redscare posted:Why do you even bother posting there Because when I first joined, 5 years ago, it was a pretty awesome local resource. There's still good deals on bikes on there sometimes too. Besides that, I think it's some sort of misplaced nostalgia that keeps me on there. Racer's forum is pretty decent too, if you're keeping up with the local racing scene. And there are some really, really good people on there. People who give a lot to the community, a mobile bike towing service where you can just post up if your bike broke down and someone will come help you for free/beer, stuff like that. There's some worthwhile in there, it's just got a layer of poo poo that sometimes obscures it.

They'd actually ban you for baiting and trolling there? That forum's a shithole, and it seems like most forums outside of SA don't ban for anything less than Mod poo poo-talk or posting goatse or something.

It takes a bit to get banned, you really have to try, but they're quick to suspend over "personal attacks, trolling, and baiting". They have a democratic process where the mods vote, and blah blah blah, so it's great because it takes about 8 hours after someone does something stupid for suspensions to get handed out. So there's plenty of time for drama, talking poo poo, etc. I'll probably skate because I'm a fag who knows the mods and has been on there a long time, so I can get away with poo poo. I honestly wish they'd just suspend me though, I was obviously baiting them. I love how SA handles it's modding, and it's part of the reason that I have a shitload of posts here.

The worst thing about motorbike forums is how people who have great opinions about bikes and are full of helpful knowledge turn into complete shitholes with the most obnoxious and repulsive beliefs in the general banter sections.

I guess every forum user has some need for discussing whatever. I have SA and other small ones to cover those areas, when visiting a special interest forum I stay away from anything that isn't about the special interest. 5+ years of SA has made me into a forum snob.

You guys are missing out by avoiding the general chat sections on automotive/motorcycle forums. True story, I've been banned by almost every single big Mustang site on the net. I just can't stop trolling and I blame SA for that. My favorite one was getting banned from corral.net for posting an in depth description of how to go about convincing a woman to allow you to perform anal sex on her and how to make it a pleasant experience for her once you got permission; it was titled "The Method". To this day you will be sternly warned/banned if you even mention The Method in their general chat section and this incident happened 7 or 8 years ago.

The thing that makes me laugh the most about the stunt scene is that a fair number of the guys are people who just like pulling wheelies and loving around in the parking lots. If they could just push out the "rawr rebel!" fuckheads and image, if they'd just realize that the general public doesn't really appreciate what they do, then we'd all like them a lot more. Plus it's so loving easy to mess with thin skinned knuckle draggers anyways, they just invite it on themselves.

Street riding has lost most of its fun to me. loving around doing illegal poo poo is still cool, but I'd honestly rather take my car than worry about someone making a left in front of me during my commute. Maybe I just can't hang, but I think where it's at for me are long days in the dirt. Not worrying about other motorists is really liberating. I'd probably feel differently if I didn't live in such a flat place but who knows. Maybe I'm just feeling like this because of the rear end in a top hat who almost killed me yesterday though.

Every time I think about giving up street riding, shortly afterwards I have an experience that uniquely defines motorcycling for me...like freezing my rear end off, and rolling over a hill to find a warm pocket as the sea spreads out in front of me. Or bringing an old bike back to life. But...if you're not enjoying it, why do it? Riding's dangerous, and if you hit that point where you're just not having fun, then what's the point? Risk management...have the most fun for the least risk. If that means giving up the street, sometimes that's just how it goes.

I went to the DC Motorcycle Show today, and left after about an hour and a half. Other than the jerky stand, there wasn't a whole lot there I couldn't see at a dealership. Some notes though: The VFR1200F doesn't feel as heavy as the numbers would suggest, although it was unfueled, of course. It's funny seeing Harley guys look at the V-Rod and comment on its crazy moon technology like water cooling and overhead cams. I liked the riding position of the XR1200. I kept coming back to the Triumph booth and really want a Bonneville or Scrambler. Every supersport I sat on reminded me why I don't want one. If I ever get anything more offroad oriented, it may well be a TW200. They're just so cute! The Ducati booth babes all needed to eat more. The Hypermotard feels stupidly heavy compared to my DRZ. I got a free Suzuki keychain. Every cruiser I sat on reminded me why I don't want one. I rather liked the VFR800, but I don't know why Honda had one in their area. KLRs are tall. The only people I saw sporting brand merchandise (ignoring hats) were Harley and Ducati guys.

The thing about street riding is that its the one place you can go ride RIGHT NOW. Track days take a shitload of prep, and generally are not occurring at 10PM on a Wednesday, if thats when you feel like riding. Offroad requires less prep, but still generally requires travel, unless you actually live in the woods. Thats why i stick with the street. I'd ride offroad more, but all the public trails are 5 hours away
