SteelWav posted:How's the RM1X so far? I don't know a lot about it. It's overwhelming. I'd be screwed without the manuals. Toying around with it at the moment, it has spent many years in the studio and in clubs - I can tell. I want to clean it up and make it less sticky to the touch. I swear I can smell a faint trace of vomit. I loaded up some example patterns and quickly learned how it works when playing, insanely good sequencer. On this particular machine the cutoff knob is a bit sloppy, the buttons on the bottom feel mechanically sticky and slow, still surprised I got this for 100€. So good. With a midi out keyboard you have a a not too shabby sound module, and that's going to be my next purchase before I get that sweet sampler. And it's also huge. I love it. edit: One day later, I understand it even better. Gone through the manual, fiddled around. Learned how to use it with the MB33 bass synthesizer, which is a nice piece of equipment. Really need midi keyboard input to make it more fun because of the sluggish keys. The DDD5 meanwhile is fun, I know how to play and record patterns and songs and save them but not how to do step sequencing. It's likely to be sold if I need money because of how much of a bother it is. This edit reply window has been up for over an hour now because I've been learning how to use the machine and had so much fun creating this beat. I'd gladly have paid $250+ for it used, if it sounds like it has what you want (sequencing, synths, being a single "everything in one" machine, beatbox thingamajig, go for it before someone else takes it). It rocks. Ghosts n Gopniks fucked around with this message at 16:46 on Dec 17, 2008 |

Is that a UB802 mixer? How do you like it? I was thinking of grabbing one to allow me more inputs to my 2880 looper and an FX loop to each instrument (which the 2880 sadly lacks), but the $50 makes me question the quality.

"Behringer" should make you question the quality Signal to noise ratio could be a lot better - speaking as a guy who actually likes heavily distorted hardcore electronic. The build is nice and tight, if there's a glitch then it's in a cable or something inserted into a socket, I defend it by saying it was the cheapest thing I could get hold of at the time, and now I know better. Other than that it's cool, no complaints and once I get tired of it there's a nice collection of knobs and sockets to salvage. It's up to your wallet and what's on offer. Haven't seen any UB at the store for some time, it's been replaced by the Xenyx series which may or may not have better components and equipment compared to UB, I don't quite trust their PR.

From what I can tell, the Xenyx is the exact same mixer with a $10 markup. I wish there was an ~4 channel mixer not made to be used specifically with decks that offered low noise, a per channel FX loop, and mute switches...

I was broke for two weeks but holy poo poo its fun just lifting this loving thing because of how absurdly light weight it is. Waiting on my Rockbass corvette which will be coming soon since the t-bird is a bit too large/heavy for stage use.

One Arm Manny posted:I really like the look of your T-Bird. Thanks. It seems to get a lot of attention thanks to the color (which I mixed myself, pretty much). Guitar-building friend made it for me since Gibson dont produce left handers (I even called them and asked if they could make me a custom and they gave a flat out no). Its an oversize (around 1" bigger in all angles) and about 1.6x as thick as a regular T-bird.Thru-Neck, Schaller bridge, Bartolini hand wound pickups. Since it was his first bass its got a lot of prototype work on it, such as using coachwood (really drat heavy) and it had some really complex wiring (had 3 push/pull knobs, downgraded later to just 3 - tone, vol, vol due to reliablity issues). The neck is kind of soft and the truss rod doesnt really allow it to get adjusted too well without the strings buzzing and the paint is really easy to damage (and there are no cases big enough to fit it). Its a great bass but its too big and heavy to play on stage, so im getting a rockbass. itll probably come along as backup though.

I took back that M-Audio Project Mix I/O for store credit and got the following: Tascam FW-1082 (on order, to arrive next week) Furman PL-PRO Series II Power Conditioner Ableton Live 7 Then I met up with Pennywisdom and we did a little trade ***to be updated with picture at a later date because i'm tired and need like 12 hours of sleep before go to the snowboardng* Also I'll have one of each of these soon: When I was talking to the assistant manager at Mother's Music I was offered a job because of the ideas I was explaining to him about this whole MIDI guitar shebangle. But he couldn't match what I make now and I'd have to move to Calgary. gently caress that. Also I came up with the idea of using a MIDI guitar to control a lightshow instead of sounds, but my friends thought it was dumb sooo.... But really, watch that guy with the noiseless guitar on stage making the lights whirl around! No? drat XYZAB fucked around with this message at 03:26 on Dec 20, 2008 |

My uncle was over the other day, and got to talking about how he got a sick hockey table/game thing for free off craigslist and it got me thinking about looking outside my normal craiglist page, and what do I find but a Korg DDD-1 for $50 and a Yamaha Electone BK-20C for $50. And I only had to drive an hour! Korg DDD-1: This one is circuit bent but its the best image I could find, this thing is nasty. I'm able to put together some really nice 80s style beats, Electro is easy to do too. Yamaha Electone BK-20C This is also not my picture, but its the same one, minus the bench. This thing also sounds amazing, and I'm still finding new sounds on it. Bonus: It's fully electric, no moving parts or tubes. It never goes out of tune hell yeah.

Worst of all, I'm scared I like the rough tone from my lovely, old Yamaha Pacifica more than the bright, treble-y tone of the JEM. Maybe I just need to play around with my amp settings, or get non-cheapo amp. e: however, the JEM is oh so drat playable. The thinner neck is more of a plus than I thought it would be before I picked it up for the first time, and the feel of it drives me to play way more than I used to. This isn't a picture of the ACTUAL keyboard I just bought (can't remember where I put my camera) , but... $400. I repeat. $400. It has its issues (wee bit o' distortion and crackle), but I'm replacing the output jack, cleaning up some connections, adjusting the action. MIGHT need to replace a transformer, but I'm about $40 in parts and ~12 hours of labor away from having a pristine Wurli 200. Not 200a, but 200. Today is a good day.

Since I'm transitioning from an analog to a digital guitar setup, and since my wife is going to need something to make noise with once her present comes in (January-ish, and I'm definitely going to post that cool thing up here when it finally comes - she tried to make it with electric basses, and I even bought her a shorter scale fretless in an attempt to give her back some of the feel, but she's a double bass player at heart and misses bowing, so I decided to make something happen)... Also, now maybe my review jam tracks can have some bass. Or, for that matter, my reviews can feature bass comparisons, since the other two companies' software have at least some kind of bass amp(s) too.

I had absolutely no intention on buying any new guitars for awhile, but I stumbled on a couple clearance deals that brought these two to my door (pictured in front of some of the rest of the fleet)- On the left is my new Gretsch Americana 3/4 scale acoustic - plays awesome for the $30 shipped it cost me. On the right is my Ibanez AFS75, which is officially the the best-playing $200 guitar I've ever laid hands on (and I'd say worth way more).
