Boss DD-7 delay. I knew I wanted a stomp box delay and while this was a little more than I'd wanted to spend, I knew I liked the older Boss delay pedals. And after going to an experimental music show last week and seeing a guy jam out with a flight case full of moogerfoogers and other pedals, I remembered how much fun these things can be and so jumped on it. It's nice. As a basic delay it sounds plenty clean, there are several selectable delay bands for anywhere from 50-3200ms delay. There's also modes for reverse delay, analog-style delay, modulate (chorus), and hold (basically a loop function w/overdub). Plus there's a bunch of semi-hidden modes, like being able to use one output for direct out and one for effect out, and "long" mode, which doubles the delay buffer up to 6400ms. This is probably the first pedal I've seen where I'll have to spend a little while studying the manual, but it sounds good and it's lots of fun to experiment with -- I spent a good while last night just playing with the looper and doing crazy apocalyptic effects with the feedback buffer. Also, I picked up Peterson's Strobosoft Deluxe (strobe tuner) software recently (after it was mentioned in this thread a month or two ago) and couldn't be happier with it. I usually keep the strobe tuner display open in one window and the pitch graph (which tracks the pitch in realtime like a polygraph needle) in another, and it really takes all the guesswork out of tuning. It can also be used for setting intonation, and I can think of all kinds of hardware projects where it'll come in handy.

Gorilla Salsa posted:Any thoughts on the Epiphone Dot Studio? I'm thinking of getting one and putting a Bigsby on it. Mine is kind of falling apart. The jack is loose, it buzzes like crazy unless I touch the jack, and something is wrong with the tone knob so that it just sits flush against the guitar and doesn't do anything when turned. The pickups are also pretty muddy. I like it, though, and am going to fix the broken things and put in new pickups once I'm done with exams. who cares fucked around with this message at 22:59 on May 21, 2009 |

The dot studio does have awful pickups. Maybe get one of those xaviere hollowbodies instead. They're pretty good stock from what I've heard, look way better (imo), and cost about the same.

I love my Dot Studio to death, it's my favorite guitar. The stock pickups are terrible and the rest of the stock electronics really aren't much better. Any guitar in that price range will need the pickups replaced to sound professional. With new electronics and a bone nut I can't find anything to complain about on this guitar. Try one out and see if you find the neck comfy, I'd highly reccomend them.

Say hello to my singing voice's saving grace: This is an electronic cigarette. Wikipedia posted:An electronic cigarette (or "e-cigarette") is an alternative to smoked tobacco products, such as cigarettes, cigars, or pipes. It is a battery-powered device that provides inhaled doses of nicotine by delivering a vaporized propylene glycol/nicotine solution. In addition to nicotine delivery, this vapor also provides a flavor and physical sensation similar to that of inhaled tobacco smoke, while no tobacco, smoke, or combustion is actually involved in its operation. I can still smoke, but have my lungs at full capacity. Thank you, God.

I can't take pictures for poo poo, but I just got a graduation present and it is amazing. PRS Mira! I can't begin to convey how impressed I am with this guitar. It is SUCH a step up from my strat. I'm really in love with the coil tap, because it shows just how powerful the humbuckers are. The tone is great, its incredibly comfortable to play, this thing is perfect. And gorgeous (although its not honey burst).

You are going to love both of those. The SMMH is my go-to physical delay box. In my digital setup the world is mine for delay, with literally everything you could think of modeled and uniquely programmed - but going from my digital setup to the SMMH, I don't feel like I'm missing much. It covers all the basic delay needs and does some really cool stuff of its own that you'll get to know and love. PM me if you need any help setting it up or getting certain kinds of sounds out of it when you get it in, it can be a little confusing at first.

Just the thing for fixing the Dual Rectifier's lack of reverb: It works pretty much as advertised, effectively emulating a spring reverb. I was a little torn between one of these and an EH Holy Grail, but I opted for simplicity.

I just did an A/B test with the Spring Chicken in the Mesa's effects loop against a late 70's Princeton Reverb (the sound I wanted). It's pretty much indistinguishable. The reverb knob dimed on the Princeton is about 12:30 on the Spring Chicken - so there is room for a more spacey effect if you want to crank it higher. I'm really happy with it so far, but reserve final judgement for the next band practice.

This place needs more drummers. Anyway, I played my first show with that 15" hybrid tonight and it goes so well with my 13" a-custom hats and kind of contrasts with my 18" a-custom crash, but in a really good way. Crashing it sounds awesome, has a pretty medium sustain but crashing on the unlathed part gives it more decay and it cuts out quicker, sounds really good and really versatile.

Col.Kiwi posted:I could reccomend a few options right off the bat and others would have different opinions. But to give decent advice we really need to know what kind of music you play and get a few examples of what kind of sound you want. There's actually a pickups discussion/reccomendations thread already (it has the Guitar tag) so please post this info there and you should get at least a couple suggestions. I play some alternative with a little bit of classic rock in the mix. Stuff with a bit of distortion, although good clean tones are also a necessity for any guitarist I would think. Something in a decent price range, too. If possible, I'd prefer not to take a mortgage out on some guitar pickups.
