Your comparing apples to oranges and i dont know how you dont see that. Look motorsport shouldn't be a side show whore for corporations and thats all I'm saying. Sure you need sponsors and money to run it, but I cant help feel that this sport was created completely and entirely for the single purpose of selling energy drinks etc. Preoptopus fucked around with this message at 22:13 on Jan 2, 2010 |

I bet you've never even heard of the latter. Why is that? Good marketing. Ken might have a chance at driving at a couple stages of the WRC next year. That's incredible exposure for the WRC to the US audience, considering that he could have never made it there from a skill standpoint alone. It's not just Block's driving that got rally put on TV. It's the whole package through which they reach the audience -- the crazy youtube videos, the stunts, the massive marketing and sponsorship money, and finally just enough results to back it all up.

Its no longer man and machine vs mother nature, its home depot vs monster energy. I have to agree. The image of American rallying is the usual XXXTREEEEEM SPORTS angle, which might appeal to the younger demographic, but is a turn off for a heading-toward-40 guy like me. But I can tolerate it if they would present the sport as racing rather than a stunt show. I can deal with the massive ad exposure, but crap like that Ken Block acid trip-style video is likely just some buddy of Ken Block jerking off all over the footage. It's hard to take it seriously. Travis Pastrana's jump was pretty cool, but aside from doing it in a rally car, I don't see how it really exposed any body to rally. Sure, a bunch of people googled his name before and after the event, but how many will it draw into the sport? Manny: I grabbed Dirt 2 earlier this week and it's definitely a fun game, but again, XXXXTREEEEEEME! It doesn't have to be Rallisport Challenge to be an awesome rally game, but it definitely could've been toned down a little bit. Also, this thread is just making me die to get into rallycross. I've been wanting to do it forever, but just have never really had the time or resources. But I think I'll have both of those just in time for my alleged mid-life crisis, so here's to hoping!

Preoptopus posted:Your comparing apples to oranges and i dont know how you dont see that. Yea man I totally agree. When did race cars become rolling billboards? I wish we could go back to the Group C days when cars weren't just huge rolling ads for companies, like this: I mean really some of the most notable race cars in the world never had marketing on them, it's like one day a few years ago I woke up and there were just these huge MONSTER ENERGY stickers and poo poo. What drivers use monster energy drinks. I don't know man I never ever saw Ferrari putting on sponsorships that have nothing to do with motorsports: Then you go back to the Group B days when the cars were cars and men were men and did you see these huge corporate sponsorships from companies whose products didn't involve cars? No! In conclusion are you loving retarded, Preoptopus? Do you ever look at racing history before raging against the giant conspiracy machine thats ruining your racing for you? Events have been giant marketing tools forever, this isn't anything new. Special stages like that have existed for a long time in rally and in rally cross too. It's appeal is not sitting outside for several hours to see a car pound by for 5 seconds. Are the cars not racing? Are they not driving the same course? Does the faster driver not win? Are they not applying techniques required to drive as fast as possible through dirt? Complaining its watered down is like saying WRC sucks because it's not a pure rally like Paris-Dakar; it's inside a stadium, who gives a gently caress? I mean, gently caress, they don't even need co-drivers. Ari Vatanen didn't use one on his world record pikes peak climb so I guess that isn't real rally either. Have you looked at a real WRC round lately at all these random sponsotrs who have nothing to do with the sport? X-Games is simply put a US bent on Euro rallycross mixed in with a super special. What the gently caress is wrong with that? Nothing, that's what. It's what's been happening for 40 years so why the hell are you so bent by this point and giggle? Frankly it is exactly the exposure the sport needs to grow and it has grown as a result and I love it. These guys are prepared to tip cash in, then also go to the WRC as well next year. In other words, Pastrana and Block love the sport more than you do, get out on weekends to real rally events and understand the sport more than you do. And if Block wants to backflip a rally car, then gently caress it, I'm first in line to watch that poo poo. All the insane poo poo they have been doing in rally cars has risen the profile of the sport quite nicely and I'm all for it.

he only had 150ft from the bottom of the ramp, was going 92, was on gravel tires, and the ramp was wet. plus you see the skid marks started quite a bit after the bottom. It takes the average sports car about 120 feet to stop from 60 on dry pavement.

Considering only about a half dozen of the 50 made actually got raced, it, unfortunately, accurately describes the owner's group. They're all museum pieces in some collectors closet who's hoping to make millions in 20 years while forgetting that race cars that have no VIN, and therefore no chance of ever being road legal, are only valuable if they have a racing pedigree.
