where he shovels poo poo and hurts himself all day.
