If anything, I actually rank 2 slightly higher than 4, 5, and 6, because at least the overwhelming homoerotic subtext was interesting, and the pool massacre/"Coming Out" scenes were fantastic. I wasn't that into part four comparitavely, but all of the Nightmare flicks are decent timewasters. Edit: Was it part four that had the "Time Loop" scene? Because if so, I will concede that that's one of my favorite scenes in the whole series as well.

Just watched New Nightmare again last night. I think as a movie in general, it is right behind the original Nightmare as the best in the series. As a horror/slasher movie, I'd put it behind the first and third. I love the different direction it takes the series and all the callbacks to the other films, but the first hour or so is kind of dull. I haven't seen Nightmare 4 all the way through in at least 10 years, so I'm going to rewatch it this weekend and see where I would put it in relation to the others. And I am one of those who thinks Friday the 13th Part 4 is the best in the series. It has the most gruesome kills, is one of the few in the series that is intentionally funny at times, and has that awesome Crispin Glover dancing scene.

Yep, Nightmare 4 was the one where Alice was trying to rescue her friend from being killed (the one that got turned into a roach and crushed), and she kept driving in a loop, and couldn't get out of it. It was essentially pre-Deep Blue Sea in tone (also directed by Renny Harlin). 5 and 6 gave minimal deaths on top of being not interesting at all and having really stupid parts. 4 gave us: Freddy being resurrected by a dog peeing fire on his grave Drowning in bed Pizza with the faces being the toppings Girl turned into roach and smashed in roach motel "Suck face" kill in the middle of class. Time loop sequence Probably the best final showdown against Freddy with Alice having Megamanned all her friends' powers Good overall direction and camerawork and decent acting 5 was: Weird, annoying direction with weird tilted or close in camera angles One good, imaginative sequence (comic book guy vs. Super Freddy) An irritating plot about a baby and Freddy feeding off of souls 6 was: stupid "Now I'm playing with power!" stupid 3D sequence What made NOES4 entertaining was that at that point, there was nowhere to go except "more deaths and creative dream sequences," and 4 exceeded expectations, while every one after that fell far short of 3, much less 4. 3 was a notch better than 4 because it was still a bit dark in tone and had that whole role playing game feel to it.

Other controversial actors should take these kinds of roles. Like, I'd go and see Tom Cruise films if I he acted like himself through most of the movie and then got a cleaver in the face. I probably would have enjoyed Jerry MacGuire if there was a face/cleaver scene in it somewhere. Man, I might have sat through Twilight if that Robert Pattinson kid got a cleaver in the face towards the end. Actually, no ... Twilight is the exception. I noticed last night that at two of my local stores, they completely sold out of a good pile of the reissues of the first Friday and the sequel. There were lots of Part IIIs around though. That's weird, I always liked Part III, even with its faults, and I was excited to get a 3D version of it on DVD (and for those that haven't bought it -- the glasses themselves are hilarious by the way: they are made to look like Jason's mask, with the little red detail between the eyes and everything). The documentary was almost untouched at both stores. Oh well. I've heard nothing but good things about it.

I really should watch The Dream Child again because I recall when I first saw it I was really pissed off there were only 3 deaths in the film. I think I had just seen Jason Lives where the death toll is stupidly high so Freddy was always tarnished after that. Now? Now I think of the bike scene and I think it's loving awesome. I just wonder if the whole film will live up to Freddy melding a dude into a loving bike.

But, no, The Dream Child is kind of hurt by its claustrophobic/weird cinematography and general lack of stuff going on and bores me every single time. Halloween 5 had the exact same problem (on top of Michael crying, which was one of the worst things I've seen in a slasher).

To bring this discussion back to Friday the 13th, the majority of reviews sent into AICN were positive. This gives me great glee and hope. The one review on Rotten Tomatoes is one of those "IT'S A CLASSIC FOR A REASON RAAAAAAAAAAAARGH" so he didn't seem to like it much. I'll be interested to see how it fairs on the horror film sites.

So I finally got to seeing My Bloody Valentine last weekend, and what amazingly cheesy goodness that was. Just got back from an advanced screening of Friday the 13th in Columbus, OH. Jason is brutal in this one. I don't think he looked as big as Hodder but he was pretty imposing. The kills are great, gore hounds will not be disappointed. There's a few that I don't know how they got past the censors given F13's history. A few are heading in the torture porn territory. Also jump scares...everywhere, and all are predictable. But overall I liked it. Oh also more tits than part 4. If your wondering about Jason having teleportitis yes Anyway for those that see it, kill discussion: loving Asian guy getting the screw driver slowing jammed into his throat! How the hell did that scene last so long? 20 years ago it would have been cut down for sure. Also the sleeping bag scene, jesus christ! Jason never really let his victims linger before like that. Also I would add the axe to the back of the token black guy and letting him sit there and suffer to draw the others out. The many eyeball gouges where loving great though. Also the machete through the deck to the topless chick was loving amazing. I cant say any of the kills disappointed me.

Back from an advanced screening and I can't say that I really liked it at all and I'm a huge Voorhees nut. It really is a different movie. I guess if I never saw any of the other 13ths I might have enjoyed it but...eh. The writers obviously drew heavily from 3 and 4 which was a great idea, but I guess I just can't move on from those fun flicks I grew up with. This one is grittier and it's just not the Jason I grew up to. A fine horror movie on whole and the crowd seemed to enjoy it, but it just wasn't my cup of tea and it won't get a spot next to my boxed set.

You're forgetting machete to the neck (neck separates), fire poker? through the cops eye and out the back of the door (you could see brain matter hanging off the end), axe through the back of the black dude. Also the deaths where never allowed to linger in the older movies. I think all the recent torture porn flix relaxed the censors a bit. The screwdriver kill would have been a quick cut away in the 80's. There's no way I think the movie was perfect, it definitely had some pacing issues. The first 3rd of the movie could have been done much better. And it definitely didn't add anything new, which I think is going to disappoint the longtime F13 fans the most, but its a loving remake what do you expect.

Well I still think the DVD is going to come out with mega violent alternate versions like the girl getting her face mashed up in the rotor blades instead of just getting bonked on the head also i did remember all those kills but I just wasnt very impressed with them \/  \/and Friday teen girls shouldnt look like porn stars in their 30s that they hired just because theyd get their boobs out easily imho. also the main three white dudes have almost the exact same medium length hair that flips off at the sides and its totally hilarious when two of them are arguing at the gas station. According to Devin at Chud they shot 2 versions of every kill scene so I'm sure they'll all be on the DVD. And as mentioned earlier, the films previously have never really been allowed to linger on the deaths, they were always made to cut away as quickly as possible. So while the older ones may have been gorier, they were also truncated (Seriously, some whizz by in a flash and it's clearly not a film making decision).

The girls where unrealistic but im not going to complain. I still think if they cut the first part shorter they could have gone for some more character development. Its hard to get attached to any of the characters or care when they die. Doesn't the Asian guy call everyone cliches at one point?
