Had a coolant leak, topped up the coolant and noticed I had an air lock on start [chug chug chug noise for a few seconds].. couldn't get the system to burp so I used a pressure tester to pressurize everything a few times and released air with the bleeder screws. Finally got all the air out of the system. Found the leak on a hoseclamp on the water pump intake hose, so out comes all the hose clamps and in goes all the spring tensioned t-bolt hose clmaps.

Last week I did the timing belt on my 2002 Civic Ex. I forgot to refill the coolant when I test drove it, It started to overheat, but I managed to put in some water. I'll need to refill it with OEM Honda Coolant soon.

I bought a 1998 Ford Escort ZX2 to replace my 1991 Mercury Tracer LTS a few days ago. I am selling the Tracer to my friend's son Cody. On Saturday Cody helped me swap the seats and strut assembles from the Tracer to the ZX2 and vice versa. He also helped me remove my stereo from the Tracer so I can put it in the ZX2 at a later date. After the suspension and seat swap my wife and I drove to Lincoln to watch the University of Nebraska Cornhuskers open up the season against Florida Atlantic University. Then we had Raising Cane's and went home. Raising Cane's is awesome and I wish there was one in Omaha.

eh, over the weekend I changed the oil in my brother's Accord (gently caress their oil filter placement!) and got a free pair of jeans out of it, and then I changed the oil and cabin filter in my sister-in-law's Bonneville. I didn't get anything special for that. One of these days I'll get to do something to my own car

Limped it home through huge city traffic jams with a dead/dying alternator. My heat kept turning on and off and kept moving the dampers around when I'd come to a stop, turn signals didn't work but would flick on by themselves, no brake lights.. Now I've got to have my dad pick up an alternator and bring me tools, because I'm at school.

Here are the pictures of my now-lowered 1998 Escort ZX2. The struts are special units made for the limited edition ZX2 S/R from the Ford Racing catalog. They are shorter than stock and have more aggressive valving. The springs are something I bought from ebay. This set of strut/springs has been used on my 1991 Escort GT hatch, my 1991 Tracer LTS sedan and now they 1998 ZX2 coupe. Each car has been progressively more difficult to get the rear struts into. The rear strut mount bolts on the ZX2 are hard to get to in particular. The seats are from a 1995 Mazda MX-3. They are much more aggressively bolstered and they sit about two inches lower than stock so I can wear a helmet and still have headroom under the sunroof. This sunroof goes OVER the roof instead of inside like my old 1991 Escort GT hatchback. I was worried the navy blue seats would look really out of place in the tan interior but it doesn't. It is kind of like a navy sports coat with khaki pants.

1981 Volvo 245GL Wagon. Last week, it got 2 new tyres, a wheel alignment after I'd fitted 2 new front wheel bearings, changed the perished steering rack boots and greased the rack and tie-rod ball joints. Tonight: - Swapped my "good" alternator for my spare one after the good one started making bearing noise earlier this week. - Added a new 6 pin connector to the stereo harness, attached the illumination, phone mute, power antenna, and amplifier remote wires to the stereo side and integrated an illumination wire into the factory harness on the car side... Now my stereo goes from bright white and visible during the day to pale green and non-obtrusive at night. - Tidied up all the wiring behind the dash, repaired some of the dash lighting sockets, and fitted new T5 wedge lamps the the HVAC and accessory switch panels. - Removed an ugly old toggle switch (added by the previous owner to turn the blower motor off), dremelled out the switch blank it was fitted to, and put in a much nicer rocker switch that is a closer match to the other OEM accessory switches. - Refurbished and fitted a used tailgate light push switch in the factory location and returned the wiring back to it's original config. The P.O had removed the automatic switch and fitted a toggle switch to the side of the cargo space to turn the light on and off (don't ask me why, It annoyed the hell out of me - I kept forgetting to turn it off). Sunday, the plan is alternator rebuild (if I can find the parts, otherwise I plan to import a rebuilt 100A Turbo alternator from the U.S), fitting a new master cylinder, brake servo check valve and hose, and a brake and clutch flush and refill. In a couple of weeks, when I can scrape the money together, I'll fit some new brake rotors and pads. The pads don't yet need replacing (still have plenty of meat left on them), but seeing as I don't know when they were last replaced, and because the current rotors are rusty as hell and a bit glazed, I'll put some nice new Bendix Ultimates or QFMs on at the same time. After that, it's back to the U-Pull-It wreckers yard - Only $130 for a complete power steering system, and $170 for a complete A/C system. My car is the poverty-spec and has neither. If I get the complete bracket that holds the power steering pump and A/C compressor with everything all together, I should be able to get both in in the space of weekend. I was bothered by the fact that my head unit had a front USB plug to interface with an ipod/flash drive but didn't have a rear one, which would allow me to hide the cable and stick the ipod in the glove box. I decided to do something about it. I got a spare ipod interface cable for $2 shipped and cut the end off of it. I disassembled the head unit, finding that the interface connection between the headunit and the faceplate was on a board that had the pinout already detailed for me. So I just soldered the appropriate wires to the feet of the socket, tucked the cable into the body of the head unit and out the back, secured the wire against the inside of the body with a zip-tie, and ran it into the glove box. Looks much better if a bit gerry-rigged.

Changed oil and brake fluid and while I was at it spark plugs. Now I need to take it to VW to get them the flush the coolant system because I don't have one of those flushing machines.

Put the rear crankshaft seal + carrier back in. I spent 30 minutes sitting up in the transmission tunnel scraping the old gasket off everything. I never loving want to do that again.

This is what I get for having a car with the engine from an '84 GTI. Flappy meters are L-Jetronic, early Motronic and Digifant setups. You're thinking of KE-Jetronic (CIS-x), using a mechanical injector system and possibly an oxygen sensor for somewhat closed-loop cruising. Those have a flappy plate too, but its mounted vertically in the fuel metering unit and isn't electrical, on the box with all the injector hoses coming off of it. Same idea, completely different mechanisms edit: you figured it out

Replaced the battery in my keyfob because I have to be a foot from the car for it to work. Turns out I can now be 2 feet away and my keyfob/car sucks. Also ordered a new set of wires for my trunk because it wont pop with either the interior button or the keyfob button. It stopped working one day after I crammed a bunch of stuff in there. All the connections are connected, so we shall see if a new harness works.

When you said lowered I was expecting to scroll down to some hellaflush trash but that looks very nice. I love the way the front looks on the ZX2, it's too bad they're not much more powerful than the regular third gen Escort. I put new wipers and a clean air filter on my regular Escort today, and picked up the Haynes manual to help me do the plugs and wires fairly soon.

Well gently caress.... Pulled the steering shaft to find out why the steering was really heavy. Found the front universal joint on the shaft is siezed as solid as gently caress. Im lucky i didnt tear the head off it and wind up with no steering!

Topped off the Corvair's ATF this morning and installed the heater hoses. It's gonna get cold out soon. I've been driving it 40 miles to school and back daily for the last two weeks. I really should just fix the leak, but that involves dropping the engine and replacing the torque converter seal and just pouring more ATF in is easier.

In order from my start at 8AM this morning till my finish at 6PM tonight (did take a trip to the hardware store, U-Pull It yard, and the auto parts shop). - New master cylinder. Old one had an internal leak. - Brake drain & flush. Fluid was so dirty it was nearly opaque. (8 bleed valves? What the Christ Volvo?!?!) - Clutch drain and flush. Fluid was just as bad as the brakes. - New brake servo hose & check valve. - Fitted a salvaged dash facia with all it's mounting points attached. (no more blu-tack holding my dash together) - Replaced the aftermarket switch I put in the blanking panel with an OEM Volvo one labelled "AIR COND". (Don't have air con, but it switches the blower on and off. Close enough ) - More wiring tidied. - Refurbished and fitted 2 salvaged interior lights. (cleaned contacts and lubed switches, etc. Both my old lights had the switch stalks broken off) Holy gently caress my brakes and clutch are so much more responsive now. Tailgate isn't connected to the accessory + door open buzzer (which I just pulled out), and the way the switch was wired, it would have set it off anyway. All the P.O did was take out the pin switch, and run an extension wire with a spade from the connector up to the toggle switch at the side of the cargo area. The other side of the switch was earthed, so the circuit would have been the same as it is now.

Rear brakes were suddenly making some bad noises, so I did a quick run to the parts shop. Turns out they were pretty bad The passenger side rotor was stuck on the parking brake, which has never worked. Both sides, it seems, had been dragging for some time. I turned the adjusters all the way in and they're not a problem anymore. The calipers were still fine, thankfully. It was time for the near 200k mile oil change, so I got some GENUINE FORD MOTORCRAFT PARTS AND LUBRICATION and some lovely wipers Cleaned up the engine bay a little. I wish I'd cleaned the goddamned camera lens and taken before pictures. New alternator as well. It took a poo poo in the middle of a crowded city a few days ago and it was kind enough to shut off the fuel pump as I was about to put the car in park 20 minutes later. It was going to rain on the way home as well, so I had a sweltering drive home with the windows up, dripping with sweat through anxiety about the car wanting to shut off and the heat. Changed out the pre-cat O2 sensor on my '01 VR6. Thing screwed right out... I was surprised I didn't have to fight it for 2 hours like I usually end up doing when doing simple maintenance.

30 foot ceiling-mounted extension cord in this amazingly nice garage! It runs all the way back... ... and only makes it to the end of the Tundra. Switching to orange. Rounding the driveway and out to the street. Yes, my seats are wrinkled. 1900W through 130ft of extension cord, what could go wrong? Actually the driver's side had a big hole to be fixed. Note the very custom JDM type R stitches and mad tite imported replacement foam. Finally topped it off with the finest imported Canadian denim. Over 1200 eskimos were killed to make this iron-on. The finished product is pretty nice, I think, for the $7 I spent on it. (This car is for sale in SA Mart, '95 Civic DX hatchback)

The other day I bought a 1995 Toyota Avalon for $700. It needed brakes, struts, exhaust work, and tires. It was missing one of the fifteen inch factory alloys so the fourth wheel was a fifteen inch full-size spare. Friday morning I ordered new struts and new brake pads for all four corners along with some other maintenance items like radiator hoses and a new serpentine belt. On Friday afternoon I dropped it off at the muffler shop down the street from my work to address the exhaust leak. The flex pipe was bad. On this car the flex pipe and the pre-cat are one piece. I don't weld, so I had the muffler shop weld in a new piece of flex pipe for $150. After the exhaust repair the engine was extremely quiet just like it was supposed to be. The car was still borderline scary to drive between the tires with belt showing through and the completely blown struts. I mentioned earlier the car was missing one fifteen inch alloy wheel. I had a spare set of sixteen inch Bridgestone Turanza tires from a set of wheels I bought. I found a set of sixteen inch alloys from a 2000 Lexus LS400 for $70 on craigslist so I had the used tires mounted on the Lexus wheels and then put the Lexus wheels on the car. I have another set of these wheels for my 1995 Lexus SC400 for snow tires and they look ridiculous on my SC, but they fit this car very well. I think its because the general design of this car so closely mimics that of the LS400. During my lunch break today I went after some stains on the carpet with some spot cleaner I bought at the store. I must say I was impressed with the results. Spot cleaning products have come a long way since the last time I used them years ago. I need to finish that up and then scrub down the interior with a Magic Eraser. The car now drives much better with the biggest improvements yet to come. I still need to check the engine codes and fix whatever is wrong there, have my friend PDR a couple of dents out of the fenders, and fix the brakes and struts using parts that should be here the tomorrow or the day after. Wish me luck!
