We are having paper flowers for bouquets and table decorations - we are getting married in 2 days - and are still making flowers.

Just be aware that you have lots to make, and dont bank on other people helping, as the folks who are "helping" us, took our ideas and did their own stuff to them, so its not really our's plan, its what they want to do.

Then again, I completely understand not wanting to do DIY in order to save time and if you're not crafty. Worst part about my love of DIY is that I love crafting, but I suck at it. :downs:

I'm hand making ours. I had her get a list of all the invitations she likes and I am taking little ideas from each and doing all the vector work myself..

Not sure how to go about printing them yet.. But i'm not planning anythign super fancy.. I would love somewhere that does wax transfer printing as it produces clean bubbly text and colors, but can't find a good printer.. Odds are I'll just have it color printed at kinkos or something on some nice paper.

That's very sweet!

Why don't you print them on a home printer (assuming you have one)? It would probably save A LOT of money and will most likely turn out looking completely fine.

I would, but the printer I have is a pretty old color laser and the color reproduction is OK at best. Its developer cartridge is also a bit worn out and runs a slightly darker stripe down the center.. Can't complain, the thing ran me $50 on an office auction with extra toner and everything..

Ill probably do at least one at home to see how it looks. It may surprise me, especially on non-white or slightly textured paper.

My step-mom had hers done at Kinkos, and it turned out pretty nice. I'd suggest sorting out the printer issue sooner rather than later, since they'll all have their own specifications for layout and bleed, and it can be a pain to adjust that after everything else is done.

I was originally going to try to do a lot more myself, but I ended up getting a lot of help from Etsy. I'm making table numbers, escort cards, a card box (which turned out really well!) and probably programs. It feels like just the right amount of DIY for me - not so much that I'm stressed out, but not so little that I feel like I'm uninvolved.

One nice thing about working in vectors.. Very easy to resize without any loss in quality. poo poo I forgot about all the other little stuff like table cards, etc.. Maybe I can reuse some of the vector components on those things as well...

Dimension wise, I think I found out that 7x5 seems to be standard for invitations (should then be easy to find envelopes).. Plus 2 can be printed per 8.5x11 piece of paper which is nice.

I'm in Canada, but from what I've seen, ABSOLUTE most would be 2k. Like absolute absolute. I would say 1500 is a better price range, you should be able to get a nice diamond in a white gold prong setting for that much. I've seen way cheaper but it's best to high ball (which is why I say 2k absolute).

Ok. I had to register another account because my girlfriend that I am going to propose to reads SA :tinfoil:. I'll try to be as anonymous as possible.

Anyway I am looking for sources where I can get a Princess cut diamond loose for cheaper. I am planning on going to a place where I can fabricate the ring myself(with some instruction of course) and set the stones.

I plan on having a princess in the middle, with 2 emeralds flanking it. I spoke to the dude who runs the shop, and with my budget of doing all of this, it leaves like 400 total for all of the gems. Way too little I think. He directed me to bluenile.com, but Im not convinced that they are the best price. Im looking for an average quality cut and such stone. After looking at like 1/2 carat to 3/4 carat, it almost looks like I'm going to have to spend upwards of a grand for a loose stone :(.

Anyone got tips on what I should be doing/looking for? I am a total retard in this regards.

Jems posted:

I'm sorry I know this is like 4 pages back but I had to ask, just out of curiosity, and honestly no offense is meant by this at all, and I REALLY do actually mean that. If you are so broke, why are (were) you in such a rush to get married? I am probably about your age, and it's mind boggling why there is such a rush for so many people to do this.

Does anyone else feel that rush? Why? I don't understand that and it really tugs at my curiousity.

Just as you didn't mean to offend (and I'm not offended, BTW), I don't want to be the "well my love is better than your love" guy. The thing really is, though, that we are in love. We didn't get married out of any sense of obligation to one another or ourselves, we did it because we wanted it. I consider myself extremely lucky to have found, at such a young age, the person I want to spend my life with. The woman I want to make plans with, the woman I want to bear my children, the woman I want to see every day for the rest of my life. Of course people give me goofy looks when they find out I'm married. And they treat me like I'm an idiot, and that I'll look back on this with regret. I don't give a drat, because it gives me an incredible sense of pride to be her husband, and (trite as this sounds) at the end of the day, hers is the only opinion that I really care about. So trust me when I say we didn't feel rushed, because hell, it's not like either of us were going anywhere. But I love her, and I always will, so why shouldn't I marry her?

As for the money thing, I think that while expensive weddings may be considered more traditional, you shouldn't have to be rich to get married. Having a savings or fancy jobs is not a prerequisite. On the other hand, this wasn't a marriage of convenience, either -- we've lived together and had the same bank account for years (since we were 19, to be exact).

Now that I've gotten the emotional stuff out of the way, I'll get down to brass tacks. There is definitely a certain stigma to the whole "married in college" thing, and it doesn't exist without reason. For most people, college is this honeymoon period between childhood and adulthood, which is why most people say it's the best 4 years of your life -- you have all the freedom and independence of living on your own with none (or almost none) of the responsibilities. College kids are, for the most part, a lazy bunch of self-entitled whiners.

That isn't the case for us -- due to a variety of very serious circumstances (that aren't really my place to broadcast on the internet), the two of us don't have that life. We were forced to grow up extremely fast, and we are a far cry from what someone might expect of people our age. We aren't going to graduate and have our worlds turned upside down by life in the real world, because frankly, we've always lived in it. So again, as for the people who guffaw and go "But, but you're so young," I just don't give a gently caress. I can't. Because they don't know me, or my situation, or my love.

Sorry. That got long winded and a bit like a tirade at the end, but I really didn't take offense to your question. Like I said, I know my circumstances are unusual, so it's natural to be curious.

That ring is awesome. The stone looks like raspberry jam!

I made our invitations. Most of them were being sent by international mail to people who I could never expect to come to the ceremony so I just did postcards. My friend did a vector image of islands with shimenawa, and I stamped the cloud with gold paint. We printed them on his family's home printer- Japanese printers are all specialized for postcards. The black isn't as deep as I'd've liked but they got scuffed during mailing anyway. The reverse side has a happy message and a link to our homepage.

I'm going for a birdcage veil, with a feather/barrettey bit to hold it in. And some pearls. We obviously haven't sat down to really plan this yet. We just plan on hand sewing to a barrette comb, though.

Oh. Will there ever be photos.

So, our wedding plans have totally changed! We're now (nonlegally) eloping and honeymooning in Barcelona on March 3rd! We've hired a photographer and makeup artist from the U.K. to fly in, we plan to purchase a little cake at a local bakery and I'll get my bouquet at the flower market. We've narrowed the locations down to two parks. We're writing our own vows and having a wine ceremony to incorporate our families. Flights are booked, hotels are booked and we're also taking cooking classes and seeing a few shows. It's going to be lovely!

My fiance is immigrating from the U.K. to the U.S. and we just got his visa interview date today, which officially allows him to come live in the States. So our legal courthouse wedding will take place on Friday March 13th! We got engaged on a Friday the 13th, so the timing is superb.

Then we're throwing two big receptions-one in England and one in the U.S. The U.S. one is going to take place over Christmas 2009 and we've just started working on stuff for it. Save the dates are finished and after-Christmas clearance sales at Michaels have been incredible. It will be a classy wintery celebration. I'm so excited!

And for those of you looking for unique ring ideas, we wanted to get a great ring on a budget and this is what we ended up with. I get so many compliments on it, and it cost much less to buy many small stones than to buy one large center stone. I didn't want him to spend too much on it, but I also didn't want to feel like we were settling. My rings are perfect and I adore them.

That type of prong-less setting is called a bezel setting. The diamond shape is marquise, and I believe that is what they call an east-west setting. The "normal" thing would be a north-south setting, where the pokey ends of the diamond are lined up parallel to your fingers when wearing it.

I like the east-west setting. I think it makes marquise stones look modern and sleek instead of 1980s-ish!

My bridesmaids finally decided on their dress design! The only parameters I gave them were that it had to be a knit dress (no way am I undergoing extensive fittings for them on top of my dress!), and they had to choose the same pattern. Luckily, both of them have similar body types so picking a pattern that suited them both was relatively easy!

It's from Burda WOF magazine 09/08 #132, the Gant Exclusive Design dress...

There's more talk about it on my sewing site if anyone fancies hearing more.

PS: Could someone, anyone please tell me what the last acceptable posting date for wedding invites is? I think my question got lost on the previous page.

Very good choice on the dress! I believe 6 weeks notice is acceptable, but that only counts if your guests are local. For someone who needs to travel, you need to give more notice than that.

I don't have personal experience with them, but the ladies at Weddingbee all seem to swear by J Crew for their bridal parties. So I expect the quality is generally pretty good. And that's a lovely dress.

Well, the bridal bouquet is an okay place to be creative, since people expect it to be a bit different and stand out from the rest of the flowers. We're doing gerbers for all the wedding flowers, but green mums as well in my bouquet.

But if you're not a big fan of the colour, maybe you could use yellow roses somewhere else in the wedding? I don't know what the significance is for you, but you could have a special arrangement with them somewhere relevant (if it's related to your spouse-to-be, maybe on the table where you'll sign your license, or if it's in memorial to someone, on a table with photos of loved ones, or even something as simple as an embroidered yellow rose on a handkerchief or something?).

Very cute site! Layout and info is great. I had problems bringing up the pictures - it was just say loading at the top and nothing would come up. I had to refresh the page to get back.
Same here, also the font on your most recent post about group rates is jacked up - it's times new roman and then switches to a sans-serif halfway through the post. I'm guessing this is done in a WYSIWYG editor cause if you look at the source code it looks like maybe you just copy-pasted it in and the style from Microsoft Word got added in as tags on every single line.

edit: VVV I have Firefox too, so not sure what's up.

I didn't have any trouble with the pictures. Maybe it's a browser problem? I have Firefox.

are you that mainframe hacker guy?

Yeah, the fonts in one section are jacked up, wordpress took the formatting from word literally. Also, the pictures, thats weird.

But thanks for the input.

Any time you see Delekhan post, make this face and tell him how much he owns.

Good to know, thanks. And just as a heads up, Ultra Diamonds had 20% off all their products right now, plus an extra $50 off anything you buy in one of their stores ($99 and up). I was gonna get my ring online but with those discounts I can get a pretty nice 1/2 carat for about $600, so I don't see any good reason why I shouldn't do just that.

Hmm is this actually a good deal? I might have to check it out.

JCrew dresses are lovely! I just bought their Sophia bridesmaid one in ivory for my after-elopement legal ceremony. It's so soft and fits perfectly.

Also, here is a picture of my engagement ring. Its white gold with an andalusite. The picture shows the engagement ring and wedding ring together. I have no idea how much he spent on it, but I made him promise not to break the bank over it.

I know this is like the third or fourth time on this page alone, but drat is that beautiful.

That's both rings together, huh? What do they look like separate?
