I AM NOT BEING PAID TO CORRECT OTHER PEOPLE'S POSTS! DONKEY!!

This was an anti-apartheid song, which gives you an idea of how old it is. Google shows nothing for the lyrics (or what I recall of the lyrics).

chorus:

Some day, Pretoria / it will be a diff'rent story-a
A G , E C E D / C D E E G E D C C

in the streets of Johannesburg / we cannot walk
in the alleys of Soweto / we cannot talk
there is still a black / majority
always shackled / never free

but some day, Pretoria / it will etc.

If you write, I will make it better.

What the gently caress song is this bassline from? All I know is that the version I remember (it might have been a mix) just had people yelling HEYYYYYY, and some dude singing "EVERYBODY NOW". I thought it was a well known bassline but none of my friends know it! This poo poo is pissing me off, it seems like it should be so simple.

"I've got a penis. You got a vagina"

This is from a song from 1998 at the latest, I'd guess closer to 1996. My friend who I no longer have contact with had this on a CD and I remember thinking it was hilarious. After about ten years I've about given up on finding it.

My memory tells me that the band name was Sperm and the album name was Happy but the internet isn't backing me up on this at all, but it could just be because these are horrible words to try to google. Also there seems to be a Mexican band called Sperm and a Finnish band called The Sperm, and it's neither of those.

Anyone have any idea?

Truly, only the genius of these two (white) geniuses, Daft and Punk, could unravel the tiny, and probably accidental, gems hidden within the toss that is called "Soul" and "Funk" music... To take something so OLD and make BANGIN TUNES out of it, its truly genius.

The Breakwater, George Duke, and Edwin Birdsong songs were all pretty well known in the genre before Daft Punk used them. Besides, what does being a "classic" have to do with sampling? You're not really supposed to sample well known songs unless you're going do some crazy flip to it, which is not something Daft Punk seems to really do very well.

Yeeeears ago, between 1993 and 1997, most likely 95 or 96, I remember watching on Newsround (BBC News for ankle-biters) a news story about a very old woman (French? quite possibly the world's oldest person) who released a record or album that was doing very well on the contemporary charts.

Then I also think of some song from around the same time that featured a sampling of some young little poo poo^W^W^W baby babbling on, and I get the feeling it was the same song by the old lady, as though it were a poetic mix of the very young and the very old. I also remember seeing the album or single cover art featuring a photo of said baby, it may have been blueish, though I might be confusing it with Nirvana's Nevermind (but that was released years before).

I also think of The Cure as well, might they have been involved in music like this? (I don't have any of their stuff, but I remember they were mentioned on Blue Peter at the time or something).

When you have a Hammer, everything looks like a nail.
This has been bothering me since elementary school. They would play classical music at lunch and this was one of the songs that I loved, but I could never find it afterward. Anyways, I'll try to spell it out.

It starts out with a 1/16th note, legato piano arpeggio that keeps repeating:

D-E-F-A, D-E-F-A, etc.

Then the right hand comes in with:

F (dotted quarter tied to 1/16)
E (1/16)
D (1/8 tied to 1/16)
E (1/16)
F (1/8 tied to 1/16)
G (1/16)
A (half)
D (half)

which then repeats. It's syncopated, so it's kind of like a "daaa, ta-dum, ta-dum, ta-daaa, daaa" sort of sound. Unfortunately, that's all I really remember, but I'm pretty sure the next phrase modulates down to minor key and repeats that pattern. I hope that's enough information; I could try uploading some self-made sheet music if that would be easier to figure out. I've got no recording equipment though :(.

I keep hearing this song at work and it's really bugging me cause I never can catch any of the lyrics except the sorta chorus, it's kinda latiny pop, and the part I can remember is the dude singing, "lat da dat dat dat da, la da da dat da dat da dadada"
I'm pretty sure it was mainstream in the mid 90s

And just for the heck of it I'll try this one again, it's an up tempo song kinda like Bang on the Drums, starts with a group of people saying "Ahhh beep beep" several times, and there's a pretty long sax part in it, and I'm pretty sure that the ahhh beep beep part is a cappella at the end.

This isn't as much "identify a song" as "identify a band", God it's been driving me nuts all morning, I hope one of you can help me.

The band has (i think) two guys and a girl, I think one of the video clips had some sort of astronaut or the band playing on the moon, another video was the guys playing in some decadent industrial (?) basement/warehouse (?) and the girl looking nuts and tearing up her clothes.

Had some sort of alternative/indie look and sound.

If you've tried "chill-out" and that didn't work, "ambient"?

The only band I know that's even close are Boards of Canada, and I think plenty of people argue they aren't ambient. But you might like them anyway :shobon:
