On a completely unrelated note, does anyone have any suggestions as to some apps no man can live without? I'm kinda lacking in the App department.

So did Apple just completely forget about releasing their new in-ear headphones in October? These are the ones I'm referring to: http://www.apple.com/ipod/inearheadphones/ I was really excited to see how they were, and no one seems to know what happened. I asked at the Apple store and they were pretty clueless, too. I looked at the last few pages and didn't see anyone mention this. Sorry if it's already been discussed.

I bought an iPod Touch yesterday to replace my 30GB Zune with a busted hard drive. I'm trying to get my music to show up properly on the iPod but I cannot for the life of me get a handful of albums to play in the right order. The track numbers all show up correctly in iTunes, but it's all out of order on the iPod. I've tried deleting and resyncing all the music, deleting and resyncing the albums in question, and deleting and resyncing each song on the affected albums one by one. Nothing I've tried has made the songs show up in the right order, and I'm getting increasingly pissed off. It boggles my mind that iTunes has been around for seven years and still sucks this much. edit: Figured it out. Apparently iTunes wasn't picking up on the Album Artist tags for all of the songs, despite them being embedded in the metadata. Top-notch work, Apple. edit2: While I'm here, is there a way to organize videos decently on the Touch? I've got two movies, two episodes of House, and two episodes of the Sopranos on here, and they all just show up in a big list, with the only division being between TV and movies. Is there a way to enable some sort of sub-menu so I could, for example, select "The Sopranos" and have it go to a list showing just episodes of The Sopranos? I'm currently having some Touch issues on my Mac. When I connect it, a message pops up saying iPod touch "name of iPod touch" cannot connect to iTunes because it requires iTunes 7.7 or later. Please download the newest version of iTunes. The problem is, I already have the latest iTunes version. I have tried reseting the settings on my iPod touch and that did not change anything. The iPod Touch has the 2.0 firmware and is not jailbroken. Any ideas? I've tried googling but no one else seems to have this problem.

Apologies if it's been asked but this is a long thread. Switched from the Zune software to iTunes this week after getting a 1st gen iPod Touch and it was all going so well until I realised a whole bunch of my music was missing from my library. The Zune software was awful at times but at least it let me add all my music, drat. I've tried adding from the file menu and dragging/dropping but neither will work. I select the file or folder to add but absolutelt nothing happens, no error message, nothing. Strangely it seems to be specific albums that are affected rather than random individual tracks, but the albums in question seem to be tagged correctly, aren't corrupted, and aren't in any weirdly named directories or anyhting like that. I've contemplated editing the iTunes Music Library.xml file to try and add them manually but I don't know if it would work (plus the xml is pretty complex). I also looked for a 3rd party app to use instead of iTunes but none will sync with iTouches. Anyone have a solution for this?

FidgetyRat posted:Silly question, but are the files itunes compatible (meaning not wma or some microsoft derivitive?) Yes, all mp3, all fully tagged. You did make me think to try re-encoding a song to see if that would work, and luckily it did, 320kbps mp3 to 256kbps mp3. Although I really don't want to waste time and quality if there's a better way. Just making copies didn't, though. I'm no expert on media files so does anyone have a suggestion for a fast batch encoder? I mean really all I want it to do is to spit out the exact same file I input...but make iTunes work.

Before you go nuts re-encoding stuff, I would recommend trying a program called iTunes Library Updater (Google ITLU).

I wonder if you don't have some kind of corrupt id3 tags in those files. Maybe a format itunes is not familiar with and thus it can't read the meta data. Maybe try something to change the id3 format without having to actually re-encode the file.

Jet Grind Radio Shack posted:I tried that. Does it update the library silently because nothing seemed to be happening while it was 'updating' my library (other than opening iTunes) Either way it didn't add the tracks. Thanks for the advice though. Glad you got it working, but for info, if ITLU adds a song, there will be a message in the ITLU window, similar to "Adding C:<path>\songname.mp3"

I just got a 2G and have ordered Bodyguardz for it but also want a hard case for some protection in my backpack. Thing is, I do not want to get a clear plastic case because the screen will be exposed and damaged so I am looking for a case that has cover at the front too. Something like this: Ebay has some for sale but I am having a hard time believing its for the 2G (no picture for the volume control). Any reasonably priced recommendations?

I picked up the Griffin Tuneflex, which holds the Touch and charges it. Not that great of a product because if it bounces too much the Touch will disconnect from it.

I noticed this as well. I have mine "disconnect" at least once per day during commuting. They definitely didn't make the dock part long enough. They should have included the little gripper arms that all other dock connectors use that spread apart inside the ipod once the plug is connected. Still, its a minor inconvenience. Its just nice to finally have a dock in my car again that actually fits and charges the 2G

Any car chargers/FM transmitters yet that will let me keep it docked and transmitting while not charging, and then charge when I feel like it? I don't want to charge my iPod until it's low battery, and my old car charger for my old iPod RUINED the battery by always keeping it fully charged.

The case is comfortable to hold and will protect against scratches although you may want to be careful about dropping it. I love mine and won't be looking for a different case anytime soon.

Yeah, I'm using my 1st gen case for my 2nd gen touch. it's just like the one pictured, same manufacturer, but the sides aren't covered - it's just two leather straps on each side. The volume button's covered by one of the straps, but that only makes it easier to find where it is, I reckon. Fits nicely, too.

Has anyone else noticed a problem when updating album art on songs already synced onto the device? Whenever I've tried this, all looks normal in iTunes, but on my iPod I have a half loaded - sometimes non-existant album art. Any solutions that don't involve deleting the song and re-syncing it?

Yeah, Touch's Safari can do cookies, so you only have to log in once. I did run into a bug once where Safari simply refused to save any cookies. I had to restore it back to default, and it fixed itself.

I just got done looking through some apps they have in the "apps store" via Apple's website. Wow, I had no idea there were so many. Can most of the apps work with the iPod Touch, or are they mostly geared toward the iPhone? I'm specifically wondering about the weather, maps, news, and stock apps. Can I simply download those from the apps store as opposed to jailbreaking?

I recently got a second-gen iPod Touch, and I've having some issues with album art. I just tried to do what Dr. Video Games posted, but in iTunes I cannot switch to views other than just the song list when viewing my ipod. The other buttons and options in the view menu for album view and such are greyed out. Is this normal? After years using Winamp for managing my ipods, it's frustrating to have to use iTunes... Edit: I figured out the album art issue, though I still can't view the ipod music in views other than the straight song list. lshu fucked around with this message at 08:01 on Nov 18, 2008 |

If you are looking at particuar apps on the App Store, choose an app and look over on the right side of the screen. Below the app description, there'll be a section called "Requirements", which will either say "Compatible with iPhone" or "Compatible with iPhone and iPod Touch". quote:I'm specifically wondering about the weather, maps, news, and stock apps. Can I simply download those from the apps store as opposed to jailbreaking? Not sure if you're thinking of any app in particular, but the ones called "Weather", "Maps", and "Stocks" come pre-loaded on a Touch (or, if it's an old touch, they're included with the software upgrade you have to purchase to be able to use the App Store).

The website is a little tricky to navigate but you need to look out for the "Start Downloading SUPER © (or to that effect)" links ONLY in different fonts/sizes and go through about 3 pages before they finally tell you "Download SUPER © setup file from official site #" There are a tonne of ads and links on the site. I tried to link you to the last page directly but it does not work. Also, the converted files go to the "Output" folder in the program folder. It took me forever to locate my files the first time I used it. But it is free and it works well.

for any PC users who want to escape Itunes, the new version of Media Monkey supports the Ipod Touch. It does everything Itunes does apart from Genius and it does it A HELL of a lot better. You need to keep Itunes installed to be able to sync, but you'll never have to touch it until the next firmware update comes along (which will probably break Media Monkey).
