I got it a couple weeks ago, but I got a Schecter Stiletto Classic in Amber Satin Finish. My loving employee discount is killing me. Or, it would be, if the prices I got things for weren't as obscenely good as they are. No actual pictures of it yet, but it is easily in the top 5 for best-looking tops on Stiletto Classics I've seen (which has been alot). Crazy flames in the middle, and spalt and burl anywhere that isn't flamey. The bridge on these is easily, in my preference, the best double-locking bridge ever.

I loving love this guitar, though. It's quickly become one of my favorite axes. Smooth as butter and impossible to knock out of tune when properly set up. The newer ones are pretty good too- I liked the edge pro, and my axe has an edge zero on it which absolutely never ever goes out of tune. It's pretty amazing. I just wish the counter springs were more adjustable- otherwise it's perfection.

I'm posting this because there seems to be the most gear heads in this thread, plus I'll edit in pics in a second. I just got a Jackson Dinky with EMG HZ active pickups. I'm trying to put my emg 81 in the bridge but there is a problem. The stock HZ has 5 wires, and its labeled as such, Green: 1- White: 1+ GROUND Red 2- Black 2+ So 5 wires hooking to it to it, it has 5 prongs for the connector. Well my EMG-81 is only a 3 prong with White Black and Red. The connector for the HZ actually would fit right in the middle of the 81, so the Black and Green got skipped. Is this right? Basically match the black on the 81 to the ground and the white to the white and red to red and ignore the Black and Green? So far it's not working, one way not at all and the other way really quiet. What do I need to do about the extra two(Green and Black(not ground)) wires that are in the stock Jackson if my EMG-81 only has 3 spot? EDIT: WTF. Apparantly the EMG HZ is a passive pickup.....but it looks like an active and there is a battery in my guitar? Maybe it used to have actives, it is a used guitar. UGH. Bought a new keyboard stand today. Learned my lesson by buying a double X stand this time, instead of the single. Even just looking at my old one, it looks flimsy. This one can support my weight (I tried it, twice) so holding up a 10 pound moog will be no problem. I also bought accessories and cleaning stuff I just put off for years. I shudder to think how much sweat has added up on my bass. I shudder again as I can't remember the last time I cleaned it. I definitely haven't cleaned it 3 months before, and 3 months after I threw up on stage. Oh my god. Edit: Hoooooooly poo poo I forgot how much better my Jag gets when I polish the fretboard and the body. The chrome on the black is almost loving blinding. Also, I've never really played much with that guitar all, I'm afraid all the chrome will probably blind people. Noise Machine fucked around with this message at 06:16 on Feb 15, 2009 |

The last post was a pretty crummy post that didn't explain anything about the Jason Becker, so I'm re-posting for the sake of making a better introduction of the pedal. ProTone Jason Becker Distortion - Analog amp modeling in a pedal First, this is the picture of the pedal I got. They've changed the graphic to a different painting by his dad for the newer run of the pedals, I actually really like this graphic because of how the control colors correspond to the "elemental" association of the colors behind them, and the Burn and Drive controls are touching the fire and water, respectively. But the new ones look good too, and they're probably closer to Becker's general aesthetic style (check out his Peavey with its child-like appearance, he lived a great sense of humor in everything he did). If you don't know Jason Becker's story, you ought to head over to the wikipedia entry on him, it's sad, poignant, and inspiring - I won't cheapen his life by giving a "short version" here. The pedal is made by Dennis, the sole proprietor of the Protone pedal company, and part of the proceeds go to Jason Becker's family and causes. I've had it in for a day or two now from FuzzHugger, and while I'm reserving a full review for the edition-after-next of FrugalGuitarist, I wanted to bring a killer pedal to your attention. The goal is pretty common, I guess - make a Marshall in a box. In this case, it's aiming for an analog miniaturized solid-state recreation of the amp Jason Becker used to record his early album Perpetual Burn, but with additional gain on tap to achieve some of the higher gain tones he was using towards the end of his playing and recording career. Well, okay, not even counting the official Marshall pedals to that end, that's the Box of Rock, Crunch Box, Plextortion, Hot British, etc., etc., etc. - there are tons of Marshallesque pedals. This one's different, though, in some important ways. First, all of the "volume" related controls on it have to do not just with output level but with the amount of crunch you get. The Master Volume on it behaves like an amp's master volume, increasing volume and then sort of reaching a maximum output point and past that increasing compression/distortion. It has a Pre-Amp gain control and a Drive control as well. All three of them interact to produce the final amount of distortion of the dirt side of the pedal. The other side of it is a class-A boost, very warm and clean, I love what it does to my single-coil strat (and to anything, really, it's a great boost). The boost has its own adjustable gain and is operable separate from the "amp" side of the pedal. I made a quick clip demonstrating it with my single-coil (Samarium Cobalt Noiseless-equipped) strat. For the FG review I'll have clips with a few different guitars of course. The control scheme seems a bit complicated at first glance, but it's straightforward once you get it into perspective. It's got a control layout like a relatively simple, single-channel amp with an overdrive pedal up front. So you've got your EQ section, Lows, Mid, Highs - that's clear, tweak it like an amp. Then you've got your Pre-Amp gain and Master Volume. Those are the amp's own controls. Then there's the overdrive pedal control, which is just called "Drive." The final control, "Burn," is the boost control, so it's really just a one-switch/one-knob boost that happens to be attached to the rest. It's easy to get the hang of if you've ever played an amp more complicated than the Valve Jr. Anyway, here's the clip, going for a "strat into a Marshall" tone. Also make sure to check out Rusty Cooley's shredderific demo at the FuzzHugger page, good lord that guy can wail. If my playing is, say, a 5/10, he's about a 20/10. Never heard any of his original stuff, though.

Yeah the HZs are passive so I'm not sure why there's a battery in there already. The EMG 81 wiring diagram is here: http://www.emginc.com/content/wiringdiagrams/0230-0014a%20%20%20H%2060%2081%2085.pdf As you can see, the connector for the 81 has only three slots, and with the arrow on the top the colour order should be red, black, silver (ie. silver is the bare wire). There are a number of different wiring diagrams but for a Dinky I think you'll probably be using #2 (1 volume, 1 tone, 1 HB in the bridge, and not using the pickup switcher cause you can't mix HZs and 81s to the best of my knowledge). HZ diagram's here: http://www.emginc.com/content/wiringdiagrams/EMG-H1-H4.pdf Personally I'd just take the opportunity to clean the whole cavity out and rewire everything neatly, but if you're not too confident soldering you should be able to reuse some of the connections that are there already (although, according to the diagram, you'll need a 0.1uF capacitor instead of the stock 0.047uF one). edit: hoep u got a stereo jack ... Hey I just bought this guitar from a pawn shop and I'm not sure what it is. It looks like a fender strat and it says Fender on the tuning pegs, but the headstock is weird-shaped and it's been painted, so it doesn't say anything on it. I know this shouldn't be the thread for this kind of stuff, but we don't have a gear suggestion thread that gets any traffic, so here goes: I'm looking for the kind of sound from Andy Timmons' track "Resolution" off the album with the same name (You can hear it at the Mesa/Boogie website in their factory tour video). I know Andy Timmons uses a Lone Star, but I've got nowhere near that kind of scratch. I guess I just like that warm overdriven sound. So I had my heart set on a Deville 410 Combo for a while now, and I'm getting ready to buy it through zZounds' Play as you Pay program in a month or so, but I want to know if there are any suggestions that would give me a similar sound to that track?

The Fender tuning pegs I can now see were put on aftermarket - there are extraneous screw holes in the headstock where the original pegs used to be. Mystery solved I guess!
