I actually listened to a live episode tonight for the first time in probably 3 years, and it was good! Eliza Dushku makes a decent guest, I guess.

The last 5 minutes of the Jack in the Box podcast is Adam ranting about taxes. Adam sounds like such a piece of poo poo when he whines about having to pay more taxes because he makes more money, then defends his whining by claiming the government is handing it out to poor people. This is made worse by how much he loves ranting about the poor state of schooling/roads/law enforcement and other institutions which require taxes to function.

If Adam and all the other evil richers would just pay a higher percentage (their fair share) all those things would get better immediately.

Part of it is strange because their rates are so low. And it ruins their argument that taxes kill business when you notice that the most productive economic time in our country was also when the tax rates were the highest... corporations paid the majority of all taxes and the rich were paying like 70%.

I don't think that more taxes = prosperity, but clearly it doesn't hurt the economy.

I always laugh at his tax rants, because I live in Sweden, and I know there's no way the taxes in CA are even approaching ours. My dad is making nowhere the money Ace is pulling in and paying around 60% income tax, hell I pay 32% on my summer job where I'm making like 13 bucks an hour.

There's no Stryker in this episode. Did you pick the wrong date?

edit: Yeah, this is the 4/21 episode, the day BEFORE he left. If you have the right episode I'll cut out the commercials and host it myself.

Yeah, I'm getting about a thousand dollars back on my taxes. I mean, we do have completely free healthcare and dental up to 20 years old, then it's still pretty cheap, school, including university studies is free, so there's a lot of tangible benefit to the tax rates. I think there's a couple countries that have higher income taxes than us.

I looked up the actual numbers, everyone pays 26-32%, everything over 33000 dollars a year is +20% tax on, and over 50,000 it's + an additional 5%, and there's more that goes into it, but I'm not bothering to look it up right now. Oh, and sales tax is 25% except for food which is 12.5%.

Hooray, Stryker leaves right as I'm in the final months of the loveline torrent. Good timing, there.

I've caught up on Adam's podcast as well, and I'm hoping desperately for repeat guests only (with certain exceptions for Baldwin, Norm, etc.) because holy poo poo is this "tell us about the journey" stuff boring as gently caress.

I mean, the guests seem to be people Adam's friendly with, so maybe he cares about where they come from, but goddamn, do I not give a gently caress how Danica Patrick got started racing, or want to hear Carson Daly talk about his career for 30 minutes. At least that one was saved by Jimmy.

"Jack" was a novel guest, though. I like how quick he was referencing JitB ad campaigns, and the fact that he knew the location number of the restaurant Adam used to go to. Plus it was interesting hearing a marketing dude who is literally the public face of a big company toe the line, not quiiiite wanting to get as profane as Adam was, but being a good sport the whole time.

Good loving lord. I had no idea that Sweden was borderline socialist. Adam can sound like a douche when talking about taxes, but he is paying the top tier while being in one of the heaviest taxed states. Without going through the whole schedule, he is paying mostly 35% federal, 9.3% state and 9-10% sales, which is pretty much as high as it gets in the US. Of course he is also paying monster California property taxes and other hits depending on his investments. In the end, he probably pays more than half of what he makes.

I have to have noise when I sleep, so I usually put on the Loveline stream, and the episode the other night featured Adam going on about Blood Sweat and Tears. 12 hours later when I got home from work I turn it on and it's the episode where for like an hour or so off and on they were playing Blood Sweat and Tears songs.

Then last night another episode featured Adam mentioning getting in trouble for playing Blood Sweat and Tears.

Clearly this is all pointing to something, but I'm not sure what.

Besides Blood Sweat and Tears being AWESOME of course.

Adam keeps insisting on ridiculous microphones, first they had headsets and now they're using TV lavalier mics that go on your shirt. If he had gotten three regular mics it would have cost 300 bucks at most and it would sound absolutely fantastic. The lav mics have pretty lovely sound quality, plus there's all that ridiculous rustling going on. Also, he's releasing the podcasts in stereo, so that's eating up some bandwidth.

I enjoyed the recent podcast, but I would be happy if Adam never referenced the 'pimple & grey hair' story ever again. I listen to the older podcasts every once in a while, and I'm pretty sure the past three I've listened to, including this one, he's made reference to it, and I'm pretty sure he made the same reference in the last podcast he did with them as well.

Agreed. I don't know how Adam managed to be in radio for 15 years without knowing a thing about audio.

TheDingo posted:

Stern mics are not the same headset mics that Adam is using. It sounded like Adam had Weez buy the $20 headset mics that grandmas buy to talk to their grandkids on Skype. I work with Lav mics everyday and the ones we use ($700 a piece) aren't even very good sounding (but nobody wants to carry a handheld mic around or actually learn to speak directly into it so we're stuck with them).

It's obvious that Adam wants two things out of this Podcast experience: 1) To do whatever he wants with it and essentially say "gently caress The Man" to every radio producer he's disagreed with for the last 13 years. This is why we have people walking around a garage talking on mics that clip to your lapel and no organization or direction. 2) To spend as little money doing it as possible. Which is why we started out with $20 gamer headsets purchased by his highschool buddies who owe him a favor and have to hear him complain about how much money it costs to be run the podcast in between telling the same drat story every podcast.

Had the Game Show Network on TV the past couple days and Hollywood Squares comes on. Low and behold the dynamic duo of Adam and Drew are a square. This was back when Loveline was on MTV because that was plugged when they are talked to.

When they come to the pair, Adam throws out the one liner and then Drew answers the question, about what you'd expect from the two. Not sure how many episodes they did, but it was nice to see them on the TV again.
