For awesome, press 1.
My pics aren't good enough to warrant a thread, but today I rode from Columbia, SC to Greenville SC to see the 28th Annual Cycle World show.

I left about 8AM for the two hour ride up and it was around 34 degrees, which is to say rear end-bitingly cold. I learned that if you don't make sure your balaclava is pulled all the way down, it feels like someone's sticking a knife in your forehead.

I stopped to eat some barbecue before the show at Henry's in Greenville:

I talked to a guy there who said he's ridden a quarter million miles since he retired in 2003. This was his bike:

After which I continued on to the show. Bike parking was free:

Honda had the biggest area, including their new bike the Fury. I'm not really into cruisers, but there were a LOT of people interested in this bike:

They also had some cool little bikes for 8 year olds who are already better riders than I'll ever be:

They had lots of neat antique bikes on display, most of which I didn't recognize, except for a sweet Laverda and this Yamaha:

I finally got to touch a $72,000 bike, but the hot chick in the too-small Ducati shirt wouldn't let me sit on it. If you can believe it, this bike is even cooler in person:

I met a couple of people who make me ashamed to ride a bike, like Kevin Schwantz and Ricky Gadson:

I'm guessing this was a replica, but they still wouldn't let you sit on it.

Overall the show had lots to see, and the Arai factory guys were there to measure and fit me for a new helmet (been wanting one that didn't hurt after a couple of hours). I also picked up a Transition 2 jacket in Hi-viz yellow, and my friend commented several times on the ride home how much more noticeable I was. I froze my rear end off today, but it was worth it.

The M1 isnt a replica. It always makes the rounds every year. Last year in Seattle they had it on the ground and didn't even have it roped off. It was pretty fun fussing with the levers and looking it all over.

Hey I was actually at that show on Saturday. The Desmo and the M1 are gorgeous. Did you get to any demos? they said those filled up by 9AM.

The look of the desmo is nothing compared to how the thing sounds. The V4 and wacky firing order give it a truly unique and awesome exhaust noise.

A guy had one at a trackday I went to. On the power down the main straight it sounded like the apocalypse.

Unfortunately he lowsided it later in the day. Relatively light damage though - just a broken rearset, ground clipon, and cracked/ground bodywork.

Still, it was awesome to see one being used as intended, which seems rare for dukes in general, let alone a desmosedici.

No, it was over two hours' ride to get there, so I had no shot at a demo ride. I don't think they were demoing a Street Triple R anyway, which is the bike I'm most likely to buy next (I sat on the one at the show for about half an hour total and made vroom vroom noises, which got weird looks from the Triumph people).

Any idea on what camera they're using for the first fisheye shot of the guy doing a wheelie away from the group? Also thats one hell of a sturdy helmet cam on the white 675.

Been there done that. My second to last time at Jennings I lowsided halfway through T1 and really rung my bell. Didn't get knocked out, but came out of a fog in the hospital room. Not a good feeling at all.

Hopefully he has a speedy recovery!

Yeah some random road out there. I don't live in Sactown anymore and wasn't real big on the stunting thing anyway so never really went with them.

I'm glad your friend is recovering.

That video is a fantastic example of why it's best to crash at the track. He crashed and 30 seconds later there was a trainer worker standing over him, checking him out, and the ambulance and corner truck was out there asap. Track went cold immediately, no chance of someone asspacking him or target fixating on his bike....It's also a good example of why you should always attempt to make the corner. Yeah, you could end up rolling through real slow a gear too high, but you should always at least attempt to stay on the pavement, even if you think you're coming in too hot, a little bit of additional time to scrub speed can make all the difference in the world.

Make sure that he gets the bike checked out very carefully, too, that hit to the tire wall was really hard and there may be some damage to the frame that's not immediately apparent.

pr0zac, glad your friend is ok as well. I'm really happy to see people out having their fun in a (relatively) safe place. Headshake is a bitch.

It looked to me like they were all parked along the side of the road, watching people pull stunts along the road. There are a number of videos of guys loving up wheelies into the bikes parked on the side of the road though.

And it looks like the video got removed...not really a suprise, but too bad, considering how accurately it portrayed headshake.

Icon gear is really popular in the stunner crowd, who are the ones that typically tend to wad the poo poo out of their bikes at extralegal speeds on mildly twisty roads.

Looks like crash speed was closer to the 60-80mph range. Guy is still god drat lucky that he tumbled and didn't slide though. You lose a lot of speed from when you last glanced at the speedo to crashy times.

I went to see some indoor ice racing a few weeks ago in Springfield. It was some XiiR series, which I'd never heard of, that was quads and speedway bikes. Pictures aren't that great because of where I was sitting.

The track was just the ice rink in Springfield (Mass. Mutual Center?) with some mats and hay bales. It wasn't long enough for them to get speed up in my opinion.

I'm not a big fan of quads, but they were entertaining.

Especially when two got stuck together.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y34/ArgonDestroy/Bikes/XiiR/IMG_3446.jpg

Of course what I came to see was the bikes, since I had never seen speedway in person.

And then there was some half time show sponsored by some radio station with these guys trying to ride tricycles across the ice.

All together, it was kind of fun, but it could have been done much better. A few times it seemed like the guys in first would hold back or even let the other guys pass them.
