Just finished mixing a demo with my new band which I suppose could be classed as hard/deathcore (drums here). Probably for fans of Architects/Surfaces etc. I'd greatly appreciate some feedback from people who've been listening to the genre longer than I! There's a new ETID coming?! Oh I am so glad I saw this thread. I loving love ETID, The Big Dirty is one of my favorite albums (as is Hot drat! Gutter Phenomenon and Last Night In town are good too) Also, I just got around to listening to the new It Dies Today, Lividity. I REALLY like it. I loved the gently caress out of The Caitiff choir in 04, and then got into their 3-track demo (lost during a harddrive malfunction, FML) and their 6-track EP (purchased original at a show). Sirens was god awful. Lividity has a ton of heavy riffing and vocals and reminds me a lot of The Caitiff Choir.

I was incredibly excited when they did a teaser for Thank You for Drinking but after one spin of the album I was left wondering why nothing resonated with me. Although the skit at the end of the last track was good and I still listen to it about once a week. I absolutely stand by that Forever Scorned (not the re-issue) is an incredible piece of work. The Caitiff Choir was also great, but I still kind of liked a little of Sirens. I'll need to listen to the new album again I think. -Atom- fucked around with this message at 23:39 on Aug 20, 2009 |

Forever Scored (the original; the re-issue is horrible in every single fashion) is amazing and I love it. The Caitiff Choir is my favorite IDT material (again, the original, not the re-issue). I liked two or three songs from Sirens but as a whole, it was really pussy stuff for IDT. Lividity is, to me, a lot more like The Caitiff Choir. I do miss Nick, though. His vocals poo poo all over this new guy's. I can only imagine Lividity recorded with Nick. "This Ghost", "Thank You For Drinking", "Miss October", and whatever track 6 is are my favorites as of now. Awesome gym album, I'll be lifting to it again tonight.

Don't even ask. You will just be endlessly reminded of how they sound "the same" or "aren't music" or whatever even though there are plenty of bands that sound similar in every genre and this just happens to be a very popular genre and therefore many bands are doing different variations on a similar sound. This isn't necessarily bad, but many elitist-type folk are going to say such ridiculous things. These people also happen to be pretty concentrated on the internet. I did like the song even if it was slightly overly-derivative edit: Take hip-hop, for example. I love hip-hop and listen to every different range from underground to R&B radio tracks (mostly because im forced to but some are enjoyable). There are a loving trillion songs that sound alike, even from big-name artists and highly respected underground rappers. However metalcore/deathcore/whatever-core gets a bad name because A) a large number of "original hardcore fans" choose to pretend that they're music is inherently better and more authentic because it was the predecessor to this kind of music B) a large number of people who inherently don't like screaming/abrasive music or refuse to try and listen to it so basically you have groups who don't listen to any kind of heavy music at all and don't like it and then still others who believe that all of this music is just trash, which is obviously not true and a matter of opinion edit: the "original hardcore fans" thing was not aimed at the people in the hardcore thread, though there may be people who fit such a description in there x TOMMYBOY x fucked around with this message at 23:35 on Aug 26, 2009 |

What makes that song interesting enough to be "awesome" or whatever? The lead guitar harmonies are sloppy and uninteresting, they aren't very creative musicians and its just entirely too long. I mean, I understand that they are a young band and all, but why write music that people before you have already done 1000x better? They have a piano player but you only hear him for 4 seconds about 1/4 of the way into the song and then Im assuming he also triggers the bassdrop style explosion sample? I'd be willing to wager that he is the most musically talented member of that band, and you dont hear him at all.
