If you google image search for TF2 Sentry there's tons of reference pics. I think I even found the orthographic concepts by the original artist, but they were very rough. I probably should've went in game to take a bunch of pictures but the labs I'm working in don't have the game.

Working on a generic pool environment for our water slide division. Still needs a few more props...and the privacy trees aren't really doing it for me. I guess they would probably all be pruned to the same height. Click here for the full 1200x533 image.

The landscaper in me says not to plant things in a straight row because when one dies it's very obvious.

Well, I actually used to do landscaping before attempting to model stuff, so I might be of some help to you on this. If I was doing trees like that, I would most definitely plant them in a line. but they would be a bit closer together OR a bit further apart then that. You either want pretty much a tree wall, or enough space to tell that they're separate trees. With that specific tree model that you're using it will look much better if you close the gaps between most of the trees a bit. Also, personally, I think that the tops on them are a bit too squared up. If they were trimmed like that, they would all be the same height. I think it's either same height and squared tops, or different heights and more of an overgrown look.

I've been working on a Brock samson sculpt in zbrush for the last week and a half. I have until Monday to finish the textures, modelling, and colors. Im also gonna set it up on a base and record a turn around. The whole thing is done in zbrush, the base models done with zspheres. I actually have alot more pics of the process. I was thinking of starting a thread to answer any questions and show all the steps but I wasn't sure if anyone would be interested. I have the pics up without photobucket compression on my blog also. http://suarezart.blogspot.com/

that is incredible work suraz but one thing i will say is you should usually leave and equal time for modeling and textureing That said I have no critique of thouse models if it wasnt comic book i'd say the forarms are a little overdone but considering the pose and the subjects its pretty much perfect!

Don't worry rushing to make it though, take your time, finish the project and then make one. I've always loved seeing steps people take to make a model or an image.

Thanks guys I'll definitely take my time to get my stuff ready for a nice thorough process thread. osoiman - Hell yeah! I found that comic when I was digging through the internet looking for Brock ref. They specifically mention not to make him ripped and just have him thick. but where's the fun in that? steve343 - You were definetely right about leaving equal time for texturing. I kinda had to rush through to make this something I can turn in. Atleast now I'll finish on my own time. My teacher mentioned I could just bronze the model and he'd be fine. So this was always my plan B if I didn't figure out how to paint him in time. Im still going to color him and render him into a scene though. The plaque reads: RIP # 18 1978 - 2002 So think of this as just a teaser for what'll come next. Also I'll have these and some more images higher res on my blog. http://suarezart.blogspot.com/ drat photobucket resizes them so tiny suarez fucked around with this message at 17:59 on Nov 16, 2009 |

EA seems to lay off their staff every Christmas. I understand that layoffs are a necessary evil at times but EA seems to schedule this stuff around this time specifically. Two years ago they let go of EA Chicago and I believe they did another studio or two last year too. ceebee you could probably build a low poly for that and bake out your procedurals to diffuse/spec when you bake your normals out.

Totally blows, they had some great games. I just they go out on a high note with Saboteaur. Mercs 2 was pretty awful. This really is a lovely time to be firing people. I have a bunch of friends at EA Burnaby and luckily they all dodged the layoffs for now.

To be honest, it's the way of these industries, games and VFX, usually after a big show or 2 end there's a nice exodus of people being "laid off", meaning their contracts end. I myself have my contract ending in December 18th, poo poo timing indeed.

I lose my job (along with most of layout), everybody else gets to chill out on the company's dime for a couple of weeks. Good times.

Ratmann posted:To be honest, it's the way of these industries, games and VFX, usually after a big show or 2 end there's a nice exodus of people being "laid off", meaning their contracts end. Pretty much, most of those studios shipped titles this year and were pre-production on future work. EA isn't hitting their numbers so cutting staff and closing studios on projects that don't have a lot of time and money invested makes sense on the stockholder side. Most of my friends in games usually put feelers out for work via contacts, as a project nears completion just in case EA buys out their studio or their game flops. This includes friends at AAA studios who had solid jobs for the last 10 years. I'm staff where I'm at, but all that means is I get laid off after the contractors if there's no work. My last 2 gigs were 5+ years each on some high profile stuff, but one or two times each year I toss out a few resumes and reels just to keep up to date on whos hiring for what, just in case. Some of my friends were in situations where they just showed up to work one day, and the doors were chain padded locked. Everything seemed business as normal, except they weren't paying rent... or tax remittance on payroll.. oh and the owners fled the country. Heck my first job was like that, it ended when the feds seized the studio and a few stores my boss owned. (He was a crook). Nothing like seeing an accountant run out the door with $50,000 in petty cash stuffed in a Mc Donalds bag, the secretary rolling out her pc in the parking lot, and myself getting stiffed $4,000 in pay. I don't work at core but I imagine most people wouldn't talk about it even with anonymnity. Studios aren't really that big and it wouldn't take long for most places to figure it out if they wanted to. My workplace is currently tighting up all their security stuff to comply with some sort of MPAA requirements or something along those lines. I'm pretty sure its related to that Wolverine leak which seems to have made all the film studios freak the gently caress out.
