VVV  I've been told that before, and THOUGHT I was bringing it to the front. And then I watched a few videos, desperately trying to see what the person was doing and  , they don't just jam the needle in a diff way, the yarn is moved. Like, from back to front when going from knit to purl.  I'm so happy to have you guys, thanks. I'd do a yarn swap but: I buy super cheap yarn no one wants It's not organized I use a tiny bit here and there for other projects so I rarely have a whole skein sitting around anyway Now that I'm thinking about it, though, I want a scarf made of crab yarn. Why does it have to be SOCK yarn? LAME.

On a random note, I was working on a project in class today and a random girl asks "Are you knitting? Would you make something for me?" When I said I would if she paid me she replied scornfully "I'll pay for the thread!"

I'm knitting a blanket in the round. I thought if I only did knit stitches it would be stockinette stitch. But it's clearly garter stitch. How did I do that? Not that I'm against it, I'm happy there's no curling. Also, I made a hole by doing a yarn-over without meaning to. Anyway to fix it without frogging? I didn't notice it until I was 3 rows from it, and I really don't want to frog that much.

How did you do that? If you're knitting all stitches in the round, there is no way you could end up with garter stitch (unless you did a moebius cast-on, which you wouldn't do for a blanket). I'm really curious about what you did!

The only way to make garter in the round is to alternate knit and purl rows...it's such a pain in the rear end (even more so than doing the exact same thing for stockinette while knitting flat, for some reason. Well, to me it is). I'm afraid there really isn't a way to fix a yarn over like that. If you don't mind the extra stitch you could try dropping that stitch down to where the yarnover is and reknitting it while twisting it - knit through the back loop or whatever you have to do - that way the hole won't be as noticable. But if you just got rid of it there'd be all this extra yarn that you knit those stitches with on subsequient rows.

Here's a problem maybe one of you knitting gurus can figure out--I'm looking to buy a unisex fair-isle sweater knitting kit (pattern + yarn) I found online, and am trying to find the size that will fit me when it's done. The sizes listed on the site are: Petite/Small - Underarm 100cm, Length 66cm Medium - Underarm 113cm, Length 70cm Large - Underarm 124cm, Length 72cm Extra Large - Underarm 133cm, Length 74cm The problem--when I measured my underarm size, it was exactly 100cm, but I am definitely not a petite/small--I'm a 6'2" man, and I can't imagine a petite/small woman with a 100cm underarm measurement unless she had a pornstar-sized chest. Something is wrong here--either I'm measuring myself wrong or not understanding how the sizes work. Is it maybe a European size thing? I normally wear (American) large or extra-large men's clothing, depending on what it is. What size do you all think I should buy? I mailed the site that was selling the kit three days ago and still haven't received a response.

After a year or so of knitting I have only just discovered I'm doing it 'wrong'. I thought I was knitting 'western style' and so followed patterns to the letter, but it turns out it's more like combined knitting (I think?). When I knit a stitch the yarn is at the back of the fabric, in my right hand and goes into the back of the loop. Purling, the yarn is in the front and goes into the front of the loop. I wrap the yarn anticlockwise each time. I blame my mother. This has been mostly ok, but I am having HUGE issues with my decreases. The way I'm knitting a ssk and a k2tog produce the same stitch, rather than the right/left slants they should. I finished my first sock, and the foot is twisted because I only noticed this at the end. I'm doing a knit-slip (and a slip-knit) on sock #2, and it's kinda working but the stitches are looking a little sloppy. Is there a better way of doing it? Also these socks are a tad too small - a size 5 rather than a 6 perhaps. For my next pair would I be better adding an extra 2-4 stitches to the CO or going up a needle size from 2.75mm to 3.25mm? Still on silver's sock class if it makes any difference.
