pike posted:I'm trying to find a song that I've only heard once in passing. The best I've got is that it sounds similar to the melody in Royksopp's "Happy Up Here". It's got a similar tone, but more chopped up, syncopated. Kinda off beat too. I've been trying to use Pandora but no luck. It might be a hip hop song, I thought maybe Sound Providers but that's not it. Maybe something more mainstream? Might be Royksopp - Eple (used to be on commercials a couple years ago?)

Hope this hasn't been asked already, but there's like 99 pages of this thread that I don't think I can go through without search. I'll try to make it easy though. It's a classical piece, with a chorus singing Latin words I can't understand. It's really famous, and if you were to play it out on a keyboard, it would go something like: A A G# G# (quarter notes, staccato) A A G# G# (same thing) A A G# A B A G# (quarter notes with the A B being half notes) It's used in commercials, movie trailers, all over the place. All of my friends recognize it, but nobody knows what it's called. VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV That's it. Thanks so much, it'd been baffling me all day. I've really been enjoying The xx - xx. Something about the song Islands sounded super familiar to me and now I'm convinced it's from a song off West Coast by Studio, but I lost my copy of that album a while ago and don't feel like purchasing a digital copy right now. Can someone who is familiar with West Coast check out the song Islands and tell me if I'm just imagining things?

I saw Kavinsky at Home in Sydney last friday. I thought his set was sloppy as hell but the third or fourth track was great, like classic french house. It'd be similar in style to Daft Punk, Shapeshifters, Junior Jack etc. Naturally I can't find the track or any info on it and it's doing my head in. I know what it sounds like and I remembered the bassline: There's no lyrics but there's a vocal harmony part and a repeated "oo-whee" near the end of each 4 bar loop. Anyway if anybody knows the track I'm describing I'd love an ID. vvv thank you very much Drummond Bass fucked around with this message at 09:21 on Sep 9, 2009 |

I was recently listening to "In a Sentimental Mood" by Duke Ellington and it immediately reminded me of a RnB song I've heard before by either Alicia Keys or John Legend where the beginning piano phrase of "In a Sentimental Mood" repeats throughout. I've searched everywhere and have not been able to come across this mystery song. Any ideas? "In a Sentimental Mood" on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UnZeQI76Hlg

In Pitbull's "Hotel Room Service", where does the 14 note phrase where he says "meet me at the hotel room" come from? Here's the terrible video for reference. It's starts 25 seconds in. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5xE4PHhAs4 I swear it's from a dance track from the 90s.

Hope you guys can help here. Was listening to a music channel last night (this is UK so not sure if americans will know it) It was a white rapper, and the video to it ended with an old man dying of a heart attack all alone (as well as other people dying sad deaths at the end), and the lyrics were something like "represent the lower community" or something like that. I had never heard the song before and have tried finding it for like half an hour today. I know this really isnt much to guy on but would be really greatful if someone knew it edit: just after i post this I remember what music channel i watched it on, and googled their playlist and found it was Devlin Community Outcast http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1fSMMQE3bw Bengi66 fucked around with this message at 12:31 on Sep 12, 2009 |

This isn't exactly a "help me identify a song" but rather where else a part of the song has been. Or who else plays a riff similar to it. In Led Zepplin's When the Levee Breaks there is a part from 1:13 to 1:16 that sounds oddly familiar. I haven't listened to Zepplin much before so I don't think I heard it there. Although I guess I can accept that it's a very popular band/song and it could have been used almost anywhere. However I feel like some other band used the exact riff. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rd7DBVCNqW8

A song with the lyrics "and I believe that love will rule the world" (rule the world is probably not correct. I think I remember it as a lush funk song with a male black falsetto voice. Any help would be appreciated.

Okay, I had a song that I found about six years ago that was a technoish track with some sampled male voice saying "I am electric" now and again. I don't have any more in the way of description, I just remember that I really liked it. Help? Also, I had a live recordinging of Doctor? by Orbital. It was the version where they'd sampled in one of the Doctors having a conversation with his sidekick along the lines of "We fly in here in time and space", she laugh's and says "F-flight?" and he replies, "oh, no, no, no, don't laugh, it's true". The song ramps up slowly and then the drums go loving wild. Makes all the other versions I've heard sound anaemic. Any ideas which recording it was? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zl1XfHbiqCU#t=1m WARNING: For some reason the audio levels skyrocket at like 1:20 so to avoid hearing damage please turn down your volume a considerable degree This happens at an earlier point in the video, too (0:30-0:35). I know the song from the first half of the video is Sheep by Pink Floyd. The person who uploaded and made the video uses Pink Floyd for a LOT of his work, so I'm thinking the song for the last 30 seconds or so might be another song by them, but I have no idea what. Edit: I asked this in the YCS thread dedicated to these videos and have since discovered that it's Summer '68 by Pink Floyd. I probably should have asked there first. I'm not trying to get a specific song, but more of a genre. Although specific songs within that genre would help. It's "collegiate" sounding music that they often play in college movies or parts of movies showing college campuses. It's usually (if not always) just orchestral. I'm not sure what else I can say about it, and I can't think of any movies of the top of my head that use it.

In episode #389 of This American Life podcast ("Frenemies") there is a song playing in the first minute (with an organ). What song is that, it's been bugging me for ages. For some reason in my head the name Close to Me by Cure rings a bell but i'm so wrong. Listen here @ 34seconds in. Solved: It IS close to me, it's just the jukebox in the pub was wrong and plays the wrong song when you select Close to me. TheToiletDuck fucked around with this message at 21:55 on Sep 15, 2009 |

The only thing I can think of that has a repeating sample like that is a song called "Look At The Musik" by Darling Kandie. If you go here, you can hear a sample of the song. The sample in question comes at the very end so listen carefully. The only problem is that the "I am electric, I am electric" sample is female... I know you said male but it was worth a shot. (As a side coincidence, Darling Kandie is a side-project from the Thrill Kill Kult's vocalist)
