Z3n posted:Then why do you care what anyone else thinks? Are they going to change the way you feel about it? Are they going to devalue your involvement in it? For me, the answer to those questions is no, so...who cares how much fun people make? Who cares what old bitter curmudgeons or random people on the internet think? I know you're trying to play captain keepin' it real here, but you're just so off base it isn't funny. Yes, this closed-minded and immature mentality you guys share does devalue my involvement. It isn't specific to the SomethingAwful forums, it's shared by a large portion of the motorcycle community, which hurts our room for expansion and growth. I feel we're cast in a rather unfair spotlight so I try to speak up and hopefully make some positive impact. Anyways, with that said, here are some recent videos I like to watch: http://www.vimeo.com/6922721 http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x67ts1_stunt-new-training-jorian-636-full_sport http://www.vimeo.com/8561170

Stunters at least don't hurt anyone else, Critical Mass does more financial damage than all the stunters in CA combined every month.

There are definitely strong parallels between the stunter world and the skateboarding world. The style just seems similar - even the clothing.

Well, to be fair anytime someone bashes on stunting, inolen, you do come outta the woodwork and get all butthurt about it. But eh it's the internet a lot of people do that about various things, you're passionate about it, which is a very good thing. Other than that, it's basically if you don't do it, you don't understand it. I mean how many "crews" can I watch doing highchairs and circle wheelies before I get bored? But that's just me, again if you're in the sport you see the technical aspect of it. For example, in the Jersey Shore thread they were talking about Pauly D and his DJ'ing and how it was all textbook mixes then some guy comes in and goes "YEAH WELL HIS poo poo IS ALL WEAK AND STUFF AND CHECK OUT THIS VID OF THE BEST DJ EVER" and I watched that vid and was going because it loving sucked. But I guess the guy was making up his own beats or something like that. Anyhow, it's just like this, the technical aspect is lost on those of us not in the sport. I've been wow'ed a few times by Stuntas, ok not a few times, but Jason Britton made me go "holy poo poo" because he was that good and broke out of the box of circle wheelies, stoppies, and high chairs. But that's just me, it does take skill and I don't take away from that, it's just not my thing. Content...

I wish I got this in before the whole huge stunting argument, but my favorite part of that bmw video had to have been them unloading it out of the truck. It made me happy to see all of them all as sketched out as I am every time I roll a motorcycle out of a truck bed. Him riding it back in however, was way to easy looking.

The more poo poo you put in these things the faster we reach that event horizon in the future where you crash land on an alien planet in the past where nazis somehow won WWII, and you try to build your time machine, but there's too many steps involved in recreating the technology, so you end up having to bleach your hair and raise a sub aryan brood in Italian Sumatra, because, sure you can get the part where you use an old style chemical battery as a capacitor, but you have no idea how to ... look, the point is, gently caress computers. They lead to flappy paddle gearboxes, which lead to kissing men. I'd totally watch this movie btw.

I feel we're cast in a rather unfair spotlight so I try to speak up and hopefully make some positive impact. The netbook I'm on chokes pretty hard on flash, so it's hard to watch the videos, I'll check them out tomorrow. But honestly: Don't you think the "unfair light" has less to do with people talking poo poo on the internet and a lot more to do with the fact that stunters are still widely seen as those jackasses pulling standups on the freeway or blocking traffic? In my experience, either people don't care what you do in parking lots or enjoy it. There's no censure of stunters for being stunters, it's because stunting as a whole has never done anything to shed that image of being a bunch of immature hardasses who do nothing but gently caress around on the street. And stunters doing minor poo poo like forum invasions, or major poo poo posting videos of them doing standups (and crashing!) on the bay bridge doesn't really do you guys any favors. Where's the outcry against those guys? In drat near a thousand posts on BARF, at no time did ANY stunter come in a say "Hey, it was loving irresponsible to do that poo poo". Neither did anyone on stuntride in another 150 or so posts there. Do you see the problem here? When I went in and suggested that maybe people should choose their spots more carefully, because if he'd been hurt seriously he could have died on the bridge before medical could have gotten to him, I was called a cop and a human being. We spend a lot of time talking about safety, about responsible riding, about tracks, about training and gear. The reason stunters are seen as a group of irresponsible jerks is because there's no visible effort in the community to encourage more responsible behavior. If you want to see change in the views of the community, change the image of stunters. Be prepared to be real unpopular for it too. The people you should really be pissed at are the people in YOUR community that are loving it up for you. To provide some real content for this though: Click here for the full 1280x857 image. It's the same way that, no matter how much I might like a harley, I'm not going to just jump in and become part of that culture for fear it will make me retarded like catching AIDS from a gay toilet seat makes you gay. Bikes at the boat show: Click here for the full 800x634 image. Click here for the full 800x574 image. Fun Motors of Longview, for all your Italian two-wheeler needs. Is it wrong of me to want to stuff the 95hp 750cc twin from picture 1 into the scooter in picture 2? Edit: If it's not wrong, which would be better, pink or orange? On the one hand, the girlypink one would be more ironic, but on the other hand, safety orange would be good because a 95-horsepower Vespa would be a danger to everyone in sight.
