Uncle Caveman posted:It varies by the guitar and the pickup itself - for instance, the neck mysterybuckers in most Epiphones do tend to get muddy & useless when pushed hard. My favorite dirty-neck sounds are a P-90, a Gretsch Filtertron (a kind of mini-humbucker,it stays bright & clear), a Fender Jazzmaster (big fat flat coil with magnet polepieces, has a really strong vowel sound) and a Danelectro lipstick tube (might as well be a bridge pickup, clangy as all hell). I know this luthier who builds his own custom telecasters, he finally found his favorite pickup combination which is a Tele with a humbucker-bridge, and a Jazzmaster-neck. And yeah, that thing sounds mean.

Less guitars, more synths - here's what's going to be my first official restauration project: and if I can't get it to work like I want to, I'll try to build my Solina String Ensemble in there. edit: oh yeah, and a series of tubes to shrink my stand back to 120cm (145 now). Great amp, lovely stock tubes. Put some JJs in there and it will scream.

I plan on throwing some JJs in there pretty soon. Does your amp get insanely hot ? I mean this thing was "touch the knobs for more than a second and fry your hand" hot, after a couple hour band practice. I wonder if I should mod a fan into it.

Yeah, mine also gets really hot. I don't notice it in the knobs but the display plate gets crazy warm at times. The boost is great on the clean channel it seems to balance things out really well in a band situation. One thing I don't like is that the V32 doesn't have too much headroom. It really easy to get crunchy on the clean channel and sometimes I don't want that.

Yoozer posted:Less guitars, more synths - here's what's going to be my first official restauration project: Man, that's half of a Rhapsody set-up right there. I bought a drum kit about, oh, three years ago. I didn't want to blow all of my cash at once, so I didn't buy a throne. Playing on a piano bench wasn't comfortable at all, and my kit sat unused in the basement. Goon-brother CmdrSmirnoff, being the kind of person who doesn't sit on his rear end doing nothing all day, browsed some sites and found that LA Music in our city had a DW throne on sale (to the tune of 150 bucks off the regular price). The 9120 AL Pneumatic lift with a backrest. Good god, if only I had bought this sooner. It's like sitting on a cloud made specifically for my rear end. Adjusting the height is easy, the backrest keeps me sitting up straight, and kicking is much more comfortable now that my legs are properly positioned. The guy at the store said it's the Rolls Royce of thrones, and even though this is my first, I'm not gonna argue with him.

just got this thing and the guitar under. Quick question though. When I bend a string with a little bit of distortion and full volume (on the guitar) and gain at 11 o clock and reverb at 0 and master at 9 o clock I get a pop and it sounds like its cutting in and out. What could be the problem? It does it on both my guitars. It's a mesa boogie express 5:50 1x12

What could be the problem? It does it on both my guitars. Got it under what? What kind of guitar are you playing? I'd be willing to bet that the action on your neck is too low or otherwise messed up, and when you're bending, the string is bottoming out higher up on the fretboard, causing it to buzz for a bit, and then lose volume. Play every string on every fret (one at a time) with a fair amount of attack with your right hand with your amp totally clean and listen for buzzing or any sort of off-notes. Sometimes a warped neck or an improperly setup guitar can cause that sort of thing. Seriously. Been using the black Jazz IIIs for years, but decided to try some of these out and they're amazing. Far easier to hold on to than the black ones so they don't slip around. If you like to play fast and don't use these then you're missing out.

I just got an Epiphone AJ-100. Yeah, it's basically the cheapest and lowest quality acoustic I could find, but all I was really looking for was something cheap that I can mess around with and play outside in the sunshine. I'll buy a nicer acoustic later, and sell this one to one of my friends or something.

I found the reds way harder to hold on to compared to the blacks, and i played better with the blacks. The ultex ones have a much rougher finish and sharp, raised lettering that makes them an absolute joy to use.

Wheee, I finally took pictures. Keeping with my tradition of pre-named basses (Ernie Ball Music Man Sting Ray 5 and my Rob Allen MB-2) here is my Epiphone Allen Woody Rumblekat. Its a very shiney bass, as you can see and it looks all bling'd out. I was also surprised how slim it was when I first got it. I never really got a sense of how skinny it was from online photos. And then my more recent purchase: Its a Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0 12T. Now the amp has 600 watts at 4ohms, which is a hefty number. There's a tube preamp in there that can get a little raunchy, but I have enough headroom to get a clear punch too. The combo really sounds wonderful. And the best part: it weighs 32 pounds. Yes that's the amp AND the cab. A 12 inch cab and 600 watt amp for 32 pounds. For perspective a Phil Jones Briefcase amp, a terrific sounding amp with 100 watts and a 2x5 speaker config, (http://www.philjonesbass.com/products-combos-briefcase.htm) weighs 28 pounds. My Glockenklang Heartcore head by itself weighs 27.56 pounds. Its just unreal how light it is with the tone and volume it can achieve. I was tired of hauling things up and down three flights of stairs and this was the perfect solution.

My new Transblue Epiphone Les Paul: My friends and I decided to splurge and go to Guitar Center's Memorial Day sale. Waited at 7 in the morning, for an hour as the line behind us grew. They gave free donuts and coffee which was pretty sweet. Finally when they let us in a store the lights were dimmed, and they had fog-machines and stage lights going about while everyone in the store clapped when we walked through. Then I saw the guitar, grabbed the bitch off the rack and dwaddled with it for 20 minutes. Another guy asked for another Transblue, but none were in the back so he literally circled the aisle I was in waiting for me to put it down so he could snatch it up. Once I bought it he just walked out of the store empty handed. Felt kinda like an rear end in a top hat, but there'd be no other guitar for me. As my first electric guitar I'm loving pleased, sadly I was on a budget so I got the cheapest amp they had (pictured). It's got modest tone, and a poo poo-ton of built in effects to toy with. For $100 it's a steal. sigher fucked around with this message at 21:10 on Jun 21, 2008 |

1985 Made In Japan, 62 Reissue - Fender Telecaster. An awesome craigslist find today. Will take better pictures in the future, but this should work for now. The bridge pickup needs a bit of work - rewiring, or replacement. Bought a set of flatwounds for it today, so in the next week, I'll get to work on setting it up.
