Insurance talk= 160/year full coverage (country financial- 21/m under my parents plan. that saved me a bundle as well :)). They (insurance) payed everything from my accident except the $250 bill the fire department sent me for "standing by until the cops shooed us away." gently caress. At least I got a 200 dollar bonus from my boss for watching the shop while he was away. He said, "new pair of motorcycle pants," now I'm thinking, "bills :("

Swann gave me a good quote too, but it was $20-$30 more than QBE. A friend just had to make a claim with them and it was fairly painless so I'd still consider going through Swann anyway.

Haven't heard anything bad about QBE though and I like dealing with their phone people as they're really friendly.

I'm with QBE too, however there were two things which I was a bit dirty about when I got all of my paperwork through:

1. When getting the quote over the phone before buying the bike, they ask you how much you're buying the bike for. One imagines they work the quote out on this, so I was under the impression I was insuring for $x. When the paperwork comes through, it turns out you're only insured for market value. If you want agreed value, it costs more. They need to be up front about this IMO, because otherwise it's a bit misleading. In fact, when I got quotes I specifically said "so that's for $x insured plus up to $4k for gear?" and they were happy for me to believe that.
2. The person who quoted me listed the excesses that would be applicable, and no inexperience excess was mentioned. I double-checked that there was no such excess. When the paperwork came through, there was an inexperience excess applicable, apparently. When I rang to query this with them the dude gave a really loving flaky explanation along the lines of "sorry, yes I can see why you would be unhappy with that but things are very busy here sometimes and we forget to mention all of the details". Bullshit mate, I loving asked about it specifically.

Hopefully they're not fuckwits to deal with in any other way, though. The "do not under any circumstances admit fault or apologise" line in the contract was nice though. What a lovely world we live in when you can't apologise even if you KNOW it was your fault, in case your insurance company wants to weasel their way out of their obligation. I'm sure this is standard these days but it's a bit sad.

They asked me what I bought mine for too and didn't mention market value, but I would have assumed it was unless agreed value was actually mentioned. That struck me as a bit odd though, especially since market value is more than what I paid for the bike. I think they need to up the insurance training that their phone people do as they aren't as specific about this stuff as they should be.

That is really frustrating, I'll be sure to ask about that in detail and not take something flakey for an answer if I go through them.

First thing. Your bike is amazing. I'm incredibly jealous. How does it feel?

But I actually have a penchant for vintage Hondas. This is my absolute dream motorcycle. It was a rough time getting it. I ended up finding on CL near San Luis Obispo in a town called Cayucos. 26,000 miles, owned by a mechanic who overhauled the entire engine and did a full restoration to daily commuter. Oh. and it was $950.

I live in San Francisco but I absolutely had to have this bike. I was prepared to go down and grab it, roadtripped down a day early and decided to party in SLO before grabbing it the next morning. Ended up in a motel in Cayucos(15 minutes north of SLO) and decided to call the seller in the morning.

Woke up at 7AM and called the guy, turns out he sold it last night about 30 minutes after we got into Cayucos. And to make matters worse, our motel was across the street from his house and the seller had a spare room he was ready to let us use to stay the night.

Anyway, My friend and I were still a little hungover but we vowed to not go back to SF without a motorcycle. We ended up in the Cal Poly SLO library using their computers to search Craigslist. I find another 1982 CB750F in the exact same color for $1100 but in Laguna.

Drive down to Fullerton, meet up with a friend and we drive to Laguna, look over the bike and make sure it could make it up to SF. The previous owner was forced to sell it due to him almost getting into a bicycle accident. But the owner before him overhauled the bike's entire drivetrain and suspension/tires/etc. I even got a box full of spare parts and rebuild kits including an entire front brake setup(dual calipers too!), an entire clutch assembly, and all new wiring loom, alternator, and rectifier.

Drove it back to Fullerton and then rode it to Riverside to party and see some old friends. Rode up PCH all the way to San Francisco the next day. It was beautiful with the exception of running out of gas and having to buy 5 dollar a gallon gas.

Nothing's wrong. Nothing is wrong. Everything is on track.
Went out for what will most likely be my last ride of the season. I have to say, my Speed Triple behaves totally opposite than my Buell did. The Buell was quick, but everything about the bike, in retrospect, felt lazy. Lazy throttle response, lazy power delivery, lazy shifter, but this is completely different. It revs like the 4-cylinder bikes do, it has amazing pull from right down low, and the rev's drop very quickly as well, so you really have to pay attention. I'm basically re-learning throttle control, because even small bumps can cause me to jab the throttle a little. The suspension is hard as poo poo too, though it may be set up stiffly from the prior owner, something to look at in the spring. Here's an action shot for you my wife took.

Thanks :).

I did indeed end up with an absolutely great deal on this. They were seriously blowing stuff out at a couple shops. There weren't many 08s left in my area but I found a shop willing to deal. The CBR outclasses every bike I've been on by so much it's not even funny. I came to this off a Buell 1125R and couldn't be happier. The thing that shocks me the most is the CBR is actually more comfortable than the Buell even though the pegs are a bit higher/rearset. The thing is so freakin compact that there's not much of a reach to the bars at all, which keeps your back pretty straight and takes strain off your wrists. The seat is shaped better and has a better feel than the buell's as well. I also like the shape of the tank. Its design lets you really clamp down with your legs during hard braking. Speaking of which...

The brakes are loving PHENOMENAL. I bedded them in yesterday and holy poo poo -- I've had to completely retrain myself on what's needed to haul the bike down. Two fingers are almost too much...

I haven't really had a chance to give it the beans yet but from what I've experienced the engine is a goddamn monster with a Jekyll & Hyde personality... Fueling is excellent everywhere. It's perfectly happy puttering around at low rpms, something the Buell never really could do. It'd spit sputter and clatter if you dropped much below 3k for any reason, and wasn't much happier coming out of it. The CBR just purrs along and is perfectly content, and chugs right out of it if you don't feel like kicking it down a couple gears.

The CBR wakes right the gently caress up at 5k or so, and the 5-10k range is massively strong (my highly ineffective butt dyno tells me it's quicker than the Buell's top end... and you haven't even hit the main part of the powerband yet!!!) I've not really broken into the top end of the CBR yet... but I did wrap it up through 10k or so through first and second. Jesus. loving. Christ.

Handling is much better too. It's much, much more eager to turn in than the 1125. I didn't realize how much effort the buell really took until I started playing around with the cbr. Even with this eagerness to turn in, it's amazingly stable mid-corner. My tire budget is going to go through the roof next year... track days will add up quick!

Sorry for going on and on, I'm just that loving ecstatic about this bike and my recent trade!

Oh, for content I present to you the new Honda CBR1000RR-TOURING MODEL!

Yes, the bags are going to stay on the bike most of the time :colbert:. The more poo poo I can throw on the bike the more reason I have to ride it for normal everyday tasks!

They've got heat sheilding on the bottom of the bag but there really isn't much on the side of them. If you have the stock exhaust I wouldn't think it'd be a problem but an aftermarket can might get a bit too toasty. The material the bags are made of is fairly thick though. Does your tailsection get hot to the touch? I've never actually ridden something with an underseat exhaust so I don't have much to go by :(.
