It's funny, the first time I heard mention of ska was in a Mission Hill episode, and now it's an all-consuming love. However, I post to right a great wrong, why has no one mentioned Upstanding Youth?

Listen to their EP, 'Kam Highway Catharsis' it is fantastic

Same here. Then I managed to obtain a copy of Everything Goes Numb and decided this was the greatest thing ever.

Also, as far as I'm concerned, The Beatles are ska.

He probably means Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da, which has some ska/reggae elements and is classified on wikipedia as ska, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ob-La-Di,_Ob-La-Da.

But that's really the only rationalization I can see

in that song I always imagined when he said Desmond, he meant Desmond Dekker and I'm not sure he doesn't...! And of course we ALL know that Desmond Dekker is a Jamaican ska/reggae legend, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desmond_Dekker.

Nothing can compete with Streetlight's Everything Goes Numb. Its a scientific fact that is the greatest ska album known to man. The only thing closer is maybe Mad Caddie's Keep It Going, or any Sublime album. And i'm going to see Streetlight Manifesto this coming friday in Toronto!! SOOOO excited!!

Everything Goes Numb and Somewhere in the between would be 1, 2 in ska albums probably. Even Keasby Nights, both Catch-22's original, and streetlights remake(which is better than catch-22's version) is up there.

Hahaha, nooo way. Not even close. If we're gonna talk best third wave albums... Stomping on Down Beat Alley by Skapara, Wind Up Toys by Capdown, Life of the Party by The Planet Smashers, The Resignation by RX Bandits, and Shed Some Skin by Slow Gherkin.

I would definitely put Keep It Going up there, though.

These are really loving good.

I like Before You Knew Better by Edna's Goldfish , The Fury of the Aquabats by The Aquabats (obviously), and there HAS to be a Bosstones album on this list but there are like 3 I can't choose between.

Also Upbeats & Beatdowns by Five Irony Frenzy is like 75% one of my favorites but there are a few songs that keep it off the list for me.

I really don't want to add them to the list but pretty much every Less Than Jake album Anthem and before except for Losers, Kings... (I count B is for B Sides in this as well) and Turn the Radio Off be Reel Big Fish are really good.

I think that Rump Shaker by Suburban Legends is really good. Not on this level of good, but I think a lot of people don't like them because of their disco-ness now and their dancing gimmick so they write this album off.

Wait do you want top three without Streetlight or just top three

Without Streetlight it's probably (in no order) Fury of the Aquabats, Turn the Radio Off, and Energy

With Streetlight, it's SitB, Everything Goes Numb, Energy

Any 916 ska-goons out there going to see the SID4 show this Saturday at the Boardwalk? Some bandmates, friends and I will be there, so look for the guy at the bar pounding Budweisers during the opening band's set. Ugh, Punch the Clock. We would have opened if Todd hadn't dropped the ball.

Okay see I'm not a fan of the band, so I don't agree with you. The rest of their discography is not enjoyable to me at all. Wind Up Toys is the only album of theirs I can stand and it just so happens to be an incredible album from start to finish. I can't skip a single track. And that includes the b-sides. Serious Is Not a Sin shouldn't have even been removed from the tracklist.

I love the sound, love it. Explosive punk with dark, grinding, crunchy-as-gently caress ska guitar hooks. The saxophone flows throughout the songs and fits snugly, instead of feeling like an abstract element in their past albums. The singer, who is extremely annoying and nasal in the rest of their discography, has a much better tone and lacks the sharp ear-melting treble.

Good show tonight, Monkey and Deal's Gone Bad were excellent as usual. The Toasters actually had a better set than I expected. I've heard from bandmates and others from the local scene that they are mostly assholes and hate playing in California, but I didn't get that impression tonight. The opening band was about as bad as I expected, no surprise there. And, I almost hate to admit it, but I actually ditched out a couple songs into Voodoo Glow Skulls' set. I just wasn't feeling the punk ska vibe tonight.

Streetlight show last night was awesome. The Stitch Up did a cover of La and Dan brought a random dude up from the crowd to play it. "Here's the chords, play these in a vaguely ska-like fashion." Plus he gave the kid a chance to bust out an awesome solo. "Just play watever the hell you feel like man."

Easily the second best part of the show, right after Streetlight's entire set. Opened with We Will Fall Together, closed with Somewhere In The Between. It was actually a fairly decent mix of SitB, Everything Goes Numb, and they even did It's A Wonderful Life

Kinda didn't want to hear the Linoleum cover but whatever

Also there was acid going around in teh crowd.
