Making money in AO is kind of tough, but usually you'll find something valuable sooner or later and will be able to sell it for a shitload of cash.

At higher levels, the best way to do it is camping SL dynabosses. Elysium, Adonis, and Inferno all have dynas that drop good loot, and while some of it is crap there's also plenty of stuff that'll sell for 50 mil+. In Elysium you can farm the spirit dynas and hiathlins/imps for some valuable stuff - focus funneling spirits and spirit training programs are all valuable, along with the spirit NCUs (problem solving device, in particular), and they're not camped nearly as much as predators.

The other thing you can do is farm CRUs through team missions, or just buy them, and then do alien raids with a team. If you get some good viral bots then that can make you a crapload of money too, especially strong/spiritual, though observant and arithmetic are worth a bit too. Spiritual are always crap, and enduring are crap below 240.

I have a CL11 Opifex Fixer (Omni). I was trying to get around to do the Concrete Cushion missions, but because I'm Omni, there are just some places I can't reach without getting shredded at my level. I really wanted to join GoonCorp, which is why I switched from Neutral to Omni, but our guild doesn't seem all that active.

I'm tempted to reroll, probably a straightforward point-click-shoot combat profession as well as another Fixer (which I'll keep Neutral this time.) I've read that there are three main blitzing strategies -- peacemaking, stealth, and running -- but I prefer honest-to-goodness wholesale death and destruction. I want to go into these missions guns blazing and killing everything in sight like a coked-out action antihero. Any breed/profession suggestions?

Any good Agent leveling/Implants/Drops tutorials around someone could refer me to? Having a blast on my level 19 guy so far, had someone drop me 2mil for teaming up for a few hours down in the guts of subway, which was mighty nice of them. So yeah, got some serious cash to hopefully push this guys skills as high as possible; but having trouble finding a site which has a tut which would assist in doing so.

Edit: My guy is "Macchiatoe" Clan on RK1 btw

Any pet profession is good at that sort of mishing, since you can pretty much just go /pet hunt and watch them rip apart anything they come across. It's only a matter of choice between Metaphysicist, Bureaucrat and Engineer, you'll need to weigh and compare the professions' different features. Wanna do tradeskills? Go Engi. Wanna fly around being an rear end-kicking mage priest channeling his emotions into metaphysical monstrosities that attack poo poo for you? Go MP. Wanna level fast and be loved by your teammates wherever you go? Crat. Engis and Bureaucrats get 2 pets, MPs get 3.

Then you could also roll a high damage profession like Soldier or Shade. Shades can be very challenging though if you don't have a rich main to support it with. They depend entirely on evades since they have no heals but HP drains, so playing one requires investing in a lot of evade gear.

And congratulations Troika! Have you sold it already? How much for? :)

Joining an org is probably the easiest way to get help with that. There's always bound to be someone around who knows about a particular profession and its toolset, as long as you don't hop into a tiny little roleplayer org like mine. :ssh:

I think GA2 goes for 70-100 right now, but your best bet is to check the global market search, or have someone check it for you. I'll try to be online later tonight and I can do invites and check stuff for people then if it's still needed.

I remember this was a great way to make money when I was lvl 130-150, I had a good scheme going cause I was an enfo and I knew a doc\soldier duo who had a city of theirs to raid in, so we would do back to back raids using both cities, and with the 3 most desirable classes for AI raids already covered we could pretty much grab even the most retarded LFTers for the other spots and still run things smoothly

the one time nothing could be done was when this pug fixer, who constantly boasted about his pvp prowess, got aggro inside the ship, panicked, and team gridded out, teleporting everyone out of the raid :argh:

good to see folks are still playing AO, memories of training sandworms (and brontos\rhinomen) to totw entrance still holds a special place in my heart :unsmith:

The worst are those giant spiders. Yes the sandworms are way harder to kill but when you're standing there typing trying to form a group and suddenly GIANT SPIDER it used to scare the poo poo out of me. Sandworm trains that drive everyone inside the temple are funny because it's like a tornado shelter... for sandworms.

Sandworm trains that drive everyone inside the temple where Uklesh and the Guardian are waiting right at the entrance are the best.

I always like training a ton of rhinos or other non-aggro social mobs, then watching someone attack them and laughing as 50 level 100 rhinos mob him and slaughter him. Sandworms are still the best though, nothing really competes with the joy that is rooting 10+ of them all around the exit.

I was in one of those, just the GoT though. Definitely a rock and a hard place! I never did like that temple but zoning in and seeing Aztur and all his little friends slaughtering nubs in the main hall was enough to make me just log out for the night.

Ahh ToTW, how I wish to never need to step inside you on any of my alts again. AO sorely needs a new RK newbie dungeon. At least the new Shadowlands playfield rocks! Every quest you complete gets you a level. My level 163 Shade is stuck on the escort part of that questline though, there's no time to heal up between the Spirit mob spawns and everyone knows how well non-TL7 Shades manage when running into a fight with three orange mobs with only half HP left. And I spent so long clearing the area of mobs :sigh:

If you're somewhat low level (50 or so) and want to make some money, I advise getting AORK and then heading to Newland Desert. There's a ring of dynacamps in the southern part that you can just run around and kill over and over. You should be able to find nice things both for you and to sell.

Once you're stronger, you can switch over to Varmint Woods, which has a similar ring, except the camps are higher level (ranging from 60 to 80).

Note that Varmint Woods will be annoying for Omni people to get to unless you have access to the fixer grid. Watch out for the random NT camps, as they're higher level than most of the others, aggro, and social. It sucks not paying attention and getting hit by a bunch of nukes.

Fortunately these camps are marked on the map, so you can avoid them without too much trouble.

I was bummed to find that even with low population those dynacamps are camped pretty hard. If you have a Yalm it's a bit easier but once the maps came out it became much more difficult to make a circuit. I did manage to get my beloved Redline grenade launcher though! I enjoy having a weapon that makes people go "What the hell are you using?"

Huh, so there was a patch with a new area released the other day, seems pretty fun so far. I got 3/4 of a level on my nanotechnician without much effort, then I managed to die stupidly when I ran between some turrets in there. The escort mission sucks though, the guy kept running off and attacking stuff and I couldn't get aggro off him :(

Seems like it might make the TL5 grind a bit less lovely, at least.

Every time I want to get back into this game I find it really difficult. The bad graphics I can handle, but the font gets rendered in a way that makes my eyes bleed. Is there any way to change that? Some kind of UI mod maybe that replaces it with something readable? Maybe it's just my system, or anti-aliasing or something, but I hate it.

You can change the font, size, and colors. No, I don't have the information handy. However, I believe the information is fairly available (or at least searchable) in the knowledge base sub-forum of the official forums.

Failing that, it's under GUI in the Settings option when you, you know, start up the client.

Edit: I'm starting to see why some games have those retardedly patronizing tutorials in the beginning.

Pretty sure its a setting called "Off Screen Edging" or something similar, under the Graphics options.

Man I've fallen back in love with AO again - been playing it off and on since 2005 in small spurts, but this time it's really got its hooks in. Once you get over the learning curve, it just really opens up into a really interesting and fun experience. I got high hopes that Funcom sticks to their promises and gives AO a new breath of life soon.

Keepers are fantastic and their heal auras are basically a win button at low levels. The only thing I don't like about them is that it takes forever to buff up and you never have enough nanopool if you start twinking to cast higher level buffs. You also get bio cocoon and other really good perks, so they become basically unkillable in PvM at high levels.
