This movie didn't really use any quick cuts (Batman Begins) or purposely shaky shots (Bourne). The difference between this and the old ones was that it was shot more heavily in shadow, and the kills were "faster" (the older ones had lots of shots of Jason sloooooowwwwlly harpooning and the like). quote:More importantly, I was disappointed by the whole Texas Chainsaw Massacre elements thrown into the film, with the old houses filled with weird stuff (again, yeah -- I know that Jason builds a weirdo shrine in Part II, but it didn't look like a reused TCM set), Jason trapping somebody in the basement and tying her to a chain, and even the Leatherface head tilts when he confronts her. I agree with the set looking like TCM which I complained about. However, that's the Michael Meyers head tilt, which was stolen by Kane Hodder for Jason in 7. So you've got it all out of order. quote:I would have hoped that Nispel would have gotten it out of his system by now. Don't misunderstand me, I love the original TCM (and TCM2 -- and even Nispel's remake), but that doesn't mean that I want Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers to act like Leatherface and I don't go into every horror film hoping for a hideout that looks like Leatherface's hideout and weirdo hillbillies to be running around. I agree in execution. But to be fair, when you combine parts 1-4 of Friday the 13th, you -do- get a lot of those elements including hillbillies (you need Crazy Ralph, after all), shrines, etc. However, I didn't like them looking so much like TCM stuff, I agree.

I guess I'd say that the mansion in 2009 was a too lavish for the environment that the filmmakers were trying to create.

Not saying it wasn't lifted from Halloween, but it's definitely a recurring character trait and I was glad to see that it survived the reboot.

They're actually pretty much the same size in practice The difference in the two is essentially the idea of a summer home 25 years ago, and one now. This one has a more modern design and is on the water and "nicer." Don't get me wrong, I totally get your point. Aesthetically, it feels a lot different, even if, conceptually, it's essentially the same thing.

ok, i just saw it last night and here is my take: Pros - Lots of uber-hot boobs - pretty solid kills - lots of really hot boobs - characters that are straight up slasher-cliches but NOT winking at the camera doing it (rear end in a top hat boyfriend... i miss that character) - Jason is muy badass in it - Jason is still a ninja-teleporter Cons - plot holes, why would he choose to attack the house and wouldnt the rear end in a top hat bf have known about Jason considering it seemed like he's been to the house many times? And does Jason kill because of stolen pot? - bordered on torture/TCM territory with the girl chained up - didn't go all the way thankfully but still not good Basically it was good and satisfying but nothing great. It did capture the feel of an 80's slasher without being tongue/cheek and winking at the camera. I'd rank it my 3rd fave but it might grow on me with a repeat viewing (4,6 are my tops, then this, then FvJ, then F13 3-d, then Jason X....)

I don't think Leatherface really "counts" - he was gesturing all over the place and screaming and dancing around, so one gesture doesn't stand out, whereas Myers and Jason only do "one thing" that shows any thinking or emotion on their part. Nitpicky, I know, but that's why it's typically credited to Mike.

He's mentally retarded and he's always moving and rocking and tilting his head, there's never an emphasis on his head turning to the side. Wow...we're really debating B-movie characters tilting their heads to the side here, fellas.

Jason does the head tilt whenever he thinks he sees his mother, though I should watch Fv.J again to make sure. I enjoyed the callback to it though. I'm going to need to watch it again to decide my final opinion on it. I went into it focusing more on zombie Jason than human Jason, so the first half of the movie didn't sit right with me. I did enjoy that they showed about 5 different things he could kill with that he didn't use. It made it less formulaic in a good way.

It was funny because I knew going into the movie that there would be 13 kills and at that point I thought I had counted all of them already but then I realized that I had counted the sister from earlier in the film who we all were supposed to think was dead, and as soon as I realized my mistake the other girl gets offed.

Seeing this on Friday night at a theater right on the Philly waterfront was absolutely perfect. It would've been tough to find a crowd more into it. They lost their poo poo when the title screen came up 20 minutes in, and lost it again at Trent's girly scream. And any number of times between.

This is a movie that definitely benefited from being with the right audience.

I liked how Jason dodged the mallet the main guy swung at him instead of just standing there and taking the hit like so many horror villians And I feared the movie was gonna be poo poo when they made not one but two stereotypical black guy 'cuz I'm black aint it?' but luckily they steered clear of that poo poo for the rest of the movie.

I've watched the first six Jason movies, and I'm currently watching the 7th movie. The biggest issue I have is that he has super strength and gets shot like 15 times in part six, only for him to actually struggle to overpower Tommy at the end.

And I know I'm just watching them now for the first time so I'm sure I don't appreciate them as much as I probably would have had I seen them when they were brand new, but the remake just feels a lot stronger. I felt bored while watching the first few parts. I definitely saw potential for them to be awesome, but they just didn't seem to live up to the hype and didn't really hold my attention. I never felt bored while watching the remake, though. I guess it's just because it's new and pretty and easier to relate to, but I just had a hell of a lot more fun watching that one than the originals.
