Last night, at a family gathering, my Father in-law went on his normally scheduled whine-fest about Obama's plot to destroy America and strip him of his wealth for the benefit of "lazy blacks". I normally just let him run, but when he specifically began quoting poo poo I had seen in bogus chain emails, I decided to call him out on it. My words were "Wait a minute, did you by chance see that in one of those chain emails? You know those are total bullshit right?". He replied "I took you off my list didn't I? Don't worry about it, I deleted you from my e-mail list! I said "Thank you for taking me off your list, but I'm just saying your whole argument is nonsense and you're completely discrediting yourself by quoting those. Half those emails are written by liberals just to see how much they can gently caress with you [probably not true, but strategically this might work with him]." He actually got out of his seat, stormed out of the room with his last words being "WELL YOU'RE JUST A LIBERAL SOCIALIST!" edit: For some added info, I've never personally discussed my own political views with him. The very fact I was calling him out on bullshit was enough to label me a "Liberal Socialist!" tek79 fucked around with this message at 17:04 on Dec 18, 2009 |

I got this from my dad...there's a picture included of a gravestone that says: "United States of America Born July 4, 1776 Died Nov 4, 2008 Suicide" --- Professor Joseph Olson of Hamline University School of Law, St. Paul, Minnesota, points out some interesting facts concerning the last Presidential election: * Number of States won by: * Democrats: 19 * Republicans: 29 * Square miles of land won by: * Democrats: 80,000 * Republicans: 2,427,000 o Population of counties won by: o Democrats: 127 million o Republicans: 143 million o Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by: o Democrats: 13.2 o Republicans: 2.1 Professor Olson adds: "In aggregate, the map of the territory Republicans won, was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens of the country. Democrat territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in government-owned tenements and living off various forms of government welfare..." Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the "complacency and apathy" phase of Professor Tyler's definition of democracy, with some forty percent of the nation's population already having reached the "governmental dependency" phase. If Congress grants amnesty and citizenship to twenty million criminal invaders called illegals and they vote, then we can say goodbye to the USA in fewer than five years. If you are in favor of this, then by all means, delete this message. If you are not, then pass this along to help everyone realize just how much is at stake, knowing that apathy is the greatest danger to our freedom. --- Basically what I get from this is that the Republicans won more land area than the Democrats, so clearly they should have won. However, they didn't, so we're all becoming dependent on welfare. If we let the illegals vote, America will be gone in five years. Impeccable logic.

The guy who is attributed as the author did NOT write this. http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/results/president/ You should point out that the "facts" in the email aren't even right, he can count states at the link above, the Democrats actually won more states this time. Not only is the thing basically made up out of whole cloth, but it was actually made up out of whole cloth in 2000 and then recycled in 2004 and 2008 without even changing the "facts" to reflect 2008 reality, and then a fake stamp of authenticity was attached to it by attaching a professor's name to it who had nothing to do with it. This is so easily debunked just on the "number of states" alone (it seems to come from 2004) that you should strongly consider replying all with the snopes link and just pointing out one or two of the obvious mistakes (fake attribution, number of states). The snopes link on this one (above) is definitely taking a quick minute to read. It's bad enough that people send these lies around, but it's beyond insulting for them to be easily debunked in 2 seconds flat, and that they hide behind some professor and university who have nothing to do with it, that's despicable. Oh, and, land doesn't vote.

Luckyellow posted:Here's an forward I just got from my dad. Without verifying that any of the numbers are accurate (which I doubt), one can still refute this argument with reason. The simple answer is that 40-50 million people are excluded from our system. This includes mostly the poor, which often happen to be the most sick. This drives up the outcome numbers because the people receiving healthcare are often wealthier and in better health. Also, insurance companies will only pay for treatment that has a fairly high likelihood of working. People who receive late diagnoses of diseases like cancer often have a much lower incidence of treatment effectiveness, which allows insurance companies to deny them treatment for this very reason (also the reason why it insurance companies are reluctant to cover screenings and preventative treatment in some cases, since late diagnoses of advanced disease can allow them to refuse treatment altogether). Meanwhile, countries with universal healthcare try to treat everyone, even patients that don't have much hope for treatment. As a result, outcomes go down. quote:Percentage of seniors needing hip replacement who received it within six months: Seniors in the US receive their own exclusive health program, whereas other countries have a shared pool of resources for all citizens. quote:Percentage referred to a medical specialist who see one within one month: quote:Number of MRI scanners (a prime diagnostic tool) per million people: The putative source for these statistics is IBD, which claimed Stephen Hawking would have died under the NHS, so I don't have much faith in their fact-checking. Just had this CRAZY exchange with my Uncle Albert. Ol' Uncle Al's kinda a loon, as you can probably tell just by reading this We're talking about the latest concession to anti-choicer Ben Nelson on the Senate health bill. Me: Nope, both the right and the left hate it that means it's centrist and that means it's good. Uncle Al: On the issue of abortion, that's pretty much the case. Me: How do you figure? Uncle Al: Abortion is not a policy issue. It's not like anyone will oppose this because it's good or bad in some "good for the country" measurement, it's solely an issue of "does this favor the pro-choice or pro-life agenda more". If both sides are somewhat unhappy, it's probably a decent compromise, because neither side like compromises.

See the new Web site at http://www.blackbeltpatriotism... ...[A]s we near the eve of another Christmas, I wonder: What would have happened if Mother Mary had been covered by Obamacare? What if that young, poor and uninsured teenage woman had been provided the federal funds (via Obamacare) and facilities (via Planned Parenthood, etc.) to avoid the ridicule, ostracizing, persecution and possible stoning because of her out-of-wedlock pregnancy? Imagine all the great souls who could have been erased from history and the influence of mankind if their parents had been as progressive as Washington's wise men and women! Will Obamacare morph into Herodcare for the unborn?" Yes, liberals will not be happy until abortions are MANDATORY. There's no choice for the women involved, plus, with abortion being completely covered by the government, how could she not take up the offer? Free abortion? How could she say no? Also, the evil people in this hypothetical are clearly those who provide the covered medical procedure, NOT the people who ridicule/persecute/possibly stone/etc. That's just to be expected! I have a business contact who is warning me that California will be declaring bankruptcy on Feb. 28th. In preparation for the inevitable riots they are asking the UN for peacekeeping troops from Mongolia and Canada. This would be the start of nation wide martial law, they're starting with CA because the gun laws make it the easiest state to control. He won't email me because he's worried about his email address being used to track him, but he's perfectly happy to spend 45 minutes on the phone ranting about how he wants to cap and trade obama.
