The entire thing (Mr. America) was a joke and was NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER meant to be taken seriously. From the very first second of the gimmick every single person in the world was in on the joke and everyone was expected to go along with it for just the sheer fun of it all. I loved the entire storyline and was sad that it just got cut off for reasons I was never entirely sure of (although I presume it incorporates Vince and Hogan having another falling out).

Yup, that's pretty much exactly the reason. Hogan wanted too much money or something, Vince refused it, so they just wrote him off altogether.

Do Mexican wrestling companies often steal things from other companies? I'm watching AAA on Galavision and they did some backstage bit and the DX theme is clearly playing in the background. I wouldn't think that WWE would give them permission to use that, would they?

How many of yesterday and todays' top singles superstars were not members of a successful tag team/stable? Now, I'm not counting people who've been in a tag team match, here or there, or even people who won the tag team belts on a fluke. I'm talking about people in legitimate teams, like D-X or the Hardyz. So far the only two that me and my friends were able to come up with were Rey (teaming with Batista for a while doesn't count, and since none of us could recall how long he was co-champ with Eddie, we decided it was OK... though if it was longer than 4 months I guess I'll have to admit he doesn't count either) and Cena (he was a champ with HBK, but again, that was more to promote them as reluctant allies than as an actual team). None of us knew enough about pre-Attitude Era stuff to say for certain. Hell, I'll make this a two parter, to make coming up with names a bit easier, who was a successful singles champ BEFORE becoming a tag team/stable member? I think Undertaker is OK here, ignoring his stint in WCW under a different name and gimmick because that doesn't count, and his affiliations with Paul Bearer (manager =/= stable/tag team). I don't know enough about ROH to make a ruling yet on Punk, but I know he was in a stable with Joe and Cabana. If they were a 4 Horsemen-ish stable, then Punk's out of the running, if they were just some guys who hung out, then he's still OK I guess. How over were the Hollywood Blondes? Was he Steve Austin then, or still the Ringmaster?

Rey was in Eddie Guerro's mexican WCW stable, and The Filthy Animals, although I'm not sure either of those could be considered successful. The only guy I can really think of is Rob Van Dam.. Does ECW/WCW count as a stable?

Yeah, not gonna count The Alliance or WCW/ECW as a stable, because then technically the opposition of WWE was also a stable and thusly everyone around at that time was in a stable by default. So, yeah, Cena, Rey, 'Taker, maybe Austin, and RVD so far.

I don't know of anyone using that clip in entrance music, but (and this is kind of a stretch) the band Skinless uses it at the beginning of their song "The Optimist" ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f6jx8qSu2bA ). I'm sure other bands have sampled it here and there. Thanks for mentioning it by the way...I'd never seen that promo and didnt know where that sample came from until now.

After watching the Mr. America stuff, it reminded me that the summer of 2003 is when I stopped watching wrestling as intently as I did. So, my question is, whatever became of Zack Gowan. I know he was released in early 2004, but I don't remember him doing much after feuding with Vince. Wikipedia tells me he had a feud with Matt Hardy, but I don't remember this. Also, after Austin turned heel at WMX-7, which was a few months before the Invasion started. Then, when it did start, Austin turned face again. But, by the end, he was in the Alliance for some reason. Can someone fill me in on the details for this? And, what's the probability of the WWE releasing episodes of Raw on DVD? I know it would be expensive, but I would buy it.

But, by the end, he was in the Alliance for some reason. Can someone fill me in on the details for this? So, Austin was a heel after WM X7. He ended up turning into a goofy heel who would hang around with Vince and Kurt Angle backstage and sing songs. Since the WWF was being invaded by Alliance wrestlers, Vince wanted the old Stone Cold back who would stunner anyone who looked at him the wrong way. Stone Cold was upset by this and left, only to return and kick the Alliance's asses and set himself up as the leader of the WWF faction going into InVasion. At InVasion, Austin turned on WWF and helped the Alliance win by dropping Booker T on top of Kurt Angle. I can't remember the exact reason he gave for the swerve but he immediately became the shining light of the Alliance and the whole faction revolved around him. There was a Steve Austin thank you night and whatnot. Over time he got increasingly paranoid and as well as fending off WWF wrestlers like Angle, he would attack guys like RVD and Tazz. When the Alliance storyline ended, Vince turned heel and alligned with Kurt Angle while Steve Austin kind of turned face and alligned with a newly debuting Ric Flair.

There wasn't really a "face turn" for Austin per se. After the Alliance lost at Survivor Series he came out and was just a face without really doing anything to turn. I think he hit Kurt Angle with a Stunner because Vince was just going to give Angle the world title. Also, Steve Austin in the Alliance brought this to the world: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_U6mtlyLkk

I think the point of a good opening theme is something at the beginning to get a big pop when the wrestler comes out, whether at the beginning of a match or in the middle of someone's promo. In addition to everything else that was named, I think that "You think you know me" and "...KENNEDY!" work great for that kind of stuff.
