Can anyone recommend to me some French music? I am not sure what "genre" it would fall under; but I enjoy the stuff that automatically makes you think Paris when you hear it. Think lots of accordion, stuff like in the Amelič soundtrack! Anyone have any ideas?

Chickensandwich, you could try A Place to Bury Strangers, it was mentioned two pages back. In my opinion, they're one of the more interesting new shoegaze bands, although they mix it with really industrial, noisy rock.

I've recently listened to excerpts of works of Philip Glass and would like to get more into this artist. Problem is, his discography is massive, spanning from his ensemble to solo works to symphonies and more. I have no idea where to start. What would you consider good entry points/must-haves/milestones from Glass?

Alright so lately I have been getting into more post-rock sounding stuff like Yndi Halda, Pelican, stuff like that. I have no idea where to start with this genre, I know about all the big names like EiTS, Mono, Godspeed You, stuff like that. But I was wondering how I should start to delve deeper into this genre and find new stuff?

I'm feeling blown away by Mary Ann Hobbs' Wild Angels compilation - in particular Brackles - LHC, Untold - Discipline, Hudson Mohawke - Spotted [Neve Mix] and Legion of Two - And Now We Wait. I'm really into Bibio, edIT, Hudson Mohawke and Flying Lotus right now and come from a background of being crazy into Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada and Venetian Snares and I want to know where to go. Take Wild Angels as a start point - I really love the music and when I look it up on last.fm or Youtube it's all "bro, dubstep", but I feel like 90% of dubstep is all wobbly-bassed Eastern Jam knock-offs. I'm clearly illiterate in the genre but don't really want to take the time to wade through crap, or the minor EPs of the people on Wild Angels, to get to what I want. I'm pretty much trying to narrow a large spectrum of things I need to taste into a couple of quality, interesting artists/albums to pursue. Even another compilation recommendation would be welcome - I'm really enjoying some Fabric and FabricLive stuff right now as well. Cheers, NMD.

So the last few months I've become a huge fan of Tegan and Sara and recently I've especially been getting into their first two albums; Under Feet Like Ours and This Business of Art. I'm not great with music genres but it's kind of indie rock/folk or something? Well I'm looking for other artists that sound similiar. So far I have come up with Ani Difranco which is pretty close. I tried looking at last.fm but I think most of the similar artists are based on their later stuff, which I also love but it's not what I'm looking for right now. Any advice?

Xen Cuts, or The Art of Zen Relaxation series are great. I think Jaga Jazzist, 9 Lazy 9, or perhaps Cinematic Orchestra might be what you're looking for, but they aren't as overtly jazzy as 1954. If you want to branch out a bit more in the genre try Blockhead's album "Music By The Cavelight". I started listening to the Pogues a couple days ago, and now theyre easily one of my favorite bands. I've got Rum Sodomy & the Lash and If I Should Fall From Grace With God, and while theyre both fantastic I think I prefer RS&L better because Shane's singing seems clearer and stronger, even if Grace is a bit more experimental. I'm looking for similar artists. Not necessarily Irish folk music, but music with a similar punk attitude combined with that same sorta sense of... history? that Shane conveys. The Clash sorta fit in this.

I've been getting into Dillinger Escape Plan lately, the screaming vocals turn me off a little, but that's why I absolutely adore Black Bubblegum and Milk Lizard. Any other bands that you could recommend that sound like those songs? It would be great if there were some more Dillinger songs like that (although if I don't like screaming vocals I might not be apart of Dillinger's target audience).
