Thanks. I've been looking at some different sliders and what not which will probably be first. Frame, forks, clutch, atlternator and maybe rear spindle sliders. Other than that, I like the looks of the belly pans, bar end mirrors, seat cowls and probably a set of rear pegs from a GSXR which is suppose to be a direct bolt on and won't stick way out like the stock ones due. Sliders first and definately a BMC air filter to open up the intake.

The MiVV exhaust seems pretty nice. Unfortunately, I bought it that way so I don't have any experience to compare it with the stock dual exhaust. I know it shaves a lot of weight and obviously lowers the center of gravity which are both good things. I wouldn't say it's loud, but it does sound pretty good. The dB killer is still installed and I don't have any plans to remove it. Coming from a Harley to this; it's amazing I can hear myself think.

So far, though, I'm loving the bike as it is.

Nice bike. A friend of mine has the same year and model and I've had the chance to ride and wrench on it a bit. Be careful doing your oil changes - the instructions in the manual resulted in an overfill (yes, it was standing straight up) and killed some gaskets. Also be aware that Triumph tends to use whatever parts they have lying around when assembling the bikes, and it's not uncommon to have '07s with '06 or even '05 parts on them.

On topic: I checked the ignition timing and spark advance on the Nighthawk. Took off down the road, and it began misfiring badly above 5k RPM. The coming week will find me (finally) syncing the carbs, replacing the plugs, fine-tooth-combing the ignition system, and eliminating the vacuum fuel shutoff (I just don't trust it, and it's already got a mechanical petcock).

Just washed the bike today and decided to get some pictures before the sun set. It's a '99 Ducati Monster 900S, and I just recently did the fender chop, new integrated tail light/signals, front turn signals and clip-ons. Just wanna find a mini windscreen for the front and it'll be all good. Maybe another full mirror for the right side too. It looks kinda awkward as-is.

It's funny you should ask...

I've had the 'opportunity' to speak with two police men within 24 hours of having it. First cop rolled up next to me at a stoplight after, surely seeing some pretty non-cop friendly behavior and both myself and the person I'm riding with agree that we're pretty sure he shouted 'Nice bike!' before taking his free right on red.

Few hours later I got hit by a speed trap on I-5, nothing stupid fast just a bit over the speed limit. As I'm taking my helmet off and ear plugs out I hear the cop exclaim "Sweet bike! What is it? Is that the 690? Oh man!..." and we proceeded to talk shop about 10 minutes before he sent me on my way ticketless.

Bright orange bikes man.

As I was washing my bike yesterday, a cop pulled down the alley I was on and told me "nice bike!" We shot the poo poo for about 15 minutes until he had to go answer a call. Pretty cool that so many cops ride, and this one was a bike cop for a while.

Crosspost from the New to Motorcycling thread, my first bike:

1974 Suzuki TS185L Sierra.

Starting not included (No spark). Repair manual is on the way and the guy gave me a shitload of brand new parts for it. I'm pretty sure it's the magneto rotor, which I have a brand new replacement in the box. I already replaced the coils. Now I just need a few hours of free time. New tires, chain, spark plugs, gas tank has been powder coated. Engine was rebuilt/cleaned within the last 2 years.

I paid $150.

Thanks. I it is in really good shape for the most part. there were rust spots on the chrome, but I was able to get most of them off with tin foil. The tail rack has some pretty rough spots on it, as well as where the crossbar meets the handlebars, but nothing horriffic or life threatening. I'm definitely going to rattlecan the tank and fenders red. Tank and front fender are really easy to get off, the back one will take a bit more work since it actually goes up under the seat and the shocks, tail rack and other bits bolt through it.

Anyone have any tips for painting over powder coat?

Sand, primer and spray your base coat. Wet sand the base coat and then spray clear over it. Rattlecan clear is going to melt when gas touches it. If you want to get a stronger, gas proof clear coat in a rattlecan then look into something like this: http://www.eastwood.com/spray-max-2k-high-gloss-clearcoat-aerosol.html

Once the clear is dry you'll need to wetsand with 1000-2000 grit, rubbing compound, and polish. It'll look like a professional job if you're careful and patient. I'm going through the same process right now and its frustrating at times but the end product is amazing.

I may be wrong, but the problem with a topcoat like that is that its a single stage paint and so wont be very resistant to gasoline. Another poster here put a racing stripe over his rattle can clear with bedliner, right by the gas cap, which is a clever solution.

I finished up my rattle can clear coat last week and then spilt fuel on the first ride. It just cut right through it. It was heartbreaking. I've since gotten a can of that two stage Spraymax and I'm going to give it a try. Early reports are that its tough as nails and pretty much exactly the same as a bodyshop urethane.
