It's like a bunch of big rich kids in hilariously powered purpose built trucks crashing up hills and then usually rolling back down in vague disaster. and that's mostly a trick of perspective from being far away and probably viewing the hill at the same general angle of the hill. Same with the Blastolene special. Has that thing ever had the throttle mashed on it? The enine probably only revs to 2k anyway.

Lilbeefer posted:Same with the Blastolene special. 4k, I recall reading about it somewhere. It would seem more useful for restarting the sun or reversing the spin of the earth than going anywhere at a high speed (but certainly rapid acceleration). The complete lack of revs would seem like it'd be difficult to build any kind of real transmission that would let you go anywhere fast. More gears = less durability, generally, right? Ninja Edit: Oh wait I was thinking about that in the wrong direction. It wouldn't need that many gears despite the low RPM's to go quickly, and you wouldn't need low gears to launch because of the massive torque, so tall gears would just make launches possible. So, nevermind my theory above.

god, some of those jumps look like a broken back. I drive sandcars with 18 to 23 inches of travel with "suspension" seats, a jump like that van can loving hurt your back. I'd hate to know how that guy feels. In one of our shop cars we put a stereo amp under the seat, bad idea; my rear end swallowed it on a landing.

coldfire07 posted:I think I remember reading somewhere that he kind of laid down and survived. Truck/Travel Trailer Crashes Texas State Bank- July 2, 2008 At approximately 3 PM, Tuesday, July 2, a 2008 Dodge Ram 2500, pulling a new travel trailer, hit the corner of the Texas State Bank Drive-In on Tenaha Street, causing the complete awning to come to the ground. Luckily, the driver of the Dodge, Mickey Miller, of Garrison and his 10 year old son were able to exit their vehicle uninjured. According to Miller he was circling the bank to park on the other side when the corner of his travel trailer caught the corner of the bank awning. Next thing he heard was a rumble as the awning started falling against his driver's side door. Somehow he was able to unbuckle the seat beat and exit the other side of his truck as it was falling. Ok, sorry! I guess he did live.

pank posted:Yeah man you sure are a crazy driver, we've all heard! Just a shade over enthusiastic at times. It's the main reason I only ever buy shitboxes. If I'm driving somewhere and am not needed at the destination in a hurry and see something fun off the side of the road, detours get taken. I spent most of my life in the country around fun, mountainous roads. Here everything is flat, straight and boring. Whenever I see my chance to experience something else I take it. But I do drive totally within the boundaries of the road laws normally. ^^^^ Aeka 2.0, going airborne in a van isn't too bad. Because the driver is sitting over the front wheel they tend to have more travel and softer shocks up front. What can be painful is when the front of the van ploughs into the ground before the front wheels make contact. Yes, I found that out in my VW camper. I am grateful that it has a fuckoff tube steel bullbar on the front with a bottom part that is angled and works like skidbars though. drat fun things to drive offroad though. Perhaps not the easiest or most sane choice, but very enjoyable. Once I fabricate a new brake light sender assembly I'm taking it out to a nice patch of mud and dirt I found near here to test the recent motor work. Not mods, repairs.
