Gourcuff definitely. loving amazing dribbling. I like when the commentators yell his name: Gourcooooooooooooooooooooof! e: The Iaquinta one is good, but moreso for Trez's pass than the actual goal.

101greatgoals.com are publishing their "best goals of the season" list early next week, and they're usually pretty good at catching goals from the smaller and more obscure leagues too, so that'll be interesting for sure. If Gourcuff isn't first, it's all a waste of time though. His goal against PSG is the best I've seen in at least a couple years. It's like watching a young Zidane on crack: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KoMHoyFBROs "Ohohohohohoh, quelle but!" Grafite v Bayern will surely also be upthere, particularly for the cheekyness: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSuiI9WY2uY The Messi Maradona-copy goal is gonna rank high too, particularly now that they've won the CL. Any others that you guys think will be up there from this season?

The first two touches are brilliant but the fact that he pulls the same thing off again in reverse on the next guy within a quarter of a second, and then hammers it in with the outside of his boot, ridiculous. As I said, I can't think of a better goal in the last few seasons.

The Guardian are doing their European Goal of the Season vote right now, here: http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/poll/2009/jun/01/european-goal-of-the-season1 Unsurprisingly, Gourcuff is in the lead. I don't know what the gently caress Torres is doing ahead of Grafite though. For me, Gourcuff and Grafite's goals are a level above the rest, with Gourcuff's being the best I've seen in a long, long time.

Bordeaux managed to land him because he went on loan there and AC Milan couldn't guarantee him time on the pitch. Steal of the century. He looks like the real deal, although obviously he's not gonna score a goal like that ever again (quote me when he does in the CL final in two years). I fully expect to see him at a top club soon. Bordeaux won't have him for long.

I think he'll get one more full season at Bourdeaux, he's just too good. And of course I am biased but don't underestimate the quality of that Torres goal.

The Torres goal is an amazing goal because that kind of hit is almost impossible. If you play football you would know this. There is just no way to wrap your foot around the ball like that!

I miss Eduardo.

Also he doesn't even look up to see where the goal was, he just instinctively knew, and hit it. You can't get ability like that from practicing.

Torres' goal was definitely good and is one of the front runners for EPL goal of the season surely, but anyone voting it ahead of Gourcuff or Grafite is quite obviously biased. E: Exact same thing applies for any other English team goal, ie. Eduardo and Ronaldo v Porto. Good goals, but not out of this world.

luvd posted:sarcasm? it's an incredible goal, if rooney had scored that this place would have gone into meltdown No sarcasm, but a tiny bit of hyperbole. I admit it's a great goal. But consider that League One is third tier in England. I'm confident that if you went as deep as that you'd find similar goals scored on a pretty regular basis all over Europe. I scored some pretty nice goals when I used to play if I may say so myself, but they were all in pub leagues, basically. The amazing thing about Cristiano Ronaldo's goal, for instance, was that it was scored in Champions League, against the best players in Europe, where the stakes are immensely higher and the tempo is much, much faster. It's basically another sport entirely.

Irimbvit posted:The amazing thing about Cristiano Ronaldo's goal, for instance, was that it was scored in Champions League, against the best players in Europe, where the stakes are immensely higher and the tempo is much, much faster. I would honestly like to see a comparison in players' heart-rate and distance covered between a Football League match and a Champions League match. I do remember reading an interview once with a now-retired Select Group referee and he said something about how they discovered that when the FIFA guys started wearing monitors regularly, they were running further and their hearts were beating about 15% faster during Premier League matches than they were in Champions League matches. David Elleray's comment about refereeing in Europe was always that it was completely different and difficult to adjust to, because the football was a great deal of slow, ponderous nothing-much-happening-here-guv interspersed with occasional flashes of faster-than-you've-ever-seen. It's one thing to adjust upwards, and another to adjust both up and down at the same time, which is why... quote:It's basically another sport entirely. ...I'd be inclined to agree with this, but on the grounds that Continental football is still noticeably slower than English football. Anyone else remember Arsenal's home leg against Roma? It was absolutely staggering how easily Arsenal were able to force Roma into mistakes by not allowing them the extra second of thinking time that they were used to, and then they were completely shagged out by the middle of the second half.

In that sense its better than Torres's which is more a combination of an amazing strike/angle and the fact that he guides that in without ever looking up towards goal (amazing awareness of his exact location in relation to the goal).

I do not think you guys understand Torres's goal. It is impossible to hit the ball like that..yes I think Gourcuff's ball was better because he has so much control and Gafite's is nice as well but Torres's is magical. To hit the ball so super is basically impossible.

To hit the ball so super is basically impossible. Or incredibly lucky. If he hit that shot another nine times, I doubt it would have gone in again more than once or twice, if at all. Gourcuff and Grafite however, have much more definite intention and definite skill (both linking at least two incredible moves), and more importantly there's much less luck involved. That is why their goals are better. Don't get me wrong, Torres' is a great goal, but it's great because it's so flukey. If he wasn't the best striker in the world, people wouldn't even consider it anything more than a speculative effort that got lucky.

The Torres goal is incredible but the Gourcuff one is better. It's a shame there's no assist of the season or anything, as Torres' ridiculous knee-toe-chest-backheel assist for Gerrard against Everton is one of the best things I've ever seen.
