Here is a tough one. Between 1985-1989 or so I was playing a game at a friend's house who had an unknown computer and a monochrome monitor. I doubt it was a C64, more like a Spectrum, CPC or something more exotic but I can't tell. We played Boulderdash and he tried to load Ikari Warriors which did not work. There was also some space olympiad with different disciplines.

The game I'm looking for however was a shot 'em up where you would fly a dragon and breath fire. It had a medieval setting. The animations were really impressing me and the character you played (the dragon) was big and well animated when flapping its wings.

The following is very sketchy and probably wrong:
- You could upgrade your fire breath and make it longer.
- At some point into the game you would see a fair maiden with a cone-like hat.
- At a later level there were spider-webs (and spiders?).
- Later on there was also lightning (and clouds?).
- You could choose to fly to the left or to the right (I think).

It is not Dragon Breed or Saint Dragon or Dragon Spirit. I browsed some of the Spectrum/CPC games and couldn't find it. Perhaps someone remembers this.

I remember playing a very esoteric game along time ago on DOS. It came on a CD ROM and the premise was you had a space ship which could be upgraded and outfitted with various weapons and eventually upgraded to bigger ship types. You also had to recruit crew members and there were a lot of small arms and items the could be equipped with.

The goal of the game was to claim planets. When you landed on a planet you had to secure it by building a shield or beacon generator or something in each corner of the map, as well as killing off all the hostile aliens. You could also board enemy ships and capture them. During these parts of the game, the pathfinding was absolutely TERRIBLE and almost impossible to play.

While in your ship, you moved left/right and accelerated/decelerated with the arrow keys, and used the mouse to fire your weapons. When travelling between planets, you used a star map and were presented with a little cutscene of a generic ship going into hyperspace or some poo poo.

Anyways, my description is vague as is my memory of this old game, but hopefully someone out there remembers it. Sooner or later I plan on making an indie remake of the game.

I got one. It was about 1995, and on my friend's computer he had what I assume was a roguelike. It started off normal asking your name and race, class. I think it was based on dungeons and dragons for your skills. Str, Wis, Int, those ones. Then you'd just be dumped in a dungeon, viewed top down. I can't remember if it was ASCII or not though. Anyone remember?

EDIT: Oh yeah, when you got your skill levels, it was based on a simulated dice roll. If you didn't like them you could retry over and over forever. I don't know if that helps.

Yeah this could be a ton of things. There were a number of RPGs with similar mechanics in SSI's "gold box" series, including Forgotten Realms and Dragonlance games, but most (all?) were first-person. Are you sure it was top-down? Can you remember any more details?

It was definitely not first person. It had really basic top down graphics and, having recently played nethack for the first time and died a lot, I thought back to it and it was very very similar to a roguelike. Except for all the D&D stuff.

I've asked this a few times before in the other threads, but I've never found it. I remember it being a first-person RPG with rather colorful graphics (think almost pastels), the character display/inventory was in the upper right hand corner. I believe you had a party of 4, and you fought insects in a town. I remember some of the first few items you picked up: a stick, a slingshot, and a pair of shorts. I do remember it was a demo, I don't know if it was ever developed into a full game. I got it off of either Download.com or one of the other big download sites (I think the other I visited was named Softdisk? or something with soft in its name) back in either 1998 or 1999.

For the record: it's not any of the Wizardry or Might and Magic games, nor is it any of the games in Yendorian Tales series.

I have little hope for this, but here goes.

SNES kiddyish (maybe) Racing game I rented at some point in the early-mid nineties. I don't think it was mode7 style, because I think there were changes in altitude on some of the tracks and I don't think you could pull that off with mode 7. Bright colors, one of the tracks had water/ocean/beach or something like that surrounding it. The cars may have had faces on them, sort of like in this video, but my kid brain may have made that up (though if it's true it's probably the only way anyone will remember it).

Not positive, but it might be Stunt Race FX, the cars in that usually had their headlights/grills set up like faces and I'm pretty sure there was a beach course. Worth a shot.

I don't think so, it was released after the time period when i played this. However, I have done a little searching and the game seems like it would probably be a version of the roguelike Moria. It's got the same dice rolling and classes that I remember. I can't find a version that runs on vista though, oh well.

Um, I can't remember much at all about this game, since I played it many years ago. I am pretty sure it was on the SNES, and you played as a little blue ball that could turn into different creatures and animals. I've never been able to find it, and I only have fond memories of playing it.

My friend had a game on his PC back in the early 90s that I think was called Mordor, but the only result I get when searching is something called Mordor: Depths of Dejenol, which is definitely not the game.

The game played just like smash tv, with you being a guy with a sword in a dungeon type room and monsters just spawned and ran/shot at you, with the game getting progressively harder as you went on. Also for some reason I'm remembering the character you play as being a little knight with a cape, and a skull for a head, but this could be totally wrong.

There was a game that came out within the last ~5 years or so, that I kept meaning to try but now I can't remember its name. It was some kind of strategy game (turn-based or real time) with a heavy RPG element to it. you controlled a small number of customizable units, and it was for the PC.

Any ideas?

I thought, What a nice little city, it suits me fine. It suited me fine so I started to change it.
There was a game I remember being frustrated by on my uncle's Amiga. It was set in some desert city that was built in the bones of some giant dinosaur or the like. You had to venture into the skull to collect fossilised brain cells in some kind of platformer, which you then used in some weird minigame back in the city to charge your armour.

I have only the haziest recollection of the game, which makes me curious since the setting was so out there that I couldn't have made it up.

Okay, I remember reading about a PS1 RPG that had you playing as a knight, and you had this weird pink... thing that you had to look after or something. I think you got toys that would give the creature special powers, too.

EDIT: Never mind, I found it when I looked through some of my old game magazines. It's called Guardian's Crusade.

This game was almost complete Mariokart (snes) knock off for the PC but they were all animals like a Panda, Camel and Shark. Mode-7 and the like.

It often came on those discs with dozens of demos with Rise of the Triad and Raptor and such.

And while we're on it there's another game I haven't found any trace of, it also came on one of those "100s of demos!" discs.

A neutonian mission based starfighter game with a huge amount of detail but it for some reason even back in like mid-early 90s felt like a one man student project. It was all Starfox Super FX chip graphics but all the colors were usually the same tone of olive green.

The ships moved very slowly and were delta shaped with black triangular shaped cockpits that made up the majority of the ship and I think they were called Cobras. There was one mission I remember I think called "Saving the Princess" which was about defending some massive block shaped ship that either had a princess on it or was named the Princess.

edit: It was the original Elite good lord how could I have forgotten that?!

Fatman1683 was trying to help me remember the name of a game earlier today and directed me here. This has been plaguing me the past few years. I played a game on a family member's PC on vacation probably around 1996. I remember the game as being a 3D game with fairly good graphics for the time. From what I can recall about the story line the year is 2313; the game begins with you waking up in your apartment/dorm and you having to get to the teleport thing to get to work and no matter what you do (I remember I played the opening sequence several times) you cannot get the teleport to work until you are late for work resulting in the voice-over saying that one more tardiness will result in your termination. After getting to work, there is a time-shift wave that is coming and you have to get to a certain area before the wave hits. These waves have apparently become somewhat common.

I was so young when I was playing the game that this is all I can remember. Fatman said that the story line sounded really familiar, but he couldn't remember and despite searching this morning, we couldn't come up with anything. I kind of remember the title being one-word, but I couldn't swear to it...

It wasn't point & click that I remember. I remember it being your typical arrow-key walkabout world, space to jump, shift did something, etc... It had a very Half Life feel to it, i.e. - I don't recall ever seeing the character you were playing.

Two games. All I remember about the first is that near the beginning you had to run from this terrifying (when I was tiny) monster thing and jump off a cliff to grab a vine. I always missed. It looked platformery, but unfortunately I always freaked out and never got any further. I need my revenge.

Also, I'm looking for this weird adventure game my dad got on a shareware disc a long time ago. Not sure, but it may have been from Apogee or 3D Realms or Epic or something, I don't know. I remember there being a talking shark and it generally felt like some trippy dream sequence. There was also some lame pixel-hunting and weird puzzles.

First one sounds like Out of this World (Another World outside the US). The second one is possibly Dare to Dream, by Epic. I never got far enough into it as a kid, but it does have a talking shark in it, and fits your description.

Definitely Out of this World / Another World. The guy who developed it (yeah, it was one guy) got the rights back and released a high-res remake.

Tough game, but unlike much anything else out there.

It was for the SNES. I pretty sure it starred Mickey Mouse. You explored this castle and played minigames. One of these games was a Tetris-like game featuring Goofy.

I want to confirm that the first game there is Another World. One of the better, weirder games ever made. It's been remastered and made available for download by the original creator. Look it up and fuckin buy it.
